This is the worst thing ever. Mod is now dead good job guys. I really mean that, good job.
Yeah, as you speak the whole dev team is lining up against a firing range, we've all decided to commit mass suicide. Thanks to all your cat jokes.
This is the worst thing ever. Mod is now dead good job guys. I really mean that, good job.
It kinda is dead, isn't it? I mean it's now a year old, and according to corgi, they don't even have 5% of the maps or models done. I understand they all have their own lives, but after a year, you'd think a team with 7 mappers and modelers would have made more. If the mod actually is alive, I think it's safe to call it a vegetable.
they don't even have 5% of the maps
Yes because they can edit .vmfs they don't have, right?
Yes because they can edit .vmfs they don't have, right?
But there's an entire chapters worth of VMT's in the SDK
NEW W.I.P. PIC [t]http://i4.minus.com/ibmKJHpw2pNMlV.png[/t] So after a long while of not doing any mod work whatsoever due to life complications and uninterest I'm getting back into it. Early WIP pic of a new wall texture above.
It kinda is dead, isn't it? I mean it's now a year old, and according to corgi, they don't even have 5% of the maps or models done. But seriously, it's hard to get people to get things done on a regular basis when they have unexpected things come up in their lives a fair ammount of the time, exams, school, and many other things which always have to come first before mod work. Our modelers are skilled, but they also have a very limited time to work on these things, Snood alone is working on I think 4 different mod teams now, and our Mappers...well, one was going through a really rough time of his life (I won't elaborate for privacy reasons), one's been busy with usual life hum-drum, and a fair bit of the others have never even touched hammer since they joined so they're now off the team. Black Mesa is a good example of how long mods take, it took 7 years for a pretty large team to deliver a 3/4th finished product to the community. Now our mod is a lot less than what they did/are doing, but it still applies.
Do you at least have 1 map done?
Did they even start on the maps?
I think you all should do what I do when it comes to these things, Half-Life 3, and anything, really: Stop caring so much. I mean, this project is something to care about, but it's all for fun. There's no need to push so hard on the staff. None of you guys need this. It bothers me every time someone brings up time, "lack of progress", etc. Just let them do their thing, or hell, do what I did and try to come up with stuff for the mod yourself (I made a door texture!). Of course, this is one of those things that is restated constantly, but I don't see many people actually going along with it:
Do you at least have 1 map done?

Did they even start on the maps?

This is the worst thing ever. It's a good distraction.
Relax. Worst-case scenario is the mod dies out and that's not the worst thing to ever happen.
If the mod did die out, I'd release my own content from it: since I hate seeing work gone to waste.
I have started on the trainstation map, adding minor details here, adding extra geometry and models, and basically fleshing it out rather than overhauling it.
I'm currently learning subd modeling at the moment, which I'm hoping will give my end products some extra fidelity.
I'm currently learning subd modeling at the moment, which I'm hoping will give my end products some extra fidelity.
Yeah, subd and edge loops are fantastic.
So wake up Mister Freeman... Wake up and smell the awesomium... :P Also (if the menu would be accepted) the "user binaryrifle - mod tester" won't be there (it's only for intern mod testers)
So... wake up, mister Freeman... Wake up, and smell the Awesomium...
That seems a bit too wide, doesn't it?
didn't we already agree on a main menu design like...100 pages back?
didn't we already agree on a main menu design like...100 pages back?
i don't recall that
didn't we already agree on a main menu design like...100 pages back?
The design he posted is essentially the design they agreed on, but made much wider with some minor tweaks.
Do you at least have 1 map done?
Technically all of the maps are "done", as I understand some of them are just being revised or reworked to look nicer, make more logical sense, or for consistency reasons.
I mostly want the coast levels to be redone as well as water hazard, those maps are the only ones that don't look that good compared to the rest of the game. It's just very empty in some parts. (please keep the fog in the coast levels that have them)
I just want the coast maps to not be fullbright without HDR.
would a github be easier?
Github sucks. (I'm kidding, I'm kidding) In other news, I'm seeing about setting up Apache Bloodhound, and hooking that into the SVN bug tracking.
I just want the coast maps to not be fullbright without HDR.
I don't get why people dislike HDR. When it's done right, it's not too bad. The real thing to dislike are the people that make the sun explode with bloom, or when it looks like someone took the photo, blurred it, and set it overlay the game.
not just d sun [t]http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t131/Xavius_Claybourne/Half-Life%202/Episode%20Two/DogversusStrider.jpg[/t] valve really went overboard w hdr in that 1 map, d rest of d game looked fine
Are you Jamaican? :v:
Yeah, I've found that if you just leave the HDR to default settings and never touch the damn thing it functions way too much like a camera and less like a human being's eyes, and can often obscure everything in strangely dreamy blurry nonsense. However, ditching the entire thing looks terribly... old? I'm not sure what I'm trying to say in a general sense, but for me I feel it can be unimpressive and without immersion. [editline]1st January 2014[/editline]
Are you Jamaican? :v:
I totally didn't read the d's as the letters and totally recognized them as the word "the".
I don't get why people dislike HDR.
because
The real thing to dislike are the people that make the sun explode with bloom, or when it looks like someone took the photo, blurred it, and set it overlay the game.
which is how it was at the time, including in source games. It was a new gimmick, so developers exploited the fuck out of it. We're passed that now, so it's okay to tone it down a bit and try for something that actually looks good rather than "look at my new tech guys".
