i don't really get l-cancelling
like, is there any reason NOT to l-cancel? it feels like an arbitrary way to put in an advanced technique. at least with wavedashing there are times to and not to wavedash, but l-cancelling seems like just clicking another button when you land every time you attack in the air. what if you had to hit the a button when your smash attack connected for it to do max damage? it goes against what i thought the smash design ethic. just cut ending lag in half or something across the board.

The thing I don't like about it is that it's an arbitrary skill ceiling. Why not just make all the animations play at double speed? There is no circumstance where L-Cancelling isn't a better option than not L-Cancelling, and there's no way you could learn to do that through general play or teach yourself how to do it without some kind of external influence. There's no good reason for it to exist.

The weird thing about that is that L-Cancelling is a programmed feature and wavedashing is a side-effect of another mechanic.
Ugh is it Tuesday yet
At least we'll get an update tonight
I guess it makes sense if you wanna whip out ur shield faster. Which I'm sure that's what they intended when they designed it.

Literally just said "Woah" aloud at the detail, Sure it might just be clever texture work, but...jiminy.

I'm not really sure but I think most competitive games have small things the player can do to give them an advantage over time, like creep denying in mobas
If you should always be l-cancelling, then it comes down to your ability to l-cancel and how it effects the game depending on how consistently you can do it

Ya know, you're right. I think putting an input for L canceling just gives someone that may practice more (but isn't necessarily a smart player) a pointless advantage over someone thats a smarter player, but doesn't practice as much. But I admit it was satisfying to be able to L cancel consistently.
-snip- you know what screw the whole thing because this rumor is reeking more and more of bullcrap, disregard this post and move on.

An insatiable, unidentified extraterrestrial? Kirby confirmed.
Skree skree, motherfucker.
And I got a spark of Ridley hype with this, to be honest...
Dumb jokes aside, I think everyone agrees Ridley has shittons of potential to be fun. Grabbing people and scraping them across the ground, turning into Meta Ridley and shitting bombs, missiles and mines everywhere...
I still don't see his appeal, personally.
Not gameplay-wise, and not even as a character in-series. He's boring. Oh sure, he's supposedly got a role and personality in the comic, but in the games proper he can be satisfactorily summed up with the words "space dragon." He shows up in a Space Pirate section, fights you in a boss battle while shrieking unintelligibly, you kick his ass, and you don't hear from him again until the next game, with nary ever an explanation more than he's apparently a Space Pirate commander and killed your parents. And as a Smash character I don't see him being any more than "cyborg Charizard."
The biggest roles he's ever had in the Metroid games are the infamous Other M scene and the one time you actually fight him twice in Corruption, presumably to make up for the fact that he didn't appear or even get mentioned at all in Echoes; shows how important he is. And even then only the second fight in that game actually has any relevance story-wise; the first time - despite being a cool fight in terms of gameplay - is just him showing up to screw with you while you're dealing with something else as far as the story is concerned. Oh yeah, and he's the one who personally ran off with the baby at the beginning of Super Metroid; a scene that could have been changed to just depict a generic mook running off with it instead and lose nothing.
I want Giygas as a boss.

The same can be said for G&W, WFT and R.O.B. Hell, if we are going purely by the games none of the Pokemon have any character. Ridley has probably been in more games than half the roster, the Metroid series deserves another rep and he is the most iconic character from the series other than Samus.
We'll probably get a narrower release date tomorrow, as well as (finally) some information on the interplay between platforms and the whole customizability of characters. Not to mention at least one new roster reveal.
Can't wait!

As a huge fan of the Mother series, no. It loses the emotional impact outside the context of the first two games (and that emotional impact is hugely important to that part of the game)
unless you mean his Mother 1 iteration, that could work.

Sakurai considers 3DS and Wii U, Smash Bros 4 and 5 by the way. It may explain "Smash Bros 6"
Considering Namco and Capcom are involved I wouldn't put a late 2015 ULTRA Super Smash Bros Wii U out of the question.
[editline]7th April 2014[/editline]
also it might be melee hd omg I wish
Well at least we know Smash 4 isn't being released in 2015
I'm gonna cry if there isn't a release date announced tomorrow
I'm gonna say it's either in july or august. All the good games seem to come out just before school starts back up so kids can't binge on them during the major hype
Speaking of tomorrow, I wanted to say something. If the Direct somehow leaks before it airs, would everybody kindly add spoiler tags and link images as necessary? I for one want to be able to follow the thread as things are announced and don't want everything given away before I can see it with my own eyes. I know this happened with Rosalina, which is why I'm bringing it up.
