Speaking of the Nexus map, am I the only one who finds those deep impact craters to be really... dull? Like it doesn't really ~feel~ like a crater, it feels more like a hole in the ground filled with debris. Especially the edges, I can't place exactly what's wrong with them but they just seem wrong.

I think it's the sharp edges, it looks like the combine grabbed some contractors to dig out a hole in the ground

It looks like they were created with construction equipment rather than happened by explosions.

If you don't know your own skills, it is probably best that you do not contribute to the mod. The sentiment is nice, you want to help the project succeed, but at the end of the day it is better to leave it to people who [i]do[/i] know what they're best at.

Just turn the underside of a brush into a displacement, raise it into a dome and slap this baby on it. Bam.
Maybe even add alpha to the vmt if you'd like to combine it with the 2d skybox in the background.

The sound is correct... for a small, sound-isolated room. Source doesn't do acoustics as far as I know, so you have to make sounds as general as possible to compensate. Slight echos and run-off, but not too much. Like baking lighting, except for sound.

Go into a map and enter the command "room_type 1", source has plenty of acoustic effects built in. They were even used in Half-Life 2.
Didn't HL1 have acoustic effects? Larger rooms would echo a bit? That might have been a map setting or something.

It did - it's especially noticeable in vents.

Probably because the road is composed of individual stones and yet it breaks like it's solid granite. The walls of the crater also don't accurately reflect the composition of the ground it's taken out of. It should be an easy fix for an attentive mapper.

I think a mash of this, plus the original skyboxes (with edits) Could look really nice. Maybe some cloud cards as well.

SMG primary sound needs a little bit more punch, it almost feels its being fired farther away, imo. Love the AR2 sound.

I really love the acoustics you put in the sounds. They sounds more realistic than HL2's isolated gunshots.
