I hope so. Firing a big gun with one hand should be hard enough for any man.
the AR2 is probably made of super-advanced polymers and shit and Gordon is pretty fuckin strong, so he could probably one-hand it if he had to. it would just be wildly inaccurate and totally pointless
Perhaps we could have an animation that plays every so often, that depicts gordon taking out the magazine, and putting a new one in.
How about for the AR2 we have it so the reload is like the normal animation, but then if you used up all your AR2 ammo, and pick up a new clip, you'll actually drop the old one, and clip the new one in?
See the problem with the AR2 is that the ammo system makes no sense during gameplay. Currently, your maximum ammo is about one full AR2 magazine. The Magazine holds several 'pellets' that offer 30 pulses each. When a pellet is finished, the next one is autoloaded. We pick up full magazines but get less than one pellet's worth from them. Anything we pick up just gets added to our ammo pool, and we never actually reload the external magazine. I'd imagine making it play a full magazine reload after depleting all sub-magazines would be very hard to code, if possible at all. That's the dilemma with the AR2.
I mentioned way way back in the first thread, I'd like to see the AR2 reload animation completely reworked. Have the magazine's robot arm load a new round for every shot, and shove a new mag in when it's depleted. The little arm would basically be a blur, but it would look awesome. (It would be a good demonstration of the combine's advanced tech too).

I feel like maybe it looks the way it does because it was built originally to be belt fed or something.
I have followed this thread for a couple of months and I have one question. Will the source code be released so that other modders can use it to make their mods more spectacular?
I used to use this AR2 for hl2dm years ago, two handed and manual reload http://hl2.gamebanana.com/skins/8251 maybe could make something like this
What if the AR2 worked like a machine gun and each pellet is one pulse. Fire one and the next is loaded in. Then reload you replace the whole magazine. Would have some really badass-looking fast-moving mechanical shit. Also eject used pellets out the other side.

As all of you may know, the AR2 was supposed to be the Incendiary Rifle, its model makes more sense on the irifle because every pellet was an flare, then he would reload that magazine when he ran out of pellets (flares in the case). Hope that explains it well.
Yeah, we know. The problem is finding out how to remake it so that it makes the most sense.

To send a distress signal they blitzed an entire citadel, they simply use what a world has to offer, rather than build from the ground up, they waste cities with headcrab rockets, even their buildings seem sort of organic. I was always given the impression that the citadel sort of grew, given all the pathways leading to nowhere and exposed mechanics. With the resources of several dimensions at their disposal they simply don't need to bother being efficient, which is slightly terrifying. Anyway, the arm's only a tiny thing, it wouldn't need too much energy. Given that we're developing super capacitors, the combine would inevitably have something far superior. The arm is also part of the magazine, it just gets ditched after X shots.
The Combine are weird. They have computers that can fit in our bodies, yet their terminals are the size of a 60's era Computer.
though your post is around 2 pages back, and everyones possibly done talking about the smg1, why doesn't your gun get released as an optional skin along with kwants? it seemed that there was around as much people who wanted juniez's model.
ha i'm kidding http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1250308&p=40576511&viewfull=1#post40576511 i'm going to try and make the rest of em and get them reanimated but for obvious reasons i wont be showing them off in here anymor
Wow that actually looks fucking cool. Makes more sense than the current reload animation too. If we had that where to reload you remove the whole mag, I certainly wouldn't complain! Definitely makes the gun look far more alien and advanced too.
Will it have one-handed or two-handed animations?
If gordon holds the ar2 by the clip, I will kill all of you. I absolutely hate it when skinmakers have him hold it with that awkward clip pinch.
Yeah... One of my favorite guns is the PPSH-41, but nearly ever game I see it in, they hold it by the mag. Looks so uncomfortable to me.
Generally it's not a good idea to hold a weapon by the magazine, but instead treat it like a rifle. Games with PPSH-41s (71-round drum magazine in particular), MP-40s, and Stens just rile me up when held by the magazine. This is a more proper stance like with modern rifles. It's not the magazine being held, but rather supported by the upper receiver and hand.
Wow, i didnt knew it would actually make sense! Awesome animation!
It's not an animation... It's the end of the reload looped in PS.
It's not an animation... It's the end of the reload looped in PS.
That still makes it an animation
We did the AR2 like this in Gmod
Well I guess with the one-armed Hev, it would be a nice touch to have the second arm just hang off the rifle like that.

It doesn't seem like it would be supportive at all with the gun's front-heavy looking design though.
Got some work done on my crossbow, I finished my LP made the changes that was requested like the bolt and the battery. I'm ready to unwrap. [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/118716000/Crossbow_Show_LP.jpg[/t] [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/118716000/Crossbow_Show_HP.jpg[/t]
