I'm sure the only reason it was removed from HL2 was because too many people tried to shoot-down Gunships without the guide on, a problem easily fixed by a hud notification that pops-up if you fail too much.

It's always seemed more like grotesque trial-and-error to me.

Maybe it could just be a sort of 'removable cap' for it that you take off before you fire? It would kinda make sense like that, plus it'd mean you wouldn't have to have all the polygons for the inside of the barrel for optimization. What do you guys think, no cap, or with ("removable") cap?

It doesn't have to make sense. Not much does in HL.

Well considering they're going to remake all the weapon models there is going to be some reanimating. I believe a while ago there was a big fuss about whether they wanted to do the 1 handed pistol animations like the original or better 2 handed ones

Those rails that connect the tube to the grip part look really weak for a rocket launcher imho.
