1 Mii, but you can choose what fighting style you want out of 3.
What if dark pit is just the alternative skin for pit?
I still would fine it cool if DP was his own character.

Bare in mind that the development doesn't have a limited number of character slots, only resources. Whether they are one character or three makes no real difference to the resources put into them.
And I'd wager, given how generic their movesets are, that they weren't all that resource intensive.

While I'm skeptic on Dark Pit being a full-on character, there is potential that Pit could use a different voice bank, facial expressions, or taunts when using the Dark Pit pallete. As there's a very clear difference in tone and personality between the two.
Considering that we have both a male and female Wii Fit Trainer, at least 4 variants of the Villager, and Challenger Little Mac, it sounds incredibly plausible to me.

I'm in love.
looking at the website, you can customize how the miis look, you can have a lightsaber or a normal broadsword, gunners can have the big chunky arm cannon, a slim looking one, or a wild west six shooter.
Looks like we'll be able to do that higher wage = higher difficulty thing that was in KI:U too. That's pretty fucking sweet. Plus the $100 game/adapter/controller bundle has got me hyped.
