Because he doesn't sound like a proper gorilla in the actual series of games he appears in? Same with Bowser, I'd love for him to punctuate his attacks with his voice from the Mario & Luigi series (stuff like shouting SHOWTIME when he lands a flying slam, the same line he uses when starting a battle in Mario & Luigi 3).

Well it's already noon time April 1st there. And if it means anything, osu! is a game developed in Japan and they had an April Fools joke.
TBH it's likely they'll just feature the banana peel in the screenshot or something because comedy instead of having a fake character reveal/some elaborate ruse. We're not gonna get something special just for April Fools. Even near Christmas we just got a stage reveal (Rainbow Road 3DS).
Hopefully it's just something really cool and not at all a ruse.
The update is something everyone unanimously agrees was a good addition and the joke is they're not keeping it. April Fools indeed.
