Yeah, I´d love Wonder Red to join the roster, but he is just too new as of right now.
Wonder Red's game isn't even 3 years old. The last youngest games to be represented in Smash were Pikmin in Brawl and Wii Fit in 4, which both were around a console generation old when they were revealed. I do think he could be fun to play, but I'd say he's more likely for the next Smash, and I'd prefer to keep the new-game advertising angle restricted to Fire Emblem and Pokemon (and even then I'd prefer for the newcomer FE/Pokemon characters to not be whoever they need to advertise to sell games, but them's the breaks). I also think this applies to Bayonetta, since she doesn't have any history on Nintendo consoles.
Roy wasn't even in a game before being in Melee, so the fact Wonder Red's game is only 3 years old doesn't mean much IMO.
And Pit was in Brawl a generation before the game featuring that version of Pit
Fire Emblem has already been established as being an exception and I'd rather it not be. Pit's redesign was reused in Uprising, but he was added as a retro rep. Not particularly good counter arguments.

Where did 3 years old come from?
And Pokemon has also been established as being an exception; both series, FE and Pokemon, feature changing casts with each game, so they compensate by keeping a recognizable face (Pikachu and Marth) and a new character. I wasn't sure of W101's age, so I just went with less then 3 years; Wii Fit and Pikmin were at least 6, so being not even half that is a pretty strong case for it not being included.
It's not a 'how long ago was it released' issue. If there's a new game coming out that will have a character getting into Smash for it, they'll prepare in advance. If a W101 character was planned for Smash 4 at any point, they'd already be in or are being worked on. There's not really a 'standard' of when they're to be in Smash based on release. After all, Lucas was intended to be in Melee to promote Mother 3, but they didn't want to tie him down with a moveset when the game wasn't even complete yet and kept going through development hell. (For the record, Melee came out in 2001, Mother 3 came out in 2006.)
Who do you all think will be the oddball choice for this game anyway? Jigglypuff in 1 (If we consider him/her to be it) Mr. Game + Watch in melee R.O.B. in Brawl

Is there an official title for the upcoming game? Wikipedia lists it as "Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U" as does the logo, surely that isn't the final name? Is it just being published as Super Smash Bros?

The pun doesn't work in Japanese, guys. It's just a happy coincidence for English fans and English fans alone. As for the unexpected character, what all 3 "WTF" choices have in common is that they represent Nintendo's hardware/strategy in some way. Game and Watch was the result of Gunpei Yokoi's "New uses for old technology" (not exact quote but it's close enough) thinking, where Nintendo used cheap technology in a new way to innovate; in this case, LCD screens from calculators. R.O.B represented Nintendo's Trojan Horse for breaking into the Western games market during the video game crash. Wii Fit Trainer represents the Blue Ocean strategy; Wii Fit was less of a game in the traditional sense and relied on this to make sales; people who might not care about running and jumping or shooting people can enjoy things like Nintendogs and Wii fit. So for Smash 4? I'm guessing something to do with Hanafuda cards and other pre-video game designs such as the various toys made like the Ultra Hand (LOVE HOTEL STAGE PLS) since Nintendo has long had the strategy of adapting to the times. That, or Sheriff, the pre-Donkey Kong arcade game by Miyamoto that didn't catch on. (Assuming Wii Fit Trainer doesn't already fill the spot already)
It's a pun name Super smash bros (4) 3DS etc Sakurai loves pun names. See Kirby Triple Deluxe (Kirby 3D) etc
But Sakurai said he considers them four and five. Unless we're going for 4chan copypasta logic where it's super smash bros-ing 5ever.
it doesn't have an official name yet, "super smash bros. for wii u and 3DS" is basically a placeholder.
Everyone calls it Smash Bros 4, but as of right now that is the official name.
I still like the 'D' idea.
You know what the freaky thing about that one thing saying people need to look harder into details on the Direct is? Most of the characters, content and other factors are probably already fully implemented in the game. If there's a Namco rep, they're likely there. If there's more new challengers or returning Snake, or even just old veterans, they're hidden away and being refined or tweaked but otherwise just waiting for either the direct/reveal respective to them, or the game's release. I mean, the game's still a work-in-progress, especially the Wii U version, but it comes down to what we figure out and what's revealed this late in the 3DS version's development if both games have the same rosters.
hey guys does anyone else think they might not show all characters before release like they did with brawl? they like showed only half of the roster before that come out
it doesn't have an official name yet, "super smash bros. for wii u and 3DS" is basically a placeholder.
They aren't going to change it man, it's just what they're called this time. I'm glad they stopped doing the "synonyms for fight" thing before it got too cheesy personally.
I still like the 'D' idea.
For the last time, nobody is giving you that D!
it doesn't have an official name yet, "super smash bros. for wii u and 3DS" is basically a placeholder.
No. I'm 100% sure that Sakurai or Iwata said that it's the official and final name. You know, people should slowly begin to realize that the "for" is pronounced like the number four.

But before the game, you can outfit yourself with certain items that can help power you up early, which will give you a big advantage later on!! These items are much like the Powers you'd find in Kid Icarus: Uprising.
I keep hoping for iron tarkus to be an assist trophy even though I know it wont happen, I am so stupid optimistic.
Man, I know it's kind of a Sakurai thing by now, but he really loves bringing back ideas and concepts from his own games to improve/add on to others, eh? :v:

When he has a good idea he uses the shit out of it.

well maybe akira toriyama should call sakurai and say "hey, add goku"
well maybe akira toriyama should call sakurai and say "hey, add goku"
next nintendo direct: roster size changed from ~30-40 to 200+. the remaining characters are DBZ characters. game renamed to smash bros goku. snake confirmed for being an assist trophy, ridley's assets removed from the game entirely and replaced with (unplayable) mewtwo. you wished for it, it happened.

He also likes some consistent design or something; Air Ride, Brawl, Uprising and now SSB4 all have really similar menus.
