Oh, I finally got off my butt and wrote stuff for some pictures I took of a texture from 1 1/2 months ago or so. Now it's a tutorial...have fun: How to Remake a Texture in High Quality I'll probably make a new, better one sometime if I can be bothered to remember.
Besides a small amount of spelling mistakes that's a great tutorial.
well now that tutorial is released, I could probably give a shot to help out. what texture folders haven't been touched yet? edit: tried remaking one of the wallpaper textures: [t]http://puu.sh/4Zzja.png[/t] [t]http://puu.sh/4Zzjv.png[/t]
edit: tried remaking one of the wallpaper textures:
Looks pretty good, but remove a few of the big scratches, they tile a little too much. Also, got a before and after pic to compare it with?
Looks pretty good, but remove a few of the big scratches, they tile a little too much. Also, got a before and after pic to compare it with?
there's lots of detail missing on my texture that could be added to the original, so I might add that later. for comparison new: [t]http://puu.sh/4ZAhl.png[/t] old(upscaled to 2048): [t]http://puu.sh/4ZAg1.png[/t] the bit above the wallpaper could be replaced, seeing as I'm pretty sure it's just part of one of the plaster ceiling textures.
I think that the extra detail to textures could be added with varied decals and a detail texture overlay instead, maybe that will reduce the tiling.... or make big ass textures to cover an entire surface without repeating.
[t]http://puu.sh/4ZAhl.png[/t]
That giant dark mark at top-center should be lightened up, it stands out as a tiling element in your screenshots. Maybe remove/replace the torn edges along the bottom too? Something about it doesn't seem right.

I added some detail, like some torn of wallpaper and subtle bulges, like on the original. I made them fewer in number and more subtle than the original for better tiling. better? [t]http://puu.sh/4ZCyW.png[/t] edit: i uploaded the wrong one whoops
I added some detail, like some torn of wallpaper and subtle bulges, like on the original. Also the top concrete and the bottom wood parts seem a bit blurry for that res, and the wallpaper (to make it more like the original) should have a little less contrast with a slightly more blue tint to it.

Would it be possible that when you shoot a Metropolice in the head their mask would come off and they would have a random citizen head?
Would it be possible that when you shoot a Metropolice in the head their mask would come off and they would have a random citizen head?
Why would a sealed mask just fly off like that? I could understand shot open, but not off. Either way, it's not all that good of an idea.
Why would a sealed mask just fly off like that? I could understand shot open, but not off. Either way, it's not all that good of an idea.
I'm not saying it should just fly off, but when Barney takes his off it looks pretty easy to open. I'm just saying that there could maybe be a change of shooting it off, like maybe a 5% chance. Of course it wouldn't just fly off the second you shot it once with a pistol or something, but maybe if you shot it with a .357 it would come off.
When Barney takes of his mask, he seems to loosen something in order to do that. Also, my point still stands that a mask doesn't just go off if you shot it. Helmets, yeah they can do that, masks, not so much.
IMO a low and random chance of the mask flying off would make things more interesting [editline]n[/editline] lol i guess not then
nevermind
Maybe if you hit the mask with a shotgun blast or with an explosive, it would break. And you see the bloody mess of what used to be someones face.
It would be nice if armour reacted a little bit more to gunshots and damage. Maybe not super-gory, just because it doesn't really fit HL2, but anything that isn't just a light spraying of red paintball paint.
Would it be possible that when you shoot a Metropolice in the head their mask would come off and they would have a random citizen head?
If that were to go into the mod, possibly make it have a very low chance of gibbing, like for example bits of the mask can come off. Although I would imagine the combine to design their masks to be pretty strong so stuff like that wouldn't happen.
Although I would imagine the combine to design their masks to be pretty strong so stuff like that wouldn't happen.
Well they must not do a good job though cause headshots still do more damage
Well they must not do a good job though cause headshots still do more damage
You can't really make a practical mask/helmet that can stop a bullet. Helmets are designed to protect from shrapnel, gas masks in the case of Combine protect the wearer from poisonous fumes, light physical impact, and conceal their identity.
Somewhat related: I would like to see some metrocop zombies in the streetwar levels that have part or all of their mask eaten away.
You can't really make a practical mask/helmet that can stop a bullet.
You can't make alien cyborg tripods with warp-cannon dicks, but that hasn't stopped the Combine. Because it's fiction.
Somewhat related: I would like to see some metrocop zombies in the streetwar levels that have part or all of their mask eaten away.
I can do that.
