I'm kinda sad seeing Lucina being treated like that. I was really happy to see her on the roster, and planned her to be my main, but seeing she's just Marth, but easier, kinda blow it for me.
The alternatives were her literally being a Marth costume, or not being in the game at all. You literally are lucky to even have her as playable.
The alternatives were her literally being a Marth costume, or not being in the game at all. You literally are lucky to even have her as playable.
Agreed, even as a hardcore Awakening fan I'm grateful we have her at all.
i wanted at least one awakening rep i ended up getting the two i wanted the most
I'm just really happy Captain Falcon is finally confirmed... was getting worried another one of the originals was being eliminated haha
Another?
i don't like the way they handled lucina. depending on how they balance the tipper vs balanced moveset, i have a feeling that either lucina or marth will be played, and one will be just strictly worse. i would have preferred if she was a costume i think.
Have we seen Shadow as an Assist Trophy yet? If not, I wouldn't be surprised if he turned out to be an alt costume for Sonic. The two are similar enough.
Come to think of it, Sakurai DID say that the first place they'd look for newcomers would be Assist Trophies (hence Little Mac)...
Sonic turning into Metal Sonic when using a Metal box would be rad.
no man, it needs to be an alt skin so we can have Metal Metal Sonic
i don't like the way they handled lucina. depending on how they balance the tipper vs balanced moveset, i have a feeling that either lucina or marth will be played, and one will be just strictly worse. i would have preferred if she was a costume i think.
Lucina will probably be Training-Wheels Marth; Marth's better when you learn to play him, but Lucina is easier off the bat.
So if we have at least one newcomer coming...are people still expecting Choirmen? Because I honestly think there are better charecters that can be used. But if choirmen do get in I'm sure they will make them fun to play as.
I'm expecting a Rhythm Heaven rep since Sneaky Spirits are an odd choice to include at all without some larger reason, and I'd personally like the Choir Men/Chorus Kids. It could be someone else though. (I'd like Choir Men because most RH rhythm games have the set up of "you're the 3rd/4th person in a group, copy what the others do" and you could pull that off aesthetically with the Choir Kids.)
So if we have at least one newcomer coming...are people still expecting Choirmen?
I hope so, I was skeptical as to whether or not I wanted a RH rep but the more I thought about it and how a rhythm based move set would work the more I wanted to see them get in.
We're getting a RH rep- the Sneaky Ghost is the only enemy without a fighter tied to it. Will the Chorus Boys be that rep? Who knows at this point. Overall it'd be silly to outright dismiss the idea.
I'd like to see the wrestler in all his muscular glory, but that may just be me.
Lucina will probably be Training-Wheels Marth; Marth's better when you learn to play him, but Lucina is easier off the bat.
That would seem sort of insulting to people wanting to main her for the character.
I'd like to see the wrestler in all his muscular glory, but that may just be me.
every fighting game needs a luchador
every fighting game needs a luchador
You know what other luchador had a game on a Nintendo console? Strong Bad.
That would seem sort of insulting to people wanting to main her for the character.
I see it less as 'training-wheels' and more about spacing. Marth caters towards hitting with the tip and thus is more technical, while Lucina is a little faster but doesn't have the special tip hitting at all. If anything, Lucina plays like an approachable and traditional fighter and Marth's just the more advanced combatant due to relying on close-range precision.
Come to think of it, Sakurai DID say that the first place they'd look for newcomers would be Assist Trophies (hence Little Mac)...
Where did he say this?
every fighting game needs a luchador
? Guacamelee did just come out on the Wii U.
I prefer Karate Joe as Rhythm Heaven rep [t]http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130724193619/rhythmheaven/images/f/f3/Karate_Joe_%28Wii%29.png[/t]
That would seem sort of insulting to people wanting to main her for the character.
Sorry that one character has better skill-indexing? As for any RH rep, if Karate Joe gets in I'd like it if he had a gimmick like how Robin has aerial smashes. But instead of aerial smashes, all of his attacks are multi-hit like Link's f-smash, Meta's f-tilt. You can wait a beat and a half before an attack ends, so you can throw people off by having odd rhythm. Add in delayed projectiles via "Hit 3!" and "Bomb-kick!" from his actual games in the series and you have a character who rewards you for having unique rhythm.
? Guacamelee did just come out on the Wii U.
Nuh-uh, you goddamn square. Didn't you catch my previous post? Hell, Strong Bad is on his way to the Smash auditions right now. Take a look: [t]http://www.frictionlessinsight.com/revpics2/StrongBad104/StrongBad104A.jpg[/t]
If we're getting a RH rep, it's gonna be a composite character- one that includes a huge amount of references and attacks from other minigames of the series. This may be because of the leak, but the Chorus boys seem to me to be the best choice- simple designs, seen in multiple minigames, and other such things.
Possibly take back what I said about the Chrom being cut thing being false, Neogaf discussing that the magazine does say it based on what JP people are commenting but no one so far has uploaded a scan of the section that mentions it. Hopefully that will be uploaded soon, interested in the reasoning and confirmation that he was indeed specifically cut.
Personally, I don't think he was cut persay- they only wanted a single newcomer from Awakening, and had to chose between Chrom and Robin (for they're both the protagonists). Because Robin is the more interesting character ability wise, they went with him/her. Chrom was then used as their final smash because of the partner system ingame.
I'd like to see the wrestler in all his muscular glory, but that may just be me.
Funny you mention that. The fact Smash has never had a grappler before could also be a niche filled by this guy, all of his attacks, grabs and throws doing more or less damage depending on how well you can keep a beat with them (indicated by a metronome next to your status portrait) As you execute more moves with good timing, the metronome will speed up and you can execute them faster, but mess up once and it resets. The moment the metronome strikes the center you both deal and receive more damage from attacks, so foes can time their own attacks to maximize their effect on you. [editline]t[/editline] Both using and fighting him would take rhythm, which I think would convey his representative franchise perfectly.
Grappling doesn't seem like it could work as a central mechanic.
As a wrestler, his special moves could be advanced grabthrows, suplexes and piledrivers that operate on proper timing. Time the action well and it does lots of damage and knockback at the end, time it poorly and he messes up, doing minimal damage or even letting go of the foe. Also if you grab someone and they press any button with better timing than you while held, they'll break free (as in, if they press B a fraction of a second closer to perfect than you do during the grab, your move fails. Mashing is detected and ignored)
Wrestler is pretty recognizable considering how popular RH is, but he's an even narrower choice then the other options. Compared to 'in a game in each series' Karate Joe, 'recurring mascot' Rhythm Girl, 'iconic one off that appeared in most promotional material' Choir Kids or even 'suspiciously similar substitute mascot' Marshal, Wrestler would be left wing.
Character choice aside, what are your thoughts on the whole "there is a metronome, time your attacks to it to deal more damage, but your opponent deals more to you if they do the same" idea?
