No but seriously, the boots are really cool; it's not apart of Metroid canon but considering all the crazy technology in the universe it isn't unlikely. The fact they gave her so much more mobility and attack power by giving her such things? That's really amazing.

Had they deviated from that, I assume they'd get shit from the higher ups for not adhering to continuity. While I do agree with you on them being boots, they at least took a shitty design and made it better.

Just different to how it's appeared before. Probably just SSB4's emphasis on high visual cues to make her stand out a bit more.

Instead they decided to wipe out three of the best games in the franchise from the canon to make room for Other M and continue to push that design.

I'm still trying to stick to the idea that the executives asked the Smash team to use the latest design of Samus, that being Other M. They're at least not changing the moves and how they function in order to fit this, but they're still taking from a shittier design. ZSS is only a continuation of that, as her SSB4 design is based off of that version, which included built in high heels. The Smash team only took the idea of heels and made them into something useful. I hate defending this point because it seems like I'm turning down your idea of how shitty the design is, but I just don't want the Smash team to get hate they don't deserve.

Agreed, Nintendo should not have endorsed Sakamoto (or whatever the name of Samus's George Lucas is)'s design; the only reason I can see why they would is that they wanted her "current" and/or most modern design, which was Other M's. Expect a crashes a few times when you choose the stage builder to boot up though. No way to avoid those.
