Pretty sure Valve says you're allowed to make Beta content as long as you don't use the original assets from the leak.

I'm pretty sure they just said you can't use source engine code from the leak, they didn't give a shit about the models, textures, or maps.

Random thought but have you considered a dead CP model that's missing his belt and vest? Like a looted version that could be scattered around the early - mid Street War levels? And as for the opposite, rebels without vests and such (seems weird that they [I]all[/I] were armed and armoured, when they outnumbered CP [I]and[/I] there were still CP's still alive and fighting). EP1 sorta did that, having rebels that didn't have CP gear.
Are you remodeling all the tiny little junk props like the cans/milk jugs?

Sticking some normal maps on them from a high poly bake would be nice.
I think they were retexturing them, but I don't know about remodeling.

I've been going over a few models and redefining the mesh a bit as well as adding geometry where it needs to be on a few meshes. Nothing uber high-poly, but good enough that it doesn't look like crap.

If you get a chance, can you guys look into the Water Hazard level with the Red Farmhouse and supplies? There's nothing wrong with the look of it, but EVERY platform I play HL2 on; there was always that "trademark" FPS drop after gliding around the corner to see GMAN and the farmhouse.
I decompiled the map, and most likely the fix would be to better optimize the areaportals and prop fade distances in that area

Would be better to actually remodel stuff from scratch, we'll have more control over the end result and we can keep things looking and feeling current gen rather than simply updating stuff from 2004 backwards.

Which part, the scanline/scandot one, or the faux-3d one?
because the 3D one is caused by them laying a ton of the same thing over and over ontop of eachother.
