I didn't know the game had a launcher lol, I had the exe added to steam and was launching directly.
The launcher will automatically have Steam in-game open, even if you don't launch it from Steam.
Flame Tank Rush is the best
I like the renegade menu theme quite a bit

Also stealth blackhand + nuke = sad GDI
I keep nuking GDI this way
Man Frank Klepacki is such a good composer, looking back through all the different C&C soundtracks, I have yet to find a song by him that I don't like.
We covered this pages ago. The entire intent was to bring Renegade to a new and better engine. Mods and custom maps will come, just enjoy the (mostly) classic game for now.
ya but i was also annoyed by some of the quirky movement constraints, a 1 foot deep river being unfordable by a mammoth tank is just weird
I cant wait till under is remade
I just had an hour and a half long war on Whiteout, still going, on I think one of the [del]St0rm.net servers (no timer)[/del], decided [del]entirely[/del] by Gunner Rush, as usual, Nod Nukes everything apart from the GDI Barracks
GDI tanks fucking everything thrown at the barracks (fucking hotwire, fucking respawning defences, fucking barracks design making it hard to hide nukes) after about 40 minutes of failed Stealth Nuke rushes, Arty spam, Stealth Tank rushes and Flame Tank Rushes, GDI destroyed the Hand of Nod with a Gunner Rush, 10 more minutes, they get the refinery, I think by the same gunner rush tactics. I then spent all of my savings on like 6 Stealth Tanks to try another rush, when suddenly; not one, but TWO GDI guys, without any spy crates or anything, got inside the base and fucked shit up by stealing 2 of the empty Stealth Tanks. Seriously though... fuck that team! Whiteout! There's one entrance! they had no disguise! no stealth! no aircraft! HOW THE HECK DO YOU LET TWO GUYS GET INTO THE BASE!? Eventually they got the power plant with the same Gunner Rush Tactics, GG to GDI, they're gonna get the Airstrip in a moment too.
EDIT
Okay, we're still fucking going...
Also, it wasn't St0rm, it was Jelly Marathon or something.

What a nice thing to wake up to.
It's back up now.
Also, I recommend connecting with the "Enter IP" function, a lot more reliable, just type in 79.160.178.26 and port 25555.
Okay jelly marathon stalemate is still going...
Nod guy gets a medium tank in a random crate, gets out, with 3 other engineers around him, in the middle of the map.
A GDI dude rushed the tank and stole it.
[editline]3rd March 2014[/editline]
For a bit of timescale, I sent these messages to a friend when GDI lost the refinery
08:20 - Jeff the Hobo: No timer + Whiteout + GDI Barracks turtle
08:21 - Jeff the Hobo: This is gonna take a while
08:25 - Jeff the Hobo: Vehicles 2/10, there's an abandoned stealth tank and apache in the base
08:26 - Jeff the Hobo: Yep, this team has their priorities straight
08:30 - Jeff the Hobo: Okay, GDI has made a counter attack
08:30 - Jeff the Hobo: Gunner Rush and they took out the hand of nod
08:32 - Jeff the Hobo: It might actually happen
08:32 - Jeff the Hobo: GDI might win on whiteout
08:40 - Jeff the Hobo: Okay... fuck this team
08:41 - Jeff the Hobo: after we lost the hand of nod, I bought 5 stealth tanks for a rush
08:41 - Jeff the Hobo: and... two GDI guys got 3 of them killed by getting inside the goddamn base.
08:59 - Jeff the Hobo: Welp, nearly ended now
08:59 - Jeff the Hobo: Lost the ref + power to gunner rush
It's now 10:50, neither side is making progress, the silo in the middle of the map switches hands occasionally, but aside from that, not a lot happens.
renegade is a holy relic from a forgotten age. people these days are in the terrible CoD "KILL EVERYTHING" mindset.
so expecting teamwork is a bit much.
By now, it's very obvious that both sides are feeling a battle fatigue, there's a lot of people that look almost AFK, standing around the bases and not really doing a whole lot.
This would be so much easier if random crates didn't keep giving GDI vehicles and giving Nod nukes in the middle of our tank rushes.

I once ran to a crate in hope of getting a vehicle after our War Factory was blown up. What I got instead was a Ion Beam right on the top of my head. Friendly fire even exists in the future.
It's OVER! the three and a half hour long struggle is finally over, GDI broke through the lines with gunner rush, vehicles, C4 and airstrikes
Was repairing infantry as much of a pain in the ass in the original as it is now?
Really think repair gun should either use bigger hitbox on infantry or work as medigun in TF2.
It was much easier to repair inf in renegade because it did feel like it had a bigger hitbox and you could use free aim to track easier.
Charge cancelling on the railguns is so satisfying.

Repairing in general was easier in the original. Well, hitting with the beam was anyway. For some fucked up reason the outside of buildings is piss easy to repair in Ren X. Great when I'm on defense and don't want to have to stand by the MCT to patch light damage, annoying as shit when I'm on offense and a Hotwire standing outside can repair anything I do.
Time limit really kills this game. Everyone keeps winning by score despite being at a direct disadvantage building wise all the time.
There are marathon servers up for that. Most servers put a time limit on - typically 30 minutes to an hour, in classic the average was 45 minutes - to try and force one team to end a stalemate and actually work together. Also to avoid the burnout of playing on the same map for several hours.

I just put the server on marathon mode, so that shouldnt be a problem here atleast.
If there's ever any "Annoying" stalemates, I could always force change map.
It seems the endless stalemates are a design feature of this game... That's a bit of a shame. People say this isn't CoD where matches take 5 minutes, but that's BS in my opinion. When I want to play a game I don't want to spend 2 hours on a single map, endlessly doing the same fruitless tasks over and over and never actually working towards the objective.
I wonder what the game would be if they made buildings more vulnerable somehow. Not too much, but enough to make 4 flame tank squad effective against them even when they have 2 measly engineers standing next to MCT.
It's just that I can't, these stalemates drive me crazy, and losing after 2 hours of fruitless defense is even worse. I'd be fine with it being more about "destroy their base before they destroy yours" rather than "turtle harder to win" that it is now.

Neat, something to balance the teams automatically would be good, was in a 8v4 fight yesterday when some people left, wasn't good.
You can always just vote to change the map or something.
If it's an endless stalemate it's obvious that you're not putting in enough effort as a team, which is usually the case.
Most if not all marathon servers I see are US based and I don't want to play on a server with high ping.
^ This is the current problem, I was in a stalemate that lasted over an hour yesterday - and we finally broke through not by luck or anything like that, but by actually trying a strategy
And even then we only got like 8 people to do that strategy out of 20 and work together instead of just rushing in headfirst and dying or just running around shooting people.
I guarantee a lot of the stalemate issues could be negated with actual coordination - a lot of the things we tried before the "winning" one actually almost worked considering we didn't have a huge amount of coordination - stuff that would have probably worked great if we had more willing teammates.
Also, do the superweapons 'tick down' too quickly in comparison to their actual timer? They hit the highest note waaaaaaaaay before the weapon is active.
So apparently a buddy of mine hopped on the FP server last night and enjoyed it, so now I'm downloading to play.

The flame tank thing is actually an issue with with the tanks, not with buildings. They nerfed the living fuck out of flame tanks, used to be 5 flame tanks could completely level a base if GDI didn't have tanks or PICs ready. Flame tanks have honestly gone to crap, their balance used to be massive damage at close range, giant targets from medium range and up.
For some reason I can't join the FP server anymore, I get a loading screen for a few seconds only to end up being thrown out to the main menu with no warning. Other servers work fine tough.
-nvm game over-
