Yes. How does it handle complex shapes though?
Would you be willing to upload it to Shapeways? They can print in metal and all sorts of shapes. Like this bastard [t]http://images1.sw-cdn.net/model/picture/674x501_287682_133625_1338413387.jpg[/t]
Extremely expensive for making fake 'volumetric' volumes.
True, you could then pull off func_smokevolume, which can be handled by a decent graphics card.
this and by the way, you all have the gravity gun. valve didn't put as much ammo around ravenholm/coast etc. because there's a lot of physics objects that can be very effective weapons if they're used with the gravgun
Just because the gravity gun exists doesn't mean the game should force the player to use it. I used it mainly for supply moving or knocking down turrets.
Yes. Depending on how much the model would need to be scaled, some small details on models may need to be removed, so it might be a better idea to use a lower poly version of the model we want printed
I actually used the gravity gun frequently, picking up nearby barrels as shields, sawblades on zombies, and catching Hunter flechettes especially. As it's own weapon though it's use isn't encouraged frequently. It'd be neat if there were situations where a clever player could set off some physics trap. But as far as I know the game doesn't actually have any.

I literally end up skipping the canal gate section after getting the airboat whenever I play these days. I collect the grenade from earlier on in the game and keep hold of it. Park airboat at gate, quicksave (in case gate hits me). Lob grenade over and blow up barrels and trigger the gate to get blown open. Completely voids the chopper and all those metrocops and all the hassle.
Or you can shoot the barrel with a pistol.
Saves about 80% of the effort. I saw someone speedrun it once and waste three grenades on it and I'm like "I can see the barrel on-screen, all you need is two bullets." As much as I like doing this, it's probably something that should be fixed.
Do you guys really want it to be fixed? it's not too difficult to do, just some repositioning of objects.
That would be disappointing, it's one of my favorite skips in HL2 but since it's not intended to be done like that then fixing it won't be a bad thing.
Do you guys really want it to be fixed? it's not too difficult to do, just some repositioning of objects.
Nah, it's fixed in games like Synergy where it's necessary, but in SP people will either not know about it, or do it; if you fix it it'll just get frustrating for 'em.
Nah, it's fixed in games like Synergy where it's necessary, but in SP people will either not know about it, or do it; if you fix it it'll just get frustrating for 'em.
yeah honestly I'd say keep it there for people that want to do it. if they want to skip the part in the game they'd probably just skip the level if you fixed it, so it's not like it's an issue for players that want to play that segment normally.
Then leave it, I guess. I gotta be honest, I don't know how to/where to go in that level because ever since I discovered the barrel I've had no reason to do it :v:
There's like two in the whole game. It would be cool to introduce more physics traps, I would totally welcome the addition.
I have some stuff I'm fixing that I'll post here when I get the chance
if you're talking about the barrel in that sort of weird prison/police-base looking thing where you have to open the huge metal gate so you can get through, i see no other way than blowing up the barrels was there another way to open the gate? or it also could be that i'm extremely wrong and i'm thinking about the wrong place
you can shoot the barrels from the water
i've played the game for like... i don't know how many times and i didn't notice that. that's what i call stupid.
I could 'explode' the model and give it to you to print in bits that you can assemble.
you don't need to..i can scale it specifically down to the mm so all that is really needed is to convert a model or two to a .stl file, is that doable?

Note in this example that errors are showing because I need to close any open edges I have on the model that would normally be there for optimisation purposes.
You should take this to PM's
You should take this to PM's
I know. I just thought people might be interested in the 3ds max functionality.
You should take this to PM's
Eh I don't see any harm, I like seeing what's going on about the 3D printing of the gravity gun, and it's not like it's not related to the mod. The model itself will be used in the mod. What's wrong with a little bit of this on the side of discussing the mod?
you can shoot the barrels from the water
Thanks! I didn't know this. I'm so used to building stuff with them and having that bit not-shoot-through-able with the toolgun I didn't realise it wasn't solid. Thankyou.
I know. I just thought people might be interested in the 3ds max functionality.
Indeed. What version are you using, by the way? The installer for 2011 has been telling me to suck a dick the past two hours.

Have you guys thought of increasing the amount of antlions that can spawn in the coast chapters? It felt too easy and the sandtraps are even easier since there's no actual punishment from just running on the ground all the way to the end.
Spawning with some kind of movement prediction might also help, so they'd constantly spawn in the player's way. I also like the idea of them being able to drag the player underground to insta-kill him, but that's probably a bit too punishing & too big of a change from the original. It might help to make sand more sand-like by having it be harder to run on than solid ground, but seeing as how bunny-hopping is viewed by the mod team, it seems unlikely.
