True, I don't know where people are coming from when they expect such things to still get into SSB4. The thing is, at least from my experience, people who are around the same skill level as you and who use those techniques don't have a huge advantage because it's still mostly the basics. One of my other friends who also plays as Fox doesn't use any of those techniques yet still rivals the other person's Fox that I mentioned. Both are tough fights for me but I don't notice that much of a difference. Of course I have no clue what it would be like for the more hardcore players.
I'll admit that I'm quite the opposite to you, I love it when games have low skill floors and high skill ceilings. Melee is an oddball because it has two different floors, without using those techniques and with using them. The techniques just open up more possibilities for high skilled players. The high levels of SSB has a lot to do with strategy already though, you can see players doing moves and counter-moves in a match.
I get where you're coming from though, a lot of the techniques are unintuitive at first glance. It could be just me but most of the advanced techniques make sense once you think about them. Say something like Falco's short-hop laser. Short-hopping is a simple mechanic that most players know, as is doing a fast fall, also you can use the laser mid-air. So if you put all three together you get a way to use the laser while being able to move around slightly. It's not spelt out to the player but all of the elements are there in the open to be put together. I feel like these sorts of combinations are just an inherent part of SSB's design, a few different mechanics mesh together to allow new techniques to come from it.
The thing is that you can define "floors" however the fuck you want depending on how people are choosing to play, two guys could just decided jumping isn't allowed one day and build a game around that. if something exists, it could show up at any time.
I like the firebar sword but I wonder why anyone would use it. Four strikes that get increasingly harder to hit with seem like a pretty junk deal.

It's less 'man this sucks, i'll never use it' and more 'shit, a firebar just dropped, better grab it and hit someone before they do it first.'

I highly doubt they would add an item that's just a gimmick beam sword. Its probably gonna be buffed in power or something.

it's on fire, so it'll also do damage over time because fire damage

Roy's Neutral B and Up B
All of Charizard's moveset except Neutral B
[editline]21st April 2014[/editline]
Mario's Side Smash and Neutral B
I rarely use weapons in Smash, I'm more likely to throw them at enemies
Tossing a weapon from a long range and getting a hit is so satisfying.

Oh yeah, I checked items too and I can't see anything that does fire dots
whoooooops I fucked up
I really hate that the most valid use for the Home Run Bat was to throw it. Honestly I think throwing most of the swinging weapons should have a much smaller effect when you throw them.

The Fire bar looks like a sex toy.
From here on out I shall call it "Flaming Anal Beads"
From what I could pick up in the Direct, the Fire Bar will be good at cornering and stunlocking your enemy since it doesn't send them flying, similar to how the Fan does.
Plus, you could use it 3-4 times and throw it to cause knockback or even a KO. It seems it'll deal quite a bit of damage.
The only item I don't want to have my face kiss is the Ore Club. Looks like it might deal loads of damage if it's thrown.

One time I knocked my brother off the stage and then threw a fan at him and it connected.
God damn.
The fan has amazing knockback when thrown

Perhaps that's it; in place of the fan that can stun lock pretty much indefinitely, a fire bar that does better damage, also has stun locking potential but only for 3-4 hits.
Though this is a bit of wild speculation on my part.

only upwards though, would be more useful if it was a spike trajectory
After playing many moba's, I can assure you that people will be matched up with people outside of their league way after the initial release. No matchmaking in any game is flawless, and mismatches are extremely common.
Yeah, match making isn't the most exact system in any game. It's really hard to say what will happen with the online in SSB4. I think that there would be a bigger number of people who don't do all of the advanced stuff even in for glory. I'd imagine that most of the more competitive players would just play with friends rather than online with 1-3 other people. And yes, it is true that there will still be matches between people who do or do not use advance techniques but I can't think that is too much of a problem as a whole, right?

That's what the Pitfall is for

Pic of the day. Here's a special stage exclusive to the 3DS version, Balloon Fight!! The stage loops on the left and right sides so you can walk off one side and appear on the other.

Looks like the flippers change form round to round. Other then that, another update where he goes over info from the direct. Yay. Prepare for weeks worth of obvious things you already knew about Smash, guys!

Or maybe they disappear and reappear after some time

So does that mean you can only kill people by knocking them straight up?
So does that mean you can only kill people by knocking them straight up?
in the water, too.

Knocking them into the water will probably kill them too.
I wish Sakurai would use different characters in the Pic of the Day. It always seems like it's Mario, Link, and Villager. There are a ton of other characters that could be used in a pic, even if all they're doing is standing there.

Great now we're going to get another week of "Pic of the Day: It's Rosalina, I wonder what's in her dress." posts.

Probably Alfonzo.
Or a golden ticket to Rippy Ridley's Chocolate Factory.
Possible character menu, take it with a grain of salt:

On one hand, there's no bullshittedly stupid characters fit on there and Japanese names are used. It does look like the style could be possibly legit. On the other, something about it seems too.. Clean, but then this game seems to be 'cleaner' aesthetically than Brawl anyway.

I don't think they would reveal every single newcomer apart from one, especially when E3 hasn't even rolled around yet. :v:
Although would Luma really be called 'Child' in the Japanese version? :v:
muh automerge
