Just played Renegade for the first time, having never played the original game, only the old C&C RTS games. I can definitely see where naysayers are coming from, the oldschool gameplay is a bit of a cold shower in 2014, but you can get used to it. Hey, the game is fun and seems balanced, so all's fine. Still, I can't say I wouldn't be curious to see a modern take on the concept, but I don't mind what we got at all. Another thing I don't mind at all either is that it is C&C as it was meant to be - sneaky nasty NOD with invisibility cloaks and flamethrowers and tacticool GDI with Mammoth tanks and orcas. Same goes for artstyle - instead of horrible C&C3 plastic toy tech, the stuff looks like actual military equipment, same as the old C&C - except rendered on fancy and (somewhat) modern graphics engine.
"Plastic toy tech" That's exactly the words I've been trying to find to describe the 3D CnC games for ages, thank you. Man, I miss the old gritty voxel graphics.

I'm not saying dumb it down to CoD levels, but just a little less tough.
I like how much it takes to kill somebody because I have fairly good enough aim to outshoot the average player and unlike battlefield I'm not dying every time i spawn though I'm sticking to servers with < 40 players currently Is there any way to roll?

That and some bugs ironed out is all the game needs.

It was a long time ago since I played Renegade, but I feel like this game really capture the gameplay of the old game. I love it
they must add a delay to the Q buttong thing. Having someone spam "repair that building!" 10 times a second is kinda crazy, especially with more than 20 players.
Fuck me this is the first game I've played in a while that has managed to recapture that "westwood C&C magic" that so many future C&C games lacked.
Agh. This is way too slow a game. Matches take an hour, and 9/10 times nothing actually happens. Renegade remains one of the most boring games I've ever played.
we get that you don't like the game by now.

I think it's a bit crappy when one team is stuck at their base but the other team can't push in to it causing a stalemate at the front gate (woo rhyme). Regardless, this is still one of the most amazingly fun things I've played recently.

Ohh man, all of that was just like the old days. Some stuff definitely needs tweaking, and the beacons being unable to be disarmed once they reach 10 seconds is BS in my opinion, but damn if it isn't just as fun as I remember.
EA was making a spiritual successor called Tiberium, but it was scrapped at 90%.
I was actually REALLY excited for Tiberium, EA or not. It looked like it could've been really badass, and I was incredibly disappointed that they canned it.
Playing this makes me feel like back in the golden age.

It takes 57 seconds for a beacon to go off in renx and 47 in ren. They wanted to add a point of no return because disarming a beacon in the original would cause the falling nuke to just vanish midair.

I was actually not aware of that, I thought it felt longer but it's been years since I last played Renegade. It makes sense I guess, but I'm glad they added an extra 10 seconds on so it didn't make beacons too powerful.
I love that moment where you have to GTFO when you don't remove the beacon in time. Especially with the ion cannon as shit starts happening around you (I wish they had they had it more like the old one where several laser beams would fly to the beacon)
Man, the potential for mods for this is really cool. I hope somebody eventually makes a true base-building gamemode where 2 people play commanders like rts C&C, and other people are ground units.
I was actually REALLY excited for Tiberium, EA or not. Ugh. Airstrikes. I don't know how I feel about them. On the one hand they're a neat addition that makes some sense, but on the other hand they literally kept Nod from pushing our base in my last match because we had nothing else to spend money on.
The airstrikes saved our Obelisk from being destroyed by a swarm of Mammoth tanks. I approve
That's where airstrikes can get you about a dozen kills :v:
Airstrikes are very fun to use and very annoying to be caught up in. Goes for a lot of things realistically :v:
Where did the teamwork go? I never see an organized rush, just people running into the tunnels or the field and DMing. Also people keep fucking voting for Fields which is a horrible map. It turns into a stalemate where one side owns the field, and they swap it over. No one will willingly rush to try and destroy the other base.

One of the matches I played with Xieneus earlier was Islands, and my war factory and refinery got destroyed relatively early. We had tons of advanced infantry running around, but a full rush of flame tanks with nukes backing them would've leveled us. Most we ever saw was 2 flame tanks and maybe 2 stealth tanks at a time. Most of what happened was stealth black hands spamming nuke beacons down, which we would then disarm. We won due to the amount of damage we able to do in wiping out vehicles giving us the point lead at the end of the timer.

Lots of nuclear strike beacons were lost that round.
Go play something else?
No, he's right. Matches on Project fucking Reality take around an hour on average and that's an incredibly slow-paced game compared to this, with some maps at least 10x bigger - I'm not kidding, there are Skirmish maps on that game which are meant for 6v6, which are at least twice as large as the ones in Renegade. Once you've fought on the same map for 20 minutes, it starts to get boring running to the same chokepoints, getting a few kills in, dying and repeating. I'm not saying don't enjoy it, nor am I saying it hasn't got things right - There are enough people singing its praises. I just don't see how so many of you fail to realise how much of a wasted effort this seems to me right now due to its shortcomings, and I'm honestly surprised that KorJax, Grimhound and myself are in the minority here. When I was watching the trailers I was expecting so much more than just a direct copy of Renegade - If I wanted that, I'd go play the original which, I dare to say, actually plays better than X. Where's the commander, where's the base-building, where's the not-terrible combat, where's the teamwork facilities (Teamwork isn't even necessary), where's the maps large enough to even warrant the existence of vehicles, especially a transport helicopter? Personally I believe this game needs a shit-ton of improvement otherwise it'll just suffer the same fate as the original. It should take cues from games and mods like Empires, Natural Selection 2 and Project Reality (To an extent!). "Our gamemode is the unique FPS-RTS hybrid"? What a joke. Seriously, the only RTS elements the game contains are the fact that you have credits supplied by an AI controlled harvester, and destructible buildings from the RTS in the C&C series that perform functions. That's it. All this talk just makes me miss Emp mod so much
WE should get a group together to do organized rushes. If you got just 6-10 people to actually work together the enemy team would be fucked until they learned to play.
