I'm happy that some alt costumes are new models too. Also "The Fonz" version of the villager with the 6 shirt is the best obviously.

I don't think every character should have an alt skin just for the sake of it. Cases where a character is famous for more than one costume are the only ones that should apply. Genderbent WFT/Villager is a given, those characters have male/female variations in their games, and the wireframe challenger has appeared in as many Punch-Out games as Little Mac himself. The only other cases I can see happening are Dr. Mario (and even that's unlikely,) and as much as I'd like to see a focus on Wario Land, expect Biker/Overalls Wario to return. Don't expect it to be like Project M where there are as many as possible of ranging obscurity.

Yeah, most people request alt costumes that are from super obscure things, when they're clearly meant to be recognizable things for each character.

This could open up lots of things. Mario having a Dr. Mario skin. Peach with a Daisy-ish skin (or even one of her many sport outfits) Link in Casual clothes. Zelda with Skyward sword inspired. The best would be a Mr. L skin for the Green Mean Mustache Machine. Might not happen but would be nice! Even as DLC.

I swear to god if Peach's alternate costume is Rosaliana :v: Though in reality I think we'll be getting more costumes/outfits but something tells me it won't be for everyone, just who it makes sense with. Link for example probably won't have one as his outfit now and all his previous adult outfits are all a little close to each other and colored tunics would work and Zelda will probably keep her TP design only as every other Zelda outside the best one* is a total wimp. *Tetra. Tetra is the best zelda.

It would be cool if Marth got a Lucina alt skin.

The female and male WFT will both have different voices and chances are so will the Villagers so I don't see how that is an issue at all. I haven't played Marth's Fire Emblem game in years so I can't remember how he fights in that. In Awakening, him and Lucina share the exact same battle animations and are the same class. It wouldn't be much of a stretch for them to just share the same moveset, his fighting style in Smash Bros is pretty far removed from how he fights in his own game anyway. [/sp][/QUOTE] just give marth a single palette with a mask and darker colors ala peach's daisy palette in melee as a nod. when you play as Marth but it's actually "Marth" it kind of detracts from the point of smash bros. each character is so clearly defined that just slapping on a different character onto the same moveset cheapens the entire game. hell, clones are unpopular enough as they are. sakurai felt that wario deserved better then being a mario clone and waited until brawl to add him in. if he felt that way about a character who was literally "Mario but he's a bad guy" then i seriously doubt he's gonna start making different characters as costumes. people are getting way too excited over costumes. they're not going to add Strikers Mario or Sunshine Shirt Mario or Mario As He Appeared In An Obscure 80's Atari Commercial. Even Dr. Mario is pushing it. It's likely that the majority of the cast will not get costumes. If a character has an alternate appearance that is recognizable on nearly the same level as the default, then they'll probably have a chance at costume. Otherwise, nothing.

Even in the first game where Wario appeared, he was functionally different to the point of being almost unrecognizable. Mario is nimble and agile while Wario is blunt and crass. Wario's first playable appearance reinforced that through not only gameplay, but through the game's soundtrack as well.

There's a difference between "evil counterpart" and "evil copy". Wario's physical profile exaggerates Mario's original base design concept, short and fat, while Waluigi takes the same concept with tall and lanky. Wario could never be a clone because his body type at its core is too different. Evil copy is Shadow Mario. Fuck, Shadow Mario was a way cooler villain than Bowser Junior.
