Even assuming the later pictures were real, why would the CSS have suddenly unlocked Ridley and whoever else if the pictures were taken within a few minutes of each other?

It's just a simple lock symbol with the smash bros lines in it. Anyone can recreate it in a couple of minutes.

Definitely similar but not the same, the lock bar is thinner. And like CowThing said, it's a very simple icon, very easily recreated. Considering the amount of original content on the two "leaked" images, I doubt that anyone who was trying to fake a screen would go that far and then decide to just google a lock icon and potentially give away all their hard work that easily.
