Lighting sure looks a less static than Source, but holy hell the foliage is ugly. Not all of it, but most of it really does not look good, especially since it has a very clear pattern, the trees, too, look really out of place, but that's probably because they're from L4D2.
Yeah, I noticed that too. AFTER writing, that is ... :v:
I'm just really glad we've gotten something new from Valve, even though it is leaked.
Isn't leaking Valve's official method of publication? :v:
Because it has hard edges at the bottom. Not saying that's an excuse, I agree it looks bad. Enhancement Mod will have better grass, right?
Will try $translucent is a soft transition, however, the sorting errors get on my nerves and only really work in areas with flat lighting. (also really soft) alphatest is better in this regard, but is as sharp as a knife. alphatest [t]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/612789213543074490/393EDC6CDEB09B4BB34BA1CB4764DE13DD766B6D/[/t] translucent [t]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/612789213529901699/90D0ADC4568AE24CB71A401F7B603B576B0E72F3/[/t] If we can make the grass the same color as the grass texture it's on, it won't stand out too much with alphatest. (hopefully)
it is late and unneeded in the thread
Half of the content of this thread is uneeded, and it was discussed 1 page before that post

(hopefully)
Is it expensive? How much will be used, like would it coat the Coast or just tiny patches of it? [editline]28th January 2014[/editline] Also what would be the fade distance? If it's less than 30 meters, it probably won't look good with it 'following' you. (I hope I'm not sounding picky)

(hopefully)
You should be able to make it a lot softer by using https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/$distancealpha with something like
$translucent 1 $distancealpha 1 $softedges 1 $edgesoftnessstart .1 $edgesoftnessend .25 $scaleedgesoftnessbasedonscreenres 1
On a semi-related not I got my trees to not look so aliased [t]http://cloud-3.steampowered.com/ugc/612789213576050084/35964B647C16B00A2ADBD90E5E1F0FC590695305/[/t]
We're now the #5 most popular game on Steam Greenlight !!!!!! Thank you everyone for your support and for voting! We will do our best to get this mod done in a timely manner for you all to enjoy. Expect some more texture content tomorrow or the next day- I've been starting to learn modeling on the side so it depends how much time I split between the two atm.
Your trees are looking bitchin right now.
Birchin*
Birchin*
Zing and all, but those aren't birches. Hashtag just saying. When do fluffy leafy trees appear in Half-Life? They're nice models and all, but the only trees I remember having green on them were the pine trees in Episode 2.

Maybe have dead leaves around it on the ground EDIT: This also gets me thinking, maybe the trees should look a bit rotted. I mean natural resources being stolen, pretty much all the plants within viewing distance of the citadel would be dead
Agreed. Maybe they should be a bit more bare, with brownish/blackish leaves. Maybe have dead leaves around it on the ground
It's posts like this that make me realize this isn't going to become another CM. It's a great refresher after a long day.
Do not fear I have more dead trees in the work that are more HL2 themed. [t]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/702860642434138651/C2946BC9C928B77D4803A5AA09ACA522EFADB054/[/t]
Aren't they bare / losing leaves due to the season that hl2 takes place in?
Aren't they bare / losing leaves due to the season that hl2 takes place in?
Nah, if you look throughout the game , combine is stealing resources. Also in ep2 it all looks quite lush, and the combine havent gotten to that area yet, so it's safe to assume its the combines doing. Also holy shit your tagline takes up a lot of room [editline]29th January 2014[/editline]
Do not fear I have more dead trees in the work that are more HL2 themed. It's rumoured that EP2 was originally the wasteland, but got changed because EP2 is supposed to be your moment of triumph, and trekking through a wasteland doesn't feel much like victory.

There are leaves scattered across the sidewalks in City 17, and they're still colorful, so they fell relatively recently.

There's still green grass in both the canals and coast, not to mention there are still leaves on the trees, which means they died relatively recently.

See how the trunks aren't cones at the bottom? Of course there are trees like that, but that's because of the roots and that cone effect only happens to the very bottm. Also, make the trees more asymetric. Look up photos of trees in the winter and copy them. [editline]30th January 2014[/editline]
Yeah, these were a bit old, I was planning on refining them and making them look better and realistic.
The last trees look like the logo of some black metal band
it would be cool to have a tree with leaves in a level you return to, and when you do, the leaves have fallen on the floor due to the bombing and shit. I'm not a good contributor.
