I spoke to mr brightside and he´d actually like to join us, I asked him if he could do player and npc animations as we´ll have full body awareness for first person, he said he could try it out, with some guidance, he could make the anims we want.
He´ll be gone for some time for vacations though, but he will talk to us when he comes back
Teh snake also found the proposal to make models for us interesting, with the project being greenlit on steam, but hasn´t agreed yet, hopefully, he will.
Gamebanana squad is a go
eh, regarding the ar2 reload from earlier, the magazine is the whole thing, not just the side as seen in that prop ar2 someone showed.

We may need to take artistic liberty with it though to make the weapon interesting.

Teh Snake... Mr. Brightside... Screw it, this mod is confirmed best any year.
eh, trying again with the grenade chirp noise, is any version here good? trying to get this right serves well as practice to preserve styles.
DISCLAIMER: None of the skins and stuff are part of the mod

Eh, they're ok, I still prefer the original tick sound. I would say just improve the sounds that really need improving, and keep the rest the same.
As far as I know Valve did some additional mapping work in 2007 for the release of Orange Box, but released it only on the consoles. After that, in 2010 a huge HL2 update was released, which made the transition from 2004 Souce to 2007 Source, but the maps were left the same. Is that right? If it is, does anybody know whether there is a comparison between X360 HL2 maps and PC ones? It's interesting stuff

afaik they moved a couple medic and rebel npc's in c17

can´t blame me for trying, one day, ONE DAY...

I would definitely appreciate the source code or some snippets. Perhaps we could use this with the Source Shader Editior.

Do you realize how fucking ridiculous that request is?
You can't look at the HL2 sounds and objectively pick the ones that need to be better, because "better" in this case is 100% subjective.
Dude, just tell him which sounds not to touch. As a guy whose worked on the same type of mod for a game with just as many (or more) purists, I can tell you that this is the worst fucking job to have because no one wants you to do it. No one knows how to crit this kind of abstract shit too well, and whenever you get something you like, no one else does.
So like, yeah. Just define your boundaries as the project leader and have him work within them. I'd be good for everyone.
To be fair, these aren't footsteps or a simple gun cock, the combine grenade's chirp is pretty iconic at this point. There's no sound like it in the game, you know without even thinking as soon as you hear that 'chirp', you move away from it.
I really like all the gun sounds. They feel nice, but fit the original's style.
I kinda disliked the shotgun though. It didn't have enough of the higher pitched boom to it if you know what I mean.
I also never liked HL2's explosion sounds. They sound terrible. I feel they could use more boom rather than sticking to HL2's style imo.

I prefer a bassy shotgun sound because it sounds and feels more powerful. Like, compare the pistol to the 357.
[editline]17th February 2014[/editline]
Explosions, however, definitely need work.
i brought up the shotgun when he first showed us the sounds. i agree with stiffy, it doesn't have enough oomph to it.
it's plain is what it is, doesn't have any layers past a dull thud.
i admit that the audio quality of these might not be the best but these are the sounds i associate with a shotgun, it has the feel of actual projectile travel.

I'm fine with replacements, but they should be in the same general neighborhood as the sounds they are replaced. Like the SMG would have a higher pitch, sharp slightly rattly sound, and the AR2 would have a prominent 'clack'y sound, etc.
Pistol sound sucks though :v:

It's a simple matter of "don't fix what ain't broke".
HQ breathe.wav
HQ breathe.wav
In theory a lot of sounds were acquired from a soundbank, so it may be possible to find the uncompressed originals
I just hate that sound as a whole. It doesn't make sense - is he just blowing a whole bunch of air out to begin sprinting? How do you even make that sound?

My headcanon is that the suit's strength/speed/breathing enhancements are all done by air hydraulics
It explains that noise, why it needs to recharge and why sprinting+breath is tied together
Reminds me how the AK47 sounds in Counter-Strike were from an M14 off of some edition of Hollywood Edge.
HQ breathe.wav
That reminded me that I cleaned the original breathe sound long, long ago
would this do?

I´ve cleaned some of the other classic hl1 ambience sounds so now they are smooth

I think they are from some paid stock sound library. I'm only guessing because I heard a wooden break sound from man of steel that I had heard before in half life 2.
^hooow did sterlock do that
It's a simple matter of "don't fix what ain't broke".
Some would argue that nothing about HL2 is broken and this whole mod is an exercise in futility.
Others would argue that everything about HL2 is broken and this mod is weak shit because it doesn't change enough.
It's not a simple matter at all, dude. Not at all. I think that might be the source of your problem as a person in this thread, SirLemon. You don't seem to be able to separate objectivity and subjectivity, and you sure as hell don't seem to be able to see issues from another's point of view. Are you aware that these guys don't know exactly what you want? Are you aware that you don't know (or do you even take into account) what THEY want?
Maybe Sterlock doesn't fucking like the original grenade chirp, as iconic as it is. Maybe he feels he does need to tweak it despite the objection of the majority of the people in the thread. Did anyone ask what he thinks? No.
Yeah, he's doing this as a service to all of you, but at his own digression. I'm just saying. Go easy on these guys. They don't know exactly what everyone wants, and you... well, I'm sure most of you are flat out refusing to understand what they might want.

God, every foley sound in HL2 I've heard dozens of times before the game came out and hundreds after. All those metal impacts. Fucking hell, it's actually kinda tiring.
I think they are from some paid stock sound library. I'm only guessing because I heard a wooden break sound from man of steel that I had heard before in half life 2.
Yes they are, you will find them in their original quality and full glory inside of the sound ideas packages, which are paid.
^
Eh, it´s mostly noise removal, but also raising frequency so it´s not muffled, and restoring the quality to 16 bits, the original 8 bits valve insisted on using in hl1 is what causes distortion.
About my attemps with the nade sound, is not that I don´t like it, I just that I want to have my own take on it, and be able to equal it, that will serve me in the future for similar projects

The mods purpose is to bring HL2 up to modern standards, isnt it?. Textures are outdated, fix em up. Models are outdated, fix em up. But I think it would make more sense to replaces things for the sake of updating the game then to just replace it for the sake of replacing it. Also if you wanna know what I want, it's this: Half life 2 with improved graphics, AI, etc, but to still keep the things that make it feel like half-life 2. Take for example the cinematic mod, they changed the headcrab sound to one from aliens. It was a very high quality sound clip, it felt fitting for an alien parasite, but it didn't feel like HL2. (I'm not comparing this to CM, this mod seems to have it's shit together a bit more than that)
People keep acting like I'm intentionally trying to piss people off, really I'm just giving my honest opinions, sorry if you don't like them. If you'd prefer I just piss off just say so.

btw, I almost forgot, is strelok, not sterlock lol
oh and here are some of the other cleaned samples for nostalgia

I just want you to understand that they've taken it upon themselves to fill in the blanks left by the tech of the generation, and every individual has their own strong idea of what goes in those blanks. You don't just make a bigger texture without adding something someone didn't expect or want. Likewise with eeeeverything else.
