They're both essentially dragons, but I think Ridley has a different enough appearance to merit a very unique and bad ass moveset, not to mention Ridley has different abilities.

I like the idea of ridley getting in more because I'd like to see another metroid rep AND more playable villain charaters, ridley fills both of those roles also I don't think ridley and charizard are really the same gameplay-wise, ridley would probably be a lot lighter and faster while charizard is a pretty heavy character in brawl

Ridley's pretty anemic as far as "character" goes, I'm not sure there's much to describe of his personality beyond "Space Pirate". Plus, he'd look really silly scaled down to Bowser size, what with his doofy stick-thin neck.

I hope Ridley is an assist trophy that just stands in front of the camera, making everyone unable to see.

I want Ridley in game only because I think Metroid needs more representation. We have two technical characters for the game, and that's only because Samus and ZSS are two different appearing characters. Ridley would give a welcome addition to the roster, if done right

no way other m needs more representation adam for smash. when fighting samus he has the ability to make her unable to attack without his permission

Who gives a shit about his character or his size when he obviously has so much potential to be a rad, fun character? I thought that's what Smash was all about; fun movesets. I don't need to know the width, breadth and depth of Marth's struggles to be able to enjoy hitting people with the tip of his sword, and I don't need Ridley to explain his deep connection to Samus Aran over the history of the Metroid franchise for me to want to scrape people along the ground with his talons and shit out explosives everywhere as a half-mechanical half-cloned abomination.
