I wish people would stop putting Ridley on their lists, he isn't going to happen
I wish people would stop putting Ridley on their lists, he isn't going to happen
Thank you for providing insight on the game's development, Mr. Sakurai.
Besides, does anyone really think they'd cut Yoshi? He's a huge character, really lovable, and he has TWO new games on the horizon.
what games? I know about that yarn game but i havent heard of two yoshi games
Saying that Toon Link deserves to be in Smash as much as Dr. Mario is just ignorant talk.
For the rest it's a very standard but ok list. Maybe too much Donkey Kong, 2 reps is enough.
Yeah, I was a little hasty to make claims like that. I just think it's a little unnecessary to have two versions of the same character when there's more interesting and original reps. That's where I drew the Dr. Mario/Tlink parallel.
As for the DK rep I think with the series being revived with the Returns series and with characters like K. Rool ripe for the picking, it's fitting to have a 3rd rep. If Star Fox can get three, Donkey Kong can too.
Personally I would just have toon link as an alt costume for link like doctor mario would be for mario.
There would be problems with size differences. If they made a toon version of adult Link that could work but having Toon Link as a costume wouldn't, just because they have totally different builds. Dr. and regular Mario have the same
Some characters they could totally add at this point (not saying ALL of them would get in at the same time, I'm just saying they'd be neat/viable):
-Paper Mario
-Waluigi
-Fawful
-Funky Kong
-King K. Rool
-Dixie and Kiddie (think Ice Climbers, but if Popo occasionally used Nana as a blunt weapon)
-Blue (Bulbasaur, Charmeleon, Blastoise)
-Green (Charmander, Wartortle, Venusaur)
-Mewtwo (can Shiek Switch into Newtwo)
-Toon Ganon
-Toon Zelda/Tetra
-Mask-Switching Young Link
-Link to the Past-style Link (basically the new Young/Toon Link, but with the ability to turn into a drawing for his final smash or a taunt or something)
-Little Mac
-King Hippo
-Simon Belmont
-Kat and Ana
-Dr. Wily (works like Pokémon Trainer, sending out different Robot Masters)
-The Elite Beat Agents (again, think Ice Climbers, where multiple characters control as a unit)
-Louie/some other Captain from Pikmin (you could give them the same B and Down B as Olimar, but totally different moves and stats aside from that)
-Banjo and Kazooie
As for some story-mode-type bosses...
-Guts Tank
-Wily's Dragon
-Mother Brain
-Medusa
-Mr. Dream
-A Metal Gear
-Andross
-Dr. Robotnik
-Giovanni/Ghetsis/N
-Nightmare/Krakko/Marx
-King Dodongo
-Cackeletta/Dark Star/Midbus
-Yoshi's Island Giant Baby Bowser
-Dracula (if Simon got in, by some miracle)
-Grunty (if Banjo and Kazooie got in, by some even greater miracle)
Funny thing is, I wrote this list down like over a year ago when I was bored one day. I also had some stages. A few of the ones I had written down included Wily's Castle, Spirit Tracks, and Dream FIght (boxing ring). Called the shit out of it.
Not sure about most of these suggestions but the elite beat agents need to be in it somehow.
what games? I know about that yarn game but i havent heard of two yoshi games
Yarn Yoshi for Wii U and Yoshi's New Island for 3DS
I wish people would stop putting Ridley on their lists, he isn't going to happen
Does it really matter that much either way? You're getting offended by the presence of a name.
Apparently Yoshi 3ds is being developed by the some of the guys who did the DS one, so there goes pretty much the last of my hopes of it being decent. I'm not too exited about Yarn Yoshi, I think that kind of artstyle looses it's novelty very quickly.
It seems he's been replaced in the core 8 by Pit.
The only SSB64 default character not to be shown yet.
Ness was a secret character in SSB64, like Luigi, Jigglypuff and Captain Falcon, and these four tend to always been shown last (even on the Smash Bros Dojo for SSBB they were shown very late).

well yoshi wasn't a secret character

i don't get why people seem to want waluigi in smash bros more than waluigi in his own GAME.
is he even relevant? he's just a filler character for the party games, and i think he has potential to be more than that but until he is (WHICH HE ISN'T) there's no reason they'd put him in smash bros and no reason he SHOULD BE IN smash bros. i wouldn't complain if they did put him in but why the fuck would they
Oh please oh please put Waluigi in
Still wanting Little Mac
I mean I'm already dead with happiness because of Mega Man but add in the WVBA champ and I'll be set.

He's the "fourth bro." And trust me, I'd kill for a "Super Wario Bros."
He's the "fourth bro."
that doesn't mean anything until they do something with his character

Wario and Waluigi are extreme opposites in terms of body types. An platforming experience with both of them in it wouldn't be as comparable as Mario and Luigi are. Wario has a lot more brute strength and Waluigi has...weird lankiness?? Something akin to Wario Land 3 but with the ability to swap brothers in order to access different areas thanks to their different physiques would be amazing. Hell, another Wario Land game would be incredible in its own right; I'm confused as to why his brother hasn't so much as made a cameo appearance in the Wario Land or WarioWare titles.

Waluigi has never been labeled as Wario's brother. It's been mentioned a few times, and that's in off translations. But it's never been officially labeled. Hence the quotation marks.
An idea someone came up with was cheating to win. Breaking the 4th wall, even, for "Super Wario Bros."

It was Charles Martinet who said that.

He's THAT good at being stealthy
A damn shame Lucario probably will be getting the axe; he was awesome to play as, specially when you managed to survive to 150% and started to rape everything... I'd really like to have both it and Mewtwo around to be honest, relevancy or not... (also, pretty much used one as starter in White 2, and the thing really kicks major ass in-game).
Waluigi is pretty much the ultimate wildcard at this point. His chances are highly dependent on whether Sakurai wants to add a wonky character who will have a weird play style or not.
Personally, I think Waluigi would be glorious. I can see his reveal trailer now. We just have a cloaked figure walking through the desert in a parody of the halo trailer. Suddenly a strong gust of wind knocks the cloak off, revealing it to be Waluigi. A man can dream.

lucario is one of my favourite pokemon so i was really glad they put him in brawl. he kicks ass in competitive too. i guess theres no reason to keep him in though, hes no longer topical
Jigglypuff. Or the lineup of PT, for that matter. No longer being new makes a horrible reason, after all. Avoiding the removal of characters should had been one of the priorities of the development of new Smash bros games. Making it so the 2 versions, in highly different platforms in terms of raw power, have the same roster, will probably be hindering for the home console version.

well they're more iconic i guess. maybe not so much jigglypuff but the original SSB64 veterans have remained. who knows though cause most of the characters they removed from brawl were clones, but lucario is a clone of mewtwo for the most part
They have 2 moves in common. By your logic Jigglypuff is a clone of Kirby.

which two moves do they have in common

maybe clone is the wrong term, sorry, but lucario replaced mewtwo and is pretty similar
