you don't know what's going on BTS so stop making premature assumptions that the team isn't "organized" unless you know for a fact it is
which you probably don't
clear strelok is doing stuff on his own free will to contribute to the mod, no one is forcing him.

In all fairness, mod's been in progress for a year and still not much to show for it besides some (admittedly well made) world textures, a gravity gun, a ton of SMGs, HD faces, a few misc props here and there, a lot of promising models that never seem to have been finished, some concept sketches that haven't seem to have gone any further that just sketches, 3D windows, and a few dozen pages of arguments regarding a few background props that players don't even look at for more than few seconds, and an engine port.
I'm sorry I'm sounding like a bit of an asshole right now, but with like 18 people working on it (not counting testers), you'd think you'd see a bit more than that. And yeah, you could say "but they have real lives, they can't work on the mod a lot", but then that begs the question, why work on a mod if life says there's no time for it.
Anyways, I'm probably gonna be scolded harshly for this little rant of mine anyways, so I think I'll just head off for the night and count all the dumb/disagree stamps I got in the morning.

what happened to the much-bollyhooed odessa praiser we used to know. he had an avatar and everything, but it seems he went soft.

Mods are work, revising whole texture sets takes lot of sourcing and artistic talent. Getting things sorted on other fronts (Website, Steam, etc) also consumes effort. The only 'real' "problem" right now is that we don't have any modelers really committing anything: we get a few screenshots then they sort of disappear.

Honestly I think half the team members aren't even available anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if there's at least one that doesn't know he's listed as part of this project.

I think his concern is that the progress is too slow. Which may or may not be true, since the mod devs don't showcase every little shit they've made for the mod. SirLemon, you always fail to realize this.
Honestly, is anybody actually thinking they can finish this? When there's so much (unshown?) progress and when everyone's focus is centered on tiny props? It's gonna end up just like any other similar mod out there.
I'm sure they can finish it, I'm just not expecting it to be soon done.

How is not showing every little shred of content we make going to effect if the mod gets finished or not? Sure it's nice to see content, but do you really want to see every single piece that gets done which would then somewhat ruin the final outcome of the mod?
The community is who's focused on tiny props, I assure you, the mod team is in no way focused on such trivial pursuits as working on one small prop for 3 weeks when it really takes just a few days.
"It's gonna end up just like any other similar mod out there." Think of Black Mesa- how long did it take them to release? Seven years? Now I hope that we don't end up taking that long, but you have to remember, everyone has a life, events happen in that life that can change how much time you have to spend on things like modding or other hobbies, this mod will get done, just maybe not in the next year or two. Now it is true that some of the mod team I haven't heard from in a long while, to be frank I would love it if people were to just be open and contact me on a regular basis even if it's just to say "yeah, I won't be able to work on the mod for a little while" or the like. It would be good just for them to contact me every once in a while instead of me trying to find when they're online to talk to them, or send a PM they sometimes never respond to.
The main things this mod is suffering from is motivation, time, and people. We sorely need more modelers, mappers, and the like- I just ask again, if anyone here is a mapper, a modeler, a shader or particle artist, and are interested in this mod, please do not hesitate to contact me or Ken.

I just post a few of my nearly finished works in the thread because It can't hurt to show some stuff and because there's always really noticeable errors I could have missed. But I certainly didn't expected 80% of the stuff I showed to be ignored in favor of keypads or watermelons which take me at most an hour to finish but that are still being discussed for days. I'm just trying to give a hand here. (By the way I have a set of about 25 textures that I'll send you soon if it doesn't bother you. Just have to made a few more changes to the .vmt)
Anyway, I'm currently working on the air duct textures:

Thé rusted and damaged versions are pretty much finished. Now I juste the most common variant to finishs. Still a heavy WIP of course.

No no I didn't mean that you were obsessing over small things, I mean the bulk of the community of posters are. Basically now whenever someone posts any sort of content it's picked apart into as many little pieces as possible and examined and criticised at every angle and detail for several pages, especially over the most minor things.
Cool, I look forwards to seeing those textures.

Also, I've made some progress on that air duct. It should be more close to the vanilla brightness now:

I think a normal may be needed with this one though.
Guys, have you got the new effect of reaction after gordon got damaged/shot? here is a good example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXwu6CEoAkk&list=PLDAF4CDD2C8830258. The old effect is kinda a bit old

Maybe you guys should do a finished room with new textures, props, brushwork and everything. Just to set a point on the look you are trying to achieve in the finished mod.
Sure it's nice to see content, but do you really want to see every single piece that gets done which would then somewhat ruin the final outcome of the mod?
Well, yeah. You're not completely remaking an entire game from brush one like Black Mesa, you're building on top of an existing game that everyone beat ten years ago and making it look prettier (Like Cinematic Mod, except something resembling competent). Spoilers aren't exactly a concern here when the spoilers are "stuff'll look nicer and you can see your feet".
A more open development process would both keep fans engaged and developers motivated due to a continued flow of new stuff and feedback respectively, but would also ensure that the work that's done won't vanish into the ether should everything explode in a fireball of drama as has happened repeatedly with the various HL2 Beta restoration/remake efforts.

so impressive! :D
I vote you remake the train station
I vote the Lost Coast demo gets done.
I vote the Lost Coast demo gets done.
I think Ken already ported that for his Rebel Stories mod
Getting the train station done (and maybe the first outdoor area) makes more sense than lost coast as a demo
Lost coast is almost entirely new models and textures that can't be reused anywhere in HL2

I wouldn't take it as a bad thing. Think of it like this: You don't post everything you make, so most of it isn't known to the community. What is known is essentially thrown in the spotlight, being the only content they see. Since they're looking at 1 thing and not 10, they're much more likely to give their feedback on that particular item instead of a broad "Those all look great" or similar. Thus you get nit-picks that are unbelievably nit-picky. Not saying you need to post bulk images or stop posting items for us, but that's just how it goes. I don't think it's a bad thing, it's more silly than anything else. I don't think it actually hurts the progress of the mod, and some of those discussions (like the SMG1 or Metrocop fiasco) would have happened anyway.
I vote you remake the train station
They actually did post a couple changes to the Train Station awhile back.
Uh, I missed something, what is this about lost coast you´re talking about?
Uh, I missed something, what is this about lost coast you´re talking about?
Many pages back there was discussion of an iirc engine demo where Lost Coast was ported over to the HL2:EM modded engine.
I think Train Station would be a better demo, because the resources for Train Station are going to be completed regardless, while Lost Coast would require new resources that may not necessarily be used elsewhere.
Then again, if they did LC, they'd be able to use those assets on Highway 17 (it always irked me that Valve made so many boat models for LC and never used them in HL2). Actually awhile back I suggested they take the boat models from LC and use them in the Coast for variety. HL2 only has 2 ship models and 3-4 boat models, LC alone has enough to double that.
I'm still working on the train station. So far it's mostly lighting, and minor details. I'm not going too crazy with it as valve did a good job with it anyways, and I'm trying not to detract too much from gameplay.
I will be adding extra rooms you can look into, but I'm not gonna super detail areas you can never get to.
