Adding existing enemies is too much but creating your own from scratch is not? That's a weird line you've drawn.
I'd think they would've died out/all been hunted/extremely endangered, which is why you don't see them.
Just like how you don't see any barnacles, ichthyosaur, leeches or antlions in HL2, right?
Now if you DO wanna make more enemies that would fit in the canon, it would make more sense to add something like a new synth or zombie type
That's the exact opposite of "fit in the canon". Making up new shit instead of bringing back things that have already been established as existing is as far removed from fitting in canon as you can possibly get.
No view-bob at the end? There goes the WON feeling.[/enoughshitrant]
Good. WON HL1 felt like running around with an inner ear infection. View bob is never done right, it's usually just a circular up & down motion that changes amplitude with movement speed. The only camera bobbing should come from the actual player model's head, which can be kept pretty smooth with good animations & maybe a little inverse kinematics.
On an unrelated note, gosh this mod has come far from thread 01...my skins were pretty ugly shit back then when it first started. :v:
Everyone's work improves (Especially when you start working in large mod teams): look at my old textures , mediocre crap compared to stuff I can do now. This is what taking your time is beneficial for; you improve more than anything else.

That makes me kinda sick.
I don't know how you guys can get sick from screen bobbing.
I don't know how you guys can get sick from screen bobbing.
And I don't know how people get car sick, but it happens.
I don't get sick from it, I get annoyed. Sure, there are some people that do, but it's more irritating & jarring than sickening. A friend of mine found the camera tilt in Black Mesa dizzying. There's a reason Valve removed it with an update & didn't add it to HL2. It was just wrong. At the very least it should have the roll angle change depending on directional velocity, if it doesn't do that already. Personally, I'd rather see the camera roll change with the camera yaw while running at high speeds, like a sprinter or cyclist banking into a turn. It could prove to be just as bad, so like every other game element, it'd need to be tested. (I could see it working with just the body or viewmodel, but I could be wrong)
The worst type of viewbob is when the entire screen moves with no focus. That makes me kinda sick.
That reminds me, I had this one suggestion for Black Mesa that they never tried, where the aim pitch changed with the view bob to simulate vestibulo-ocular reflex, but that'd probably be even more sickening.
No, you can't just remove the files for them. The game entities will still be present unless you implement some sort of toggle for removing/replacing them.
IIRC it's possible to patch out entities from maps with .lmp files. If people want to remove the new npcs that'd be the simplest method.
IIRC it's possible to patch out entities from maps with .lmp files. If people want to remove the new npcs that'd be the simplest method.
Or entspy which edits the .lmp files.
There's a reason Valve removed it with an update & didn't add it to HL2.
I'm assuming the guy that they used to make the airboat not awful contributed quite a bit. [sp]I mean that guy who threw up all the time[/sp]
^ wait what
I'm assuming the guy that they used to make the airboat not awful contributed quite a bit. [sp]I mean that guy who threw up all the time[/sp]
i'm pretty sure it was the jet ski that made people throw up
^ wait what
He's referring to Valve's book Raising The Bar:
One of the major problems in developing the Airboat was motion sickness. if the player's view was tightly connected to the Airboat, every slight bump was magnified, making some playtesters nauseous-in particular programmer Adrian Finol, who actually threw up after an extended playtest. As a result there was a careful redesign of the handlebar, pontoon, and roll-cage visual cues. We made these adjustments until the happy day when Adrian declared an illness-free playtest.

i'm pretty sure it was the jet ski that made people throw up
It was, that's why they changed it to an airboat. The Jetski made someone sick, so they changed it to an Airboat so there would be more focus (the frame, pontoons, rollcage, steering wheel) which helped prevent sickness.
Shit, that's why the view always stayed oriented with the ground while the airboat was flipping around. It's too bad that bothers people, I love it when games have your view tied to the actual vehicle. I wonder how you guys would handle descent with the default settings, they have the ship bob up and down slightly all the time.
Shit, that's why the view always stayed oriented with the ground while the airboat was flipping around.
It does rotate when the airboat rolls significantly. Gordon's steadying abilities rival most chickens.
Man, chickens would make great mimes.
I don't know how you guys can get sick from screen bobbing.
I get sick from low Field of Views if that's more evidence.
Ok, second attemp with the ticking sound for the grenade, if this one is not good, then, we´ll just stick with the default because there is not much to improve, it´s the way it is and people prefer it that way.

ok then, moving on to something else

I really like that blend. It's just too quiet and will probably be drowned out in a firefight which pretty much cancels out its purpose as an alert to the player. Don't let people's facetiousness stop you from changing things to your own tastes. What "Enhancement" means in this case is truly subjective, but guess what? You're the one in the pilot seat. The "spirit" of Half Life 2 is different from person to person. Your decisions may not line up with some people's idea of what the game is, but they do line up with what YOUR idea of the game is, and you're lucky enough to find yourself in the seat of control. I'm too am a sound designer for a mod that's pretty much exactly this but for Halo. Every creative decision I made early on was met with adversity because it was not exactly what was done before me. I beat my head against walls and tried to compromise with all the purists, but in the end it was about what I really wanted to bring to the project according to my interpretation of the big picture. People are actually starting to warm up to my ideas now because I've been resisting the "but where's the nostalgia in this ground up leave-nothing-standing redesign?" type criticisms, and they're starting to see my angle. Look, guys, this goes out to all the artists working on this mod. You volunteered to work on this mod because you know you have the skill set you need to achieve a vision (your personal vision) of Half Life 2 that you would really like to see go further than what Valve accomplished in 2004. You volunteered to work on this mod because your love for the game drives you to add more of what you love about it. Your vision and ideas will never gel universally with everyone. Don't let that force you to hammer your own damn personality out of your work. This goes out to everyone watching the progress of the mod. The title "Enhancement" can never be a vertical improvement. There is no such thing as an objective improvement of any artform. This is going to be a lateral expansion of the game that brought us all onto this fucking website; a collections of lateral expansions, in fact. Some people here may not be able to take advantage of the technical expansion side of this mod. Some people here may not agree with the creative decisions made in this mod either. When you have a situation where a loved property is being modified (out of love), this shit is gonna happen. It happens in the modding world, the AAA world, film, tv, toy lines, comics, novels, clothing, cars, sports, everything. tl;dr If you don't like something a modder does, they do and that's why they did it. Also they're the modder and you're not. That doesn't mean you're not supposed to offer constructive crits, it just means that everyone should take into account that these people actually do have a direction and an informed reason for going in that direction. tl;dr's tl;dr Sirlemon go home
ok then, moving on to something else
Maybe slightly modify the default?
that's exactly what the fuck that was
I really like that blend. It's just too quiet and will probably be drowned out in a firefight which pretty much cancels out its purpose as an alert to the player. "Epic speech"
Gee, that is trully inspirational Thanks for the kind words man :) About the sound, well, I did get several posts saying it was good but low, I´ll see what can be done for the notoriety, I did lower the volume a lot while editing it.
Just a question with the technical side of this, does the mod mount Half Life 2's content files and such so that if you wanted to you could just delete a file and have it replaced by the default file like most mods? That could help people modify the mod to suit there tastes as if they don't like something, just delete it!
