So your biggest problem is that you find the suggestions unimaginative? Ok, you got a keyboard and a working brain, I'm assuming from how much you've typed? Post a suggestion you find imaginative, problem solved. What good is complaining about this if you don't want to provide an alternative?
If I could just get the source sdk working, I'd make & post one of my own concepts. I'm not good at editing pictures & one of my concepts is a little hard to describe.
Maybe you didn't intend for it to come out like this, but the way you worded it ended up making it sound like you think his alternate concepts are "making it look shittier".
Making the video-quality shittier. Yeah, poor choice of words, but I thought it made sense contextually. Look at the video quality of those Combine Jumbotrons, absolutely terrible. Much worse looking than existing monitors. I'd even go so far as to say that they look like shit.
I always tought the hl2 hud was boring to look at EDIT: i think the operation black mesa style hud would really work out for the mod, with some minor changes obviously [T]http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/7/6885/hudidle.png[/T]
lol [editline]12th August 2013[/editline] speaking of shit i did a long time ago
hi there u are
yeah dude
I never understood the fascination with making HUDs look shittier than existing displays. Like the fuzzy, curvilinear thing the operation black mesa hud is doing; the Oculus Rift & iGlasses don't have that problem, so why would a futuristic suit of armor? And why the burnt-in, overlapping numbers like the ones in Ratchet302's concept? All it does it make the numbers harder to see out the corner of your eye, so you have to look directly at it. Stop trying to make it look like a CRT monitor or Digital Watch display. That look got old with the Aliens franchise in the 80's. Why is making it look shittier considered COOL?!
Well it makes sense in operation black mesa because its the military. Generally the military doesn't go for flashy wow amazing ui they go for what works and don't really go past that. Though for a suit developed for scientific experiments by a company that may not be true. Even then, a hud that looks like it came from an iphone or something doesn't really work because it makes the game look like some sort of arcade game, while the more gritty machine-like down to earth UI makes it less so. Also the operation black mesa hud is literally the best hud Ive ever seen and I want it for everything.
Scrapping bad ideas, clearing up clutter, still got some stuff to do (this is a really early WIP). [t]http://i4.minus.com/ibnxcXeaWaJCt1.png[/t] I might also drop the digital style, not too satisfied with it, it might easily fit if Gordon was a marine but the current style does a much nicer job. Also gotta design the hud so that it's easy to implement. PS: Tons of icons are missing, I'll make them, okay. I might finish the digital hud but I'm not sure if it's worth my time, I'd rather do the important stuff first. Also there's some small scale issues in the mockup, I'll fix them later. Edit: Still working on the digital version, just putting more focus on the normal hud first. The idea is to get a proper layout for future huds before getting started on completly different styles, hope that clears it up! But I don't know, anything could change really. Edit 2: [t]http://i6.minus.com/inr3rHNxCI5Pg.png[/t]
I think you should use "oxygen" instead of "breath".
[vid]http://static.glitchvid.com/videos/new/hl2e/randchr_cf.mp4[/vid] Much better version, made a font that has proper spacing.
Way better. I wouldn't increase the CA on this at all, it's difficult to get decent aberration on orange anyway. Love that subtle warp on the display too, a little spherical.

I might just get the mod for the sexy hud Nothing else, just the hud
Yeah. [vid]http://static.glitchvid.com/videos/new/hl2e/randchr_cf.mp4[/vid] Much better version, made a font that has proper spacing.
Is there a reason why I see a grey X?
Is there a reason why I see a grey X?
Quality compression I think, FYI for those who can't see it, it's right in between the 0 and the lightning bolt, it's caused from the quality compression of the glow I believe.
[t]http://i6.minus.com/inr3rHNxCI5Pg.png[/t]
I understand the crosses over the stick-figure's there to represent that they're medics, but what's with the guy with the blob over his head & why the second, smaller red cross?
I understand the crosses over the stick-figure's there to represent that they're medics, but what's with the guy with the blob over his head & why the second, smaller red cross?
I think the blob is meant to denote someone you ordered to stay put. But that's just my guess.
the "blob" is a shield. I assume he gives you armour points.
[t]http://i6.minus.com/inr3rHNxCI5Pg.png[/t]
Smell the ashes.
[t]http://i6.minus.com/inr3rHNxCI5Pg.png[/t]
i think the o2/sprint box are should be the same size as the health box area so it lines up and its for the most part uniform would look nice imo
Is hud shake on or off? That would look amazing.

Here's what it 'should' look like (Even minus the compression artifacts, also the image is 16bit :D) Video: [vid]http://static.glitchvid.com/videos/new/hl2e/htest_ns_cbr.mp4[/vid]
it'd be a neat addition for this 7 seg display hud to display an error when the player dies. something like the following perhaps? (excuse my shit mockup)
If you're trying to simulate a HUD you probably should drop the dark unlit elements—real HUDs are additive only. Other than that I do like what you have.
Will this mod run on my 486?

I was also thinking about having the inside of the cross fill up / color depending on the value, I've yet to get around to that. Also, your mockup is really damn good; it was only missing glow (I actually had to create the r specifically for this :v:)
Gosh, I HATE those HUD with those numbers whatever it's called. I see them everyday in my summer job on screen and now I should look on them even during playing games (Well, not really now though but still). If this will get into the game, I am gonna most likely replace it with the stock HUD which I am completely okay with.
I wouldn't be good at your job then I'd just stare at the segmented display... all day long.
I work as controler's assistant so I am checking some mechanical things, controlling if nothing is getting out of hand, limits and shit for the most part. Yeah, after like 2 hours of this you feel like punching hole in every display you see there. And then your realize that there is still around 6 hours of this left.

About the HUD icons, please fix the crossbow actually looking like it does in the game.

I'm not sure how alphas/translucency play in Half-Life 2, but making the font pitch black then an alpha/translucency of 127.5 or 63.75 (half and quarter of 255) which gives the same kind of result above.
