What does everyone think of adding a range to weapons? (i.e. bullets are more deadly at different ranges)
Pretty sure we discussed this and it got disagreed and dumbed. Because all it'd do is drag on fights and waste ammo.
And even the longest ranges in all of the Half-Life series fall well within the effective range of a bullet.
What if it was for buffing purpose only? Like shooting someone at point blank would do extra damage, but distant ranges would pretty much be regular HL2 Then again that might make the weaker weapons a bit too powerful up close.

Things like this aren't really ENHANCEMENTS as they are just changing the game up.
about weapons, mr brightside just released a preview of his take on the smg looks nice, would also be cool to have cool smoke particles like those, but I don´t like how the clip gets thrown away, if it´s not empty, looks like a big waste of ammo
Still with the ridiculously designed picatinny rails.
about weapons, mr brightside just released a preview of his take on the smg
I know Gordon's a badass, but would a scientist be so confident as to flick out the magazine to the side like that?

Having a little exaggeration can make the guns feel more punchy and stylized but when he's flicking the gun that hard and going out of his way to fling the magazine out of the gun for absolutely no reason, I draw the line there.
Wait, I thought we already had an SMG model one or two threads ago?
Firing animations should always be exaggerated because they make your weapon more satisfying to use, but reload animations should not. That reload reminds me of something out of Blood Dragon almost
about weapons, mr brightside just released a preview of his take on the smg looks nice, would also be cool to have cool smoke particles like those, but I don´t like how the clip gets thrown away, if it´s not empty, looks like a big waste of ammo
The reload is a bit too flashy (and the shotgun kind of looks a bit stubby) but seeing HL2 stuff on new hands makes me think about how bad the default hands look. Especially when you get higher quality skins they don't fit at all with them. Speaking of which have there been any screenshots of this mod of the weapons with the new HEV hands that were made? Or have they not been rigged/animated yet?
fyi the reload animations are being redone with a 40-round magazine

Unless it looks crappy, that's the way we will go.
Speaking of which have there been any screenshots of this mod of the weapons with the new HEV hands that were made? Or have they not been rigged/animated yet?
Weapons and animations haven't been worked on much yet, we still need a player model of Gordon done up (because of what was stated before and above)- something Kwant was working on a while back.
I hope that works out well, games that have done that well, like FEAR, helped make the gameplay feel pretty fluid, and being able to see your shadow match up perfectly with what you were doing wasn't a bad touch either.
The player's shadow was the scariest thing in FEAR.

Especially when you get higher quality skins they don't fit at all with them.
The reason for the flashy animations is because he is trying to get a full reload in about 1.5 seconds. You kind of have to exaggerate them to get it to fit in the 1.5 seconds. The actual smg doesn't even have a clip. It's literally Gordon banging on the bottom of the gun to get more ammo.
Why not just the CoD style 'quick reload' where the magazine just drops out of the gun while Gordon reaches for a new one, then inserts the new one in the now empty space? [sp]now to get flamed for suggesting something that cod did[/sp]

couldn't you just re-code the SMG to take a longer reload animation? I know noting about modding source.
couldn't you just re-code the SMG to take a longer reload animation? I know noting about modding source.
Technically that should not be a problem but it would nerf the (already in many cases) weak SMG even more. I'm pretty sure many people here would not want to rebalance the weapons to avoid a desaster like Black Mesa's gunplay was (IMHO). EDIT: ninja'd
The reload looks way off.
in the SMG skin posted above, the author of the skin has said that they wish to remain within the original frame counts of the original SMG model. He is doing this so players can use the skins in Deathmatch without any disadvantages -- if the animations were longer than the originals, the player wouldn't be able to fire as immediately as players with no skins at all.
They would still be able to fire as soon as everyone else, it would just cut off the animation.
The player's shadow was the scariest thing in FEAR.
Even if it was realistic? Heck, I'd have to ask myself why the player's shadow was never cast. (Either Dr. Freeman is a vampire, or it was a limitation that even prevents Chell's from showing up)

(Either Dr. Freeman is a vampire, or it was a limitation that even prevents Chell's from showing up)
I'm not saying that I don't want the player to cast shadows, just that I was so used to not casting a shadow in games that sometimes it startled me, which is more than what I can say about the intended scares.
I guess this mod will use a full body system like far cry 3 did? but with lower body animated lol

Well it's not the worst it could be, considering you're not supposed to see it. It's not like Dead Island...
Hey guys, I remember that someone once posted some surround test for stereo 2.1 on youtube. Anyone still has that link?
For damage falloff for weapons I wouldn't be a fan of it personally, since I already effectively deal with it whenever I play HL2. I almost exclusively use the shotgun and crossbow and the shotgun already suffers at range.
