It basically blocks off the part of the arena where it's summoned with annoying but low-damage projectiles.
Then it blows up and any foe nearby is probably KOed as a result, but if you're facing anyone who knows that, then they'll probably just stay clear of it entirely if possible. It's too easy to avoid unless it's a small and cramped stage.
