There's a very simple reason why: The game's not done yet. Seriously, if anyone can make DLC and complete it before the game's even finished, they might as well just put it in the game in the first place. DLC is best used as add-on content once a game is already out because the developers wanted to keep working on it after release day. Don't expect any confirmation of having DLC until the game's actually finished.
I see this quote in the previous article as one of the obstacles with the possibillity of DLC though
"The reality of the situation unfortunately is that there are certain limitations on the 3DS," Sakurai said. The 3DS and Wii U versions of the next Smash Bros will have the same library of characters.
They can't add to many characters, because they want the 3ds and Wii u version to have an equal amount of characters. The 3ds version can end up limiting the wii u version because of this
I understand that, but I could have sworn I read somewhere that they did not want to add characters by DLC even after the game comes out.
We discussed this earlier. Restricting playable character content by making it DLC is like shooting themselves in the foot. If anything, it'll be additional stages, costumes/colors, sound effects (such as a different announcer), or even items. Full-fledged characters is just going to cause massive backlash. This is a fighting game, making characters restricted by a paywall is only going to segregate the community.

Because I know the 3ds has it.
I'd love to have Link be like he was in Melee. Not the slow, heavy Link from Brawl. Also, a Majora's Mask Link would be nice. I always imagined him has a PKMN Trainer like fighter, where Down-B would cycle through all his masks. Deku being a light type, Zora and Link medium types and Goron a heavy type, obviously Deity being his Final Smash. Would make him be very different from this current TP/SS Link. Would make more then just a variant. Has for the tripping, we might still have the banana peel but that's fine by me. It was meant to be used like so. The random tripping was unnecessary if you had an item which could replicate the same effect at 100%. What if... What if they give players an option to enable worn-out equipment, like they tried to do in Brawl (in the files, there was textures of Link's shield and Meta Knight's Mask with visible worn-out and broken bits). Maybe the way Megaman was all looking all beat-up in the trailer is a hint to the scrapped cosmetic effect.
Just make Toon Link into normal Link and he'll be great. [editline]13th June 2013[/editline] http://kotaku.com/the-next-smash-bros-will-balance-casual-and-hardcore-513211771 YEEEEEEEEEEEEES
I have good news: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BS520SG
imma bookmark this shit show useful ever since i transferred my brawl data to my wii u, it's been really awkward to try out the other control schemes gc controller master race
Due to Nintendo's rules, only Pyro and Demoman would be viable for Smash Bros
Wasn't Pyro already in Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed though?
dunno if this has been posted. http://kotaku.com/no-more-tripping-in-the-new-smash-bros-513187770 Yeah, yeah, I now Kotaku
Thank god, now I won't have to fear my fighter will trip on stage (Thanks to Brawl, I've always feared I'd trip in a stage like race to the finish on Melee)
I'll still be calling it Wii Smash U
I'll be calling it Super Smash Bros 4.
More likely than you might think and as for Peach...
Next thing you'll know, Wario will get the same treatment eventually [t]http://www.mariowiki.com/images/8/80/UglyShokora.png[/t]

I really want Snake to return, just so we could possible have Groznyj Grad as a Stage from MGS3
I feel alone when I say I play better with the Wiimote + Nunchuck than any other controller combination...how many other people prefer it?
I'm expecting this roster: (I copied a list from somewhere) 1. Diddy Kong (from Donkey Kong Country), 3. King Dedede (from Kirby), 6. Meta Knight (from Kirby), 7. Pikmin 8. Pit (from Kid Icarus), 10. R.O.B. (Robotic Operating Buddy — from Gyromite & Stack-Up), 13. Wario, 15. Bowser (from Mario), 16. Captain Falcon (from F-Zero), 17. Donkey Kong, 18. Falco Lombardi (from Star Fox), 19. Fox McCloud (from Star Fox), 21. Ice Climbers, 22. Jigglypuff (from Pokemon), 23. Kirby, 24. Link (from The Legend of Zelda), 25. Luigi (from Mario), 26. Mario, 27. Marth (from Fire Emblem), 28. Mr. Game & Watch (from classic Game & Watch games), 29. Ness (from EarthBound), 30. Pikachu (from Pokemon), 31. Princess Peach (from Mario), 32. Princess Zelda (and her Sheik transformation after using the down special move), 33. Samus Aran (and her Zero Suit Samus transformation after using Final Smash — from Metroid), 35. Yoshi (from Mario). + new additions Lucario will be replaced by Alter. Mewtwo (cross-promotion) Ganondorf will be replaced by Demise (SS baddie) (maybe? Depends on the Zelda U baddie) Bolded = 50/50. We know that the original SSB64 roster is permanent, so those are in 100%. I think ROB and Mr. G&W are pretty stable because they're the WTF characters of M and B which I don't think would be removed by Sakurai.
7. Pikmin
Oh thank god, I've always wanted to play as an individual Pikmin.
I feel alone when I say I play better with the Wiimote + Nunchuck than any other controller combination...how many other people prefer it?
I've used all of the control schemes and I feel comfortable using them. Except the Wiimote by itself, it's just way too limiting that way.
I have good news: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BS520SG
There's a problem with this: it'll most likely be registered as a Classic Controller. The GC controller lacks 3 buttons from the Classic Controller, so I wouldn't expect to use this with much

Sakurai...why? You don't have to make the games exactly the same. SSB has always been a console series. Honestly, that should be your priority. Don't let the handheld version (which is ALWAYS watered down from the console version) hold you back. Dangit, now I don't even want them to make a 3DS version.

I hope they don't are too restricted to the 3DS limits. On the other hand, they are going to cram in around 700-800 pokemon in the new pokemon game, so they probably have enough space on the cartridge to make it work with room left.
Oh thank god, I've always wanted to play as an individual Pikmin.
I heard something like PikminU has a new protagonist so I wasn't sure so I just put Pikmin down.
Holy shit there's an Arthur skin for Project M? I wanna see that in action

Double awesome. Definitely makes me a lot more inclined to buy a WiiU now, the lack of gamecube controller for the new smash was always something that worried me greatly
You know I really think costumes could be one of the best things to happen to this game were they to pursue it. You can add more characters to the game without upsetting balance. You can have clone characters without really having clone characters. And you can happily charge for them without people complaining about a paywall.
Holy shit there's an Arthur skin for Project M? I wanna see that in action
What? I take it you've never heard of Brawl Vault. Here. over 30,000 hacks for Brawl. (warning: there's a lot of shitty stuff on there. It takes a bit of digging to find the good stuff.)

Would be nice to at least look at some well-made Brawl hacks.
Double awesome. Definitely makes me a lot more inclined to buy a WiiU now, the lack of gamecube controller for the new smash was always something that worried me greatly
Sad story, I ended up being given one of those Bundle Wii's that had no backward compatibility, so I had to buy controllers and I adapted myself to the Nunchunk/Wiimote style of play. Thank goodness for the customizable controls. But going back to GC controller will do good. Especially for my left thumb. That analog is so smooth now.
