Correct me if I'm wrong but I think an interview with Sakurai confirmed they weren't interested in making costumes/skins a regular thing because they want characters to stay true to what they're representing.
Pretty sure he said that in response to being asked if costumes would give clones a place to be, ie moveset-modifying costumes. Something akin to Wario's 2 costumes I can see working just fine if done for other characters. It's not like animations are different, just the model and texture.

If we take Dr.Mario, Diffrent model and texture for the mario, and diffrent model, texture and maybe sound for the fireball(pills). I don't see how this would negatively affect the game's reputation; I'd say it'd attract players.

Not confirmed, of course, but definitely still possible.
It's still possible guys, it was just my memory failing me when I was thinking of an article.
I kinda want Mario to have this costume from Sunshine
Eh, I can go without costume changes to be honest. Wario is an exception because he has two iconic outfits, everyone else is fine with one.
Mr. L Luigi costume is a must
I wonder what sort of things we'll see if they're aiming for a middle-ground between the competitive/casual dissonances between Melee and Brawl. If there's one thing that I want to see, it's that the tech skills are intuitive to learn. Simply not knowing of a tech skill's existence while playing normally puts up a high barrier of entry if that player wants to play against players who do know tech skills; and the only way he can learn is to look it up online. Shouldn't a player just learn these skills in the game without needing outside help? Even something as small as an audio cue when accidentally performing a tech skill. It'd prompt the user that something special had just happened and that they should pay attention to it. One of the things I think the smash series as a whole has on the rest of the fighting game scene is the ease of entry. While each character has unique movesets, it's rather easy to get to grips with any one that you jump into the game with: you have standard attacks, air attacks, throws, shield/dodges, and special attacks, all of which are contained within a few buttons: A/B/Z and the control stick. It's way easier to jump into a game of Smash bros as a random character than any other fighting game where each character has a different set of controls to use their moves; it allows players to easily transition to learning a new character instead of having to abandon memorized button combinations in order to start anew.
Why I Should Be in the Next Super Smash Brothers 1. Moveset (B: Dream Socks, Up-B: Hungry Stretch, Side-B: Squirt Conditioner, Down-B: Drop Sand Art, Final Smash: Piano Serenade) 2. I always look stoned and pick people up when I get excited. 3. I can write and voice-act all of my own lines. 4. Kids would love to play as me. 5. You know you need me. This was my message to Sakurai. I'm feeling hopeful.
I'd imagine him being another assist trophy that obnoxiously whines for 5 minutes straight.
Resetti :v:
Resetti :v:
hence i said "another"

Also was that the reward for getting all the shines? Or was it just the postcard?

An actually decent screenshot, showing us a character we haven't had much focus on yet. I'm impressed, Sakurai.
dr. wily stage fuck yeah
a yellow devil boss battle would be cool as hell, with a remix of the MM1 boss music
a yellow devil boss battle would be cool as hell, with a remix of the MM1 boss music
He's clearly just a stage hazard. And it would have to be the hardest boss fight in existence or it wouldn't be faithful to the original(s)
There's no reason that he couldn't be a boss
Here's to hoping that the story mode contains several bosses from other games
He's clearly just a stage hazard. And it would have to be the hardest boss fight in existence or it wouldn't be faithful to the original(s)
But why isn't Kirby taking damage from touching it? That could mean it's an assist trophy. We don't really know what Sakurai's planning. This is the first time we've seen it outside of MegaMan's video.
What if Yellow Devil is actually a playable character.
What if Yellow Devil is actually a playable character.
Yellow Devil becomes playable despite taking up 1/4th of the stage. Ridley is still a boss. Ridley fans flip their shit.
What if Yellow Devil is actually a playable character.
but he's too big some jerk just stole my spotlight damn
But why isn't Kirby taking damage from touching it? That could mean it's an assist trophy. We don't really know what Sakurai's planning. This is the first time we've seen it outside of MegaMan's video.
You only take damage from attacks i believe. Like the SE bosses.

Something tells me it's either a story boss, or a Challenge Mode kind of unique battle deal. .. or both.

I wonder what this means for damage collision for bosses...
Maybe one of the Yellow Devils' attacks is absorbing a player, damaging them ala gulpin, and then spitting them out and we're looking at kirby being sucked in?

His right hand looks like its about to punch.
