He is a character with an original move set, so I doubt he is going anywhere. Plus, I am hoping for a Gyromite stage this time around.
Snake has an original moveset and he's most likely gone.
Because he's a third party character who has plenty of hoops to jump through when it comes to licensing. His returning has nothing to do with his moveset and everything to do with his third party status. ROB is owned by Nintendo, he fits the same niche that G&W did who returned for Brawl. There's no reason for him not to return.

But there was that article last year where Sakurai apologized in advance for cut characters.
Oh, thought the story behind Snake was Kojima going and saying "Hey, can snake be in the next SSB?" then Sakurai going "K"
What does that have to do with anything? They still had to do licensing agreements for everything Metal Gear related that appeared in Brawl. That's Konami's intellectual property, there's paperwork that has to be done. Just because Kojima asked for him to be in doesn't mean there isn't any paperwork.
I don't know, I can't shake the feeling we won't be seeing him again. Not gonna lie, I hope they keep Falco and Wolf, I know they're clones, but they're clones that are better than who they copy. Or add Slippy and everything will be alright.
It'll be a sad day when characters like Toon Link are higher priority then the likes of ROB and Ike.
I'm annoyed that Toon Link is back honestly. We haven't really seen much of him so maybe they're actually giving him a unique moveset. But if he's just a clone of Link again, that's going to be really stupid. Honestly I feel like they revealed/added Toon Link just to help promote WWHD
ToonLink was basically an upgraded version of Link. He was smaller, faster, more floaty and less heavy, and had a better recovery.

I mean, those three are mascots, icons. They've all got interesting designs and games that explore their personalities and abilities. Pac Man's just a smiley face with mittons. Literally his only interesting attribute is that he chomps things. He's just a boring, boring character. I'm not saying that he's not iconic; he is. He is THE arcade character. But I can't see him fitting in the Smash roster. If he does make it in, the only way I can see it ending well is if they give him a total makeover. New design, new personality, new everything. Do for Pac Man what Subspace Emissary did for characters like ROB and Mr. Game & Watch.
I saw that Link himself has some new moves, including a forward jump slash and a backflip for his rolling dodge. It's very well possible that Toon Link's moveset will be tweaked as well

Toon Link's Final Smash better be the the Ballad of Gales or the HURRICANE SPIN.

Give Toon Link the Deku Leaf, Skull hammer, and the grappling hook, and we'll be in business
Toon Link's Final Smash better be the the Ballad of Gales or the HURRICANE SPIN.
this could work, have a full magic meter appear in the upper left corner of the screen, and then have Toon Link do the hurricane spin horizontally, but moving vertically through the air, bouncing off the edges of the screen like a screensaver icon on MDMA. you could loosely control his direction, and the magic meter depletes slowly to show how long until it's done
Speaking of which, I would love to hear the Codecs for new oddball characters like Villager or WFT.
If Snake did return, i'm sure they'd poke a joke at Mega Man's METAL BLADE
I kinda like how they crossed the two "talk taunts" when you get a Codec call from Slippy while fighting Falco. Makes me hope that Mac also has something from Doc and that they continue crossing them further. That said, I'd just love to see Uprising-style commentary from all the characters throughout a match. Have their little portraits show up on the GamePad and everything.
I think Toon Link as a clone is at the very least one hell of a lot better than Young Link. He may be a clone, but he's got a completely different visual design, different animations, and widely different playstyle. I feel being unique fighter as a clone character he's above Falco and Lucas, on par with Wolf, but below Luigi. If they replaced some of his special attacks and his final smash with some original moves from Wind Waker, he'd be just as unique as Luigi. Despite Wolf feeling more unique than Falco, I still really hate how similar he looks to Fox, and I still hate that we have 2 clones based on the same character. Because of this I'm really hoping Wolf will have been cut for Smash 4, but that Falco will be updated with more unique moves. Lucas I never really liked. Even if he was the protag in one of the games, he still just looks and feels like Ness with blonde hair and different stats. I sorta wish they'd have picked a more visually distinct character from that game series.
I agree with the post that came with those pictures that it's odd that they need to 'justify' ZSS being strong. Like, fuck, it's like if they went "how do we justify ness being able to float when he jumps, I KNOW WE GIVE HIM A HELMET THAT INCREASES THE POWER OF HIS PSI ABILITIES". Just let ZSS kick really hard right off the bat.
If you played Zero Mission you'd know that Samus is at an extreme disadvantage without her suit. She may be strong and acrobatic but it's reasonable for there to be some justification for her to be as strong as she is even without her suit on.

Olimar is now Kirby's size instead of an inch tall. Peach is somehow fighting for herself despite how easily she gets kidnapped. Would anyone be annoyed if Samus wasn't given the jetboots but was buffed anyways? edit: They don't feel the need to justify loads of things in Smash, and no-one questions them because of it. So the fact that Samus without her suit needing jetboots to 'justify' her not being shit is just bizarre. Why is it so unbelievable that she can be a strong fighter without the suit?

Sakurai and his hand waving. Can't get enough of it.
i don't know maybe they put jet boots in because jet boots are cool and you get to have rocket kicks
i don't know maybe they put jet boots in because jet boots are cool and you get to have rocket kicks
That's the only justification it needs.
