Play as Toon Link
I'm playing GW, I don't wanna change character
I think I need to learn to dodge + roll effectively, currently I just UP+B the fuck outta there if there is pressure
learn how to wavedash
learn how to wavedash
you can't really wavedash in brawl
also wavedashing in casual play is for dicks

Yeah that's your problem right there.
Rolling is one of the most important things to do in Brawl.
I hate wavedashing, I can never get comfortable with it, it's fun to mess around with but I really can't see myself ever using it confidently in a combat scenario
It's so good tho you can do crazy stuff with it

Especially if you play Luigi

We're playing project M, so wavedashing is an option, I did roll in brawl and I think due to the different timing involved in rolling with Project M I stopped using it
I'll try and learn it again

i'm a luigi and i approve of this
I'm capable of doing a wavedash semi-reliably, but I just don't understand when or why you would use one? What advantage does it give you over your opponent?

I can wavedash 60-80% percent of the time in melee and project m but i'm not very good at actually using it to my advantage
I only ever do a dash landing when I feel like I need xtra style points

lots of reasons
you can wavedash out of a shield to get a grab or to position yourself better, you can wavedash off the stage to ledgehog, you can wavedash backwards to distance yourself without turning, or you can just wavedash just to simply avoid attacks or approach quicker
I haven't even bothered looking up what wavedashing is.
Amateur 4 life
I know what wavedashing is but I don't know how to perform it nor want to. :v:
I learned how to wavedash years ago but I never learned how to use it practically. I only started to get used to wavelanding on platforms and learn how to dash off of it. It makes me slightly more comfortable with platforms since they seem to hate me a lot.
I hope they still have ice climbers, they're one of my favorite smash bros characters
I barely use wavedashing as is, but finally learning how to L-cancel is a huge boost.

So close, I can already taste it.

This and snaking in Mariokart DS. Screw that noise. These weird gameplay exploits that become a necessity among competitive play always annoy me, it's like fucking K-Style in GunZ

I didn't know drake of the 99 dragons had multiplayer
Just be be sure, L-canceling is when you dodge in the air and you move to a side right? Or is that wavedashing?
Just be be sure, L-canceling is when you dodge in the air and you move to a side right? Or is that wavedashing?
L-cancelling is Lag cancelling.
When you use an attack in midair but land during its active frames, there's a lengthy recovery animation. Tapping a shoulder button as you hit the ground will make that animation go much faster. The original name of it in the N64 version was "Smooth landing" but L-cancelling stuck as the defacto terminology instead.
and wavedashing is when you jump and then immediately air dodge into the ground at an angle, so you to slide across the ground from the air dodge momentum
Green Link is doing it normally, Red is L Cancelling

i learned that before brawl came out, but i didn't know it applied to every midair attack. i thought it was just a Link thing
I did, too. I kind of accidentally stumbled upon it while I was playin with some buds. Haven't tried it with any other character, though.
