like pigeon said, make the gunship slap the player in the face.
Why not a small pulse turret on the side?
rip Dropship 2: Enhancement Mod, it was good while it lasted.
I don't know why you all are pussyfooting around with any solution that's NOT the combine rappelling from the dropships. Give me a fucking break. Fuck the gun, fuck the deploy animation, just have the ship hover and drop them off. Maybe they can have a free shooting hand as they're coming down. Fuck it, who cares? Multiple other games have had the dropship dilemma and this is how all of them solved it, and it worked every fucking time.
Why are we talking about two dropships coming in at once? Why are we talking about contrived bullshit ways to cover up its shitty blind spot?
JUST HAVE THEM RAPPEL OUT OF THE FUCKING BOX, THAT'S ALL YOU NEED TO FUCKING DO.
Still missing the point. You can stand beside the dropship container and shoot combine in the back as they come out. They can't react at all and the turret can't hit you there. It's pretty broken.
There's actually a video of a guy doing that, I can't find it though.
Hey gaiz mayb we shuold get the combeens to use jetpaks!1!!
No gunships needed when they can FLY
I think you you should just eschew the animation all together, and have the soldiers spawn normally inside the container. Then they can just use their normal AI to walk out of the dropship without being completley defenseless. Though I'm not sure how you'd make the container so that npcs can traverse it as a normal surface.
This seems to be the best idea to me, maybe make the container solid by how gk99 suggested, or possibly an invisible brush that doesn't clip with the player or container to act a the floor when the soldiers spawn. Possibly get rid of the seats to give room for more?
What is keeping the player from throwing a grenade in, though?

the only thing worse than stupid posts are people complaining about stupid posts
can we stop talking about this and i don't know let the mod team take care of it themselves?
not to mention we have our own forums for actual content

I'd rather it not be fixed at all than to change it that much :v:
How about they don't come in from dropships at all
How about they don't come in from dropships at all
Let's make them pop out of crates like in HL1

Really WIP skylight prototype, since the glass windows being fully transparent looked bad; I tried to find a good middle ground.

I love you
it's exactly what I suggested and it's perfect
I like that viewbob.
I like that viewbob.
I've done a pretty good job of customizing my version of the game, the viewbob and everything is a bit different by default.

Seems that we only left a few of people who liked the original HL WON viewbob. We are becoming extinct.

I like it, but it's a bit annoying when aiming.

Very nice job! Also that skybox...just wow, it looks so awesome!
I agree with Corgi, that skybox and the Citadel look fucking great.

I dunno, I think it gives too much of a happy vibe.
I mean, It looks brilliant don't get me wrong, but I think it needs to look a little bit more, I hate to say it, gray.
I mean look at the original.

The sky has a dark and kinda depressing vibe to it. The sunlight just out of view, covered up by grey clouds. It's a fitting look for the first time you step outside, when you see the un-natural object that is the citadel, in front of an almost ill looking background.
ofcourse, I don't want to start a freaking debate over a skybox texture, but it's just what I think so whatever.
-stuff-
True it should be more cloudy and sullen, I was remarking more on how well executed it was. Compare Glitchvid's skybox to one in HL2, Glitch's makes everything feel more open and like there's actually more out there than what you see from the pretty confined levels, it's all to do with the way it was made I think.
I agree. The skybox looks goddamn gorgeous, but it's just a different feel from the vanilla one. The vanilla one looks like storm clouds are clearing after a night of rain or something. (Which you could see as a metaphor for the arrival of Gordon)
Well it's kind of depressing at first, but then there's a ray of hope is the vibe I get from it. Pasting clouds and then re-rendering it can't be too hard. We'll also adjust it for the original light settings.

Yeah, it's WIP; it's actually a total placeholder I made to test HDR skyboxes.

I'm pretty new at using a lot of the skybox programs, so it's pretty hard to get it looking quite right.
[t]http://static.glitchvid.com/facepunch/vgameandmods/images/hl2em/badrender.png[/t]
An earlier attempt at that exact same skybox, different angle though.
Well it looks pretty sweet and it could be used in a multiplayer level IMO.

It's placeholder, so it's got no LDR fallbacks, and it's unoptimized.
Anyway, I can imagine someone having a use for it so:
http://static.glitchvid.com/facepunch/vgameandmods/files/hl2em/gvid1st_sunnyskybox.7z
It should probably be based off the vanilla skybox, since there's that very specifically placed cloud that the citadel disappears into.
[editline]23rd October 2013[/editline]
Also make sure that it keeps HL2's color scheme. The sky's a mix of yellows and blues in that first C17 segment.

You should also look at some of the skyboxes in Dishonored, since it looked identical to HL2

Dishonored is more painterly than HL2, so dunno if it would be as much help as just looking at the orignal HL2 skyboxes and replicated them.
