Eh, characters never appear in Smash with generic weapons if possible. They always use some plot-significant sword or whatever. Master Sword, Falchion, Ragnell, Sword of Seals... hell, even Ganondorf's sword that only appears for a taunt is pulled straight from Twilight Princess, isn't it?

Then again, it may not be due to popularity why Jigglypuff was in every game to date so far, she was pretty much not part of the main story, to the extent that she and Wolf were basically characters you unlock after beating the game.
At this point, i think she's only in due to being an original Veteran and also to potentially balance out the female:male ratio of the playable cast, as for Lucario, it's down to Game Freak which Pokemon are in and which ones are out...Lucario was probably in Brawl purely because he seemed to have been made out to be the "Wolverine" of the Pokemon franchise at the time of release.
He had: a Major part it its own movie, was obtainable in egg form (as a Riolu) in-game in DPPla, his popularity was so large that it extended to Riolu (which is saying a lot since it's a baby Pokemon) what with the Ranger Aura Sphere Riolu event, a few Ranger episodes and even a passing mention to [sp]Ash's Aura detection ability[/sp] and is probably one of the few starting route Pokemon who has decent type coverage during the endgame, doubt Zoroark could ever match Lucario's fame though...they just tried too hard with the movie, it seemed like they released BW so fast that they didn't release Snarl's TM, which they taught it to event Zoroark just so that the move would be legally available.
It wasn't until BW2 that you could catch [sp]N's Wild[/sp] Zoroark, and be awarded a Zorua as a gift [sp]from one of the 7 Sages[/sp], if they're intending to space out XY until the 7th Generation, it might be likely that they would stretch out one of the movies, Meloetta was an oddity that it wasn't available until after Genesect was released on the WiFi connection whereas Meloetta was from real life events, had Meloetta got its own movie, they could've saved a spot for Zoroark, but it seems that Mewtwo has a higher chance now due to being a one-time vet and a Pokemon with a genuine non-marketed fan base.

Yup, I think they even mentioned on brawls website that he should be using that sword for fighting instead of taunting.
Makes more sense to me to have Ganon fight with the sword, that way people won't be bitching he's a capt. falcon clone too
I support the idea of adding Black Shadow to be the heavy Captain Falcon clone so Ganondorf can get his own moveset. (I know this is said a lot, but oh well.)

Not to mention Black Shadow would ham it up in such a way to reach previously unseen levels of porklimbness. Seriously, evil wrestling batman from the same universe as Smash-Falcon (F-Zero Falcon is nowhere near the level of ham the Smash version brings to the table).
Also, if Ganondorf gets the Sheik treatment and gets a new design on par with the latest game of his home franchise, I'd be happy. Bonus points if he wields Demise's sword.
So since it's almost been a month since we've gotten substantial new character info (Jesus H. Christ) my next guess on "when are they gonna reveal the next goddamn character" to be on the 11th, one month after the reveal of the game. Theoretically if they revealed one character every month they'd still have enough newcomers to be a surprise.
Well, I'd like to see stuff like Yoshi, Peach or Meta Knight; Brawl only had 4 new characters we didn't know of upon release (the only new unlockables were Lucario, Wolf, R.O.B. and Toon Link, and that one doesn't quite count; the rest of unlockables were in Melee, even as starters in 2 cases, or in the back of the box).
Most unlockables should be new characters.
Would still like to see the likes of Simon Belmont or Alucard or something.

I would also like that. Considering how they handled Megaman it gives me a little more faith that they wouldn't fuck up and base it off a modern version.
If Black Shadow magically makes it into the game and Captain Falcon keeps his Final Smash, it should do a special animation from the anime for Black Shadow if hit by it.
