How about we stop arguing over stupid petty shit like the color of the combine's blood and actually talk about stuff that matters
Its more fun to shoot things that bleed red blood and are humanoid
How about we stop arguing over stupid petty shit like the color of the combine's blood and actually talk about stuff that matters
Like dismemberment?
Like dismemberment?
Dead Space style. That'd totally be the right thing for Half-Life 2!
Let's bitch about how come zombies have green blood despite still being human beings.
They should make the headcrabs attachments, that way they bleed yellow while the human body bleeds red. Also, more things should bleed like the Antlion Guard does in EP2. Could blood be made to drip like this?
imho the idea of dudes just bleeding horrid clear watery stuff does sound genuinely unsettling and disgusting to me and it's definitely an idea i'd like to see in other Half Life universe mods, but it doesn't fit here at all
Like dismemberment?
It'd be awesome if you could cut normal soldiers in half with the sawblade Then have them crawl at you and swing at your legs with a stunstick
It'd be awesome if you could cut normal soldiers in half with the sawblade Then have them crawl at you and swing at your legs with a stunstick
it would be even cooler if the legs still ran at you for a second then fell over limp after getting cut in half but yes a combine soldier laying in two pieces would be awesome especially if the top half was still alive taking (really bad) potshots at you

So unless the entire code for decals is re-written, it probably won't happen

you could probably do it in a hacky way by animating blood splats dripping in the VTF itself and doing some code to make sure those animated blood decals can be only done on surfaces fairly perpendicular to the ground (i.e. walls.) plus you need to add code for being able to stop VTF animations which afaik doesn't exist atm
Dead Space style. That'd totally be the right thing for Half-Life 2!
Actually I'm thinking something more subdued. Something like Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway or COD: WAW. Of course, you know there's more than one way to do dismemberment. It's not always over the top paper people. I mean, come on. I was joking in the first place obviously but that kinda pissed me off a little.

IMO,if a combine soldier loses a arm he would look to his side with the missing arm only to take out his pistol and keep firing. And if they get cut in half or lose a leg, they would craw to you and when they get close enough, they would take out a grenade to smash it on the ground and detonate it.
I think a easier way to do it would to have a high res blood puddle and then scale it down, then have the code make the decal scale over time to a certain limit. The effect shouldn't be used on simple blood hits on walls but for killed npcs. Pretty much like how Gears of War had it.
Hm... in hl2 there are water puddles in some places, (like in kleiner´s lab) which have cubemaps and reflect, in half life source that same decal with reflection was used for gonarch spit hit, I think is possible for the blood. I just remembered this http://css.gamebanana.com/sprites/1431

since when are combine sort of robot super zombie soldiers? don't they have a line when a grenade rolls near them where they yell "shit!"? They're not THAT far removed from human.
since when are combine sort of robot super zombie soldiers? don't they have a line when a grenade rolls near them where they yell "shit!"? But generally yeah, the soldiers have a certain level of emotions, or else the Overwatch wouldn't threaten them.

I think the reports are a holdover from their extensive brainwashing and conditioning, rather than conscious thought. The regular zombies also make semi-articulated sounds.
So I checked facebook just now to see this from my friend stationed at a military base somewhere in japan [t]http://i4.minus.com/iMGXuypyfNcaI.jpg[/t] Damnit why
I'm loving the look of this guys, great job so far. I hope this is finished, because I love the Half-Life games.
For the record, the full extent of combine modifications to the brains of Overwatch soldiers stated ingame is memory replacement. They still have human feelings and emotions but they're trained to be completely militaristic and unemphatic, so it never shows.
"Twas but a flesh wound!"
I thought the quote was either "'Tis but a scratch!" or "Just a flesh wound."
I thought the quote was either "'Tis but a scratch!" or "Just a flesh wound."
It is, but nobody wanted to be a buzzkill.
