I think it's more the fact that the creator of metal gear hast flat out said he's no knowledge of snake being in
Kojima said he wasn't in it? Well that confirms he's in it then. With MGS3 on 3DS, they've actually got a valid reason to include Snake.
Also if the hint at the end of Pac-man suggested 2 characters from 1982 are to be revealed then these are the potential additions who made their debut in 1982:
- Dig Dug (Nintendo said they were exploring old games for characters. He's Namco)
- DK JR
- Ms Pac-Man (Probably will just feature as an alt costume)
- Q*Bert
The most likely though?

I hope this song is in the game
There was a lot of good music in Pac-Man World

little mac is ripped (click for full muscle)
Mac gets all da bitches. Just like Link
they could have added so many more interesting characters than pac man
pac man is waaay better than palutena, i'm glad we got him in the roster
Is Wario not going to be in it?
Is Wario not going to be in it?
I think Waluigi's AT is represented under a Wario symbol and not Mario, so I'm pretty sure he's safe.
So i don't know if this was brought up before but why not show Pac man at the end of the smash bros tournament?
What's with the hate towards Pac-Man?
If Snake (who at the time had ONE MGS on a Nintendo console) can make it in to unanimous approval, what's with the hate towards Pac-Man?
I'm still holding out for a certain witch.

pac man as a character is not interesting because he has no personality and is just another "ball character" with legs and arms
he's boring to look at and is just not appealing at all in my opinion
people only hate pac man because they thought that stupid tv show/mixed media franchise would be pacman's inspiration for smash

I remember when people were screaming bloody murder when Wii-Fit Trainer and Villager got in:
"Waaah, not a character, where's Ridley"
Not many characters in Smash are known for their personality, either

I would say the same to G&W.
His initial concept is has simple as a ball with arms and legs. He's just a cartoon silhouette with a big nose.
But both characters have amazing movesets.
G&W is fun to play so I'm pretty sure Pac-Man will be just as fun.

By the times I still played Smash (friend had Nintendo and I played only at his place, he moved away years ago.) I never understood the thing in G&W.
Why is he so "fun"? What are his strengths etc?

I'd say he falls into the 'trickster' archetype; you have no idea what's going to pull out his ass next.
That, and some of his moves hit WAY harder than they should.

I faintly remember the bug-spray-wanking move now, I called it bullshit right off the bat.
Pacman's design being the original/Pacman World design is amazing.
The Pac is legitimately back.
Only problem and it's not really a problem so much as a thing is that due to his utter lack of moves beyond "turns into classic pacman and eats people" his moveset seems to be completely disconnected from anything to do with his character, making him an arcade tribute character. He'll be fun to play but he's the character with the most stretching to find a moveset.
"his character"
god damn i have never heard people talk about "character" as much as when people talk about pac man
seriously go back through the thread, take a shot every time someone mentions pac man and mentions his 'lack of character'
this isn't aimed at anyone in particular mind you, i just really want to point out this phenomenon.
I like to think the reasoning behind characters getting in is due to being influential in some way.
Characters like G&W, Pacman, Little mac, Wii fit trainer, villager and megaman are all characters who people know from just looking at them. Of course it's not like how it is for characters like mario and sonic. I would say link, but people still call him zelda so there you go.
also I'm pretty sure in one of the pacman games, he punched shit.

When Dark Pit appeared behind Palutena I thought it was going to be Bayo since Kid Icarus is all about Angels etc and they announced the whole Bayo 1 coming with Bayo 2.
Namco is helping with the game and Pac Man is a widely recognized video game icon, and he's starred in many-a-nintendo games.
Personality or not, he's here, and it's perfectly peachy. (Especially since he's not running that new design that everyone dislikes.)
I gotta say, at first I thought Miis and Pacman were a terrible idea, but I think it's slowly growing on me. The presentation of the Mii fighters at the beginning of Nintendo's conference really made them look nice and fun to play. Then they chose the best design for Pacman, and made him look entertaining in his video. I mean, even if I still didn't like it, I can't really do much to stop it except not play them :v:

Still sad Snake will never return.
Has this been confirmed?
since when do character's need good personalities to fit well in a fighting game??
since when does a character in an arcade game about eating pellets and killing ghosts/a series of 3D platformers need a good fucking personality either?

brawl snake players right now
Oh stop it you meanie. :-(
Snake was my favorite character to use in Brawl, I fucking loved his move set. I'm still hoping beyond hope he'll be in and we can all stare at his buttcheeks once more.
From the moves Pac man used I would argue it's a tribute to Namco as a whole, rolled up in an iconic character. I hope during the Treehouse we'll hear more about him.
