To extend the metaphor, its like nature is holding on and fighting back just like the rebels are.
Damn, son, that's deep.
Grass doesn't die when trees die. At least, not where I live (not sure about Eastern Europe). Trees "die" (or rather, go dormant and minimize their surface area by dropping their leaves) when the temperature gets below a certain threshold. AFAIK, most grass species have no such response, the only situation I can think of where grass would die in the cold is if it was crushed by snow. That being said I totally agree, the dead foliage helps the tone of the game but having SOME semi-alive stuff would be nice. To extend the metaphor, its like nature is holding on and fighting back just like the rebels are.
well here, certain kinds of grass grow in the summer and die and turn yellow in the winter. so I was thinking having some green plants and make it look like it's just turning autumn. some trees have their leaves but are turning yellow, while others are dead/dieing. also perhaps adjusting the grass textures to be more yellowish. As for mapping it most likely won't be an overhaul, but stuff like better lighting and replacing ugly stuff. and making displacements and trees a little better. I feel any more than that would be going fakefactory and away from the original charm of HL2.
You know I never thought of it as autumn, as much as things just simply dead from lack of healthy land in the area.
Just don't throw in a bunch of random brushwork bushes like Fakefactory did.
Just don't throw in a bunch of random brushwork bushes like Fakefactory did.
the most big changes will consist of are like, extra rooms. Stuff to make the areas feel more like people use them rather than the rather bland areas hl2 kind of had. Also stuff to make C17 feel more like a city.
Also stuff to make C17 feel more like a city.
Enhancement mod confirmed for adding filth, corruption, hobos, gangs, and prostitution to C17.
Yo, you guys want to stick with the fall and have dead trees along with trees with red and yellow leaves? or perhaps add some evergreens? Personally I think a little more greenery would do HL2 some good. Because you have alive grass at the coast even though the trees are dead.
Yeah because you guys loved the coastal greenery here... Train Station walls, now with SSBump maps! [t]http://i.imgur.com/lQLramK.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/YQqd2QF.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/wzg8LNa.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/XCBSaUh.jpg[/t] Big thanks to Yanzl for helping me with the process of making them!
Did the parallax shader get abandoned?
Did the parallax shader get abandoned?
As stated before, it makes things float off the brushwork so you get big gaps in the map. I've messaged 1/4 Life (the guy who had made them and implemented them for us) but he hasn't responded in almost 10 months now. So we won't be using it until we can get it fixed/remade.
Yeah because you guys loved the coastal greenery here...
That's a pretty bad example that shot is actually pretty okay
Yeah because you guys loved the coastal greenery here... [t]http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/16/15390/cm_11_11.jpg[/t]
Honestly the style doesn't look bad at all imo. Not sure if what FF is going for is exactly Half-Life, but I'd try and mimic it. The above looks like ass compared to the below.
Honestly the style doesn't look bad at all imo. Not sure if what FF is going for is exactly Half-Life, but I'd try and mimic it. The above looks like ass compared to the below.
Except for the fact that it looks like a forest with rivers instead of a coast.
I always thought fakefactory tried to mimic the Ep2 look into HL2.
Except for the fact that it looks like a forest with rivers instead of a coast.
I think the point is if it wasn't trying to be half-life, it'd actually be pretty damn good looking. But it is trying to be half life, and it's completely off the mark. But that's a bit off topic, and might stir up an argument. Maybe let's try to bring it back?
Point is, don't stray away from what Valve did too much. Don't make Ravenholm into a circus or anything.
Don't make Ravenholm into a circus or anything.
So tempting.
Enhancement mod confirmed for adding filth, corruption, hobos, gangs, and prostitution to C17.
Is this a Deus Ex mod now? :V
Except for the fact that it looks like a forest with rivers instead of a coast.
That's not even a coast, it's a wasteland reservoir (with no purpose, but that can be remedied). My biggest issue is probably not the drastic changes, but the fact that he added rolling hills where there should be an industrial park (not entirely his fault, valve didn't add it into the skybox either). [editline]4th October 2013[/editline] Honestly I can see why he changed it too. The change in art direction from HL2 - EP2 was kinda jarring. You work your way through the dead canals and struggling coast, only to end up in a lush green alpine forest, mere miles from the apparent wasteland. Supposedly the early concepts for EP2 were wasteland, but they were changed, probably because riding through a wasteland in a hunk of metal with wheels while being chased by an army doesn't exactly feel like victory.

Closer to the coast theen. It looks like Silent Hill :v:
Did you somehow forget about the dam??
You should be saying that to wauterboi, since he was saying it was part of the coast. (which it isn't, it is near Black Mesa East and the dam)
By coast I meant the jeep part. and I didn't mean adding that many evergreens, just enough to make is feel like there is something left. Also some large rocks.
Black Mesa East's dam should connect with the quarry Ravenholm had in the leak, if that place is being brought back as a secret area. In the leak the water just kind of stopped.

Maybe There could be some sort of visual ques far off in the skyboxes that somehow explain why the EP2 landscape is so damn healthy.

I can't help but marvel that one guy did all that, but I can't not cringe at some of the choices he made :s
I can't help but marvel that one guy did all that, but I can't not cringe at some of the choices he made :s
Indeed, that's a huge time sink. The first few FF mods were great for just updating the textures, play those if you want vanilla HL2 with better texture res, even though the characters still look arse with the lowpoly.
