You do realize that things are worked on outside of thread discussion, right? This is literally just where things are posted for criticism and direction, not an indicator of progress or quality of the actual mod.

Loving the progress you guys are making with this, can't wait to see more.
One thing I would like to suggest when you're working on improving the maps is skybox transitions.
If there is one thing Cinematic mod got right is improving the way the maps look without modifying the gameplay (in most cases)

Yeah, some of FF's maps are good, but some of them he takes too many liberties with (making the coast into a forest). I haven't played any of FF's maps, as I am put off by a number of his infamous character replacements. I tried FF once, stopped after Ravenholm when I got there and realised he replaced the fast zombie with a naked vampire lady (which apparently was released completely by accident, makes you wonder what else he has on his own private copy).
The newest cinematic mod light edition really isn't so bad (if you ignore the horrible brute forced 'HD' models and textures that make it 100% unstable at the best of times). One thing that still shits me to no end is that all of the graffiti has now been replaced with pornography and really dirty comments... it's so unfitting, it's almost worse than the character models.
But his skyboxes are fantastic. They make you feel more like you're in an actual run down city as opposed to a neatly contained little warzone in a quaint east-european village town or something. I've never had an issue with his skyboxes, and if Valve can't seem to stop completely breaking the original ones they made, then something simply must be done about it.
But, you know, don't copy FF's skyboxes or anything, damn.

i never really got why exactly FF would even want to go anywhere near Half Life after all that time spent "working" on it. i guess those awful zombie stripper models he's got must genuinely have him coming back for more

I think these look nice, they definitely look more 'organic' than the vanilla ones because the level geometry isn't so blocky and there's more stuff covering up any geometry that might look more unsightly
fakefactory's maps genuinely play worse though; I've completed the game with cinematic mod and there's visual cues as to where to go or what to do which valve are insanely good at that fakefactory just utterly misses in favour of adding tons of new clutter.
Editing the level geometry so it isn't so obviously blocky and adding extra furniture to the levels where it makes sense, i.e. where you think valve would have put it if they weren't working with hardware limits from 2004 seems the best course of action

It's like FF has potential and he could make/steal/whatever he does now some good shit with some fine tuning, but the defining aspect of his character is comically missing the point.
Maybe someone should bite the bullet and run through FF taking notes of all the things he did [I]right[/I] so we can do them better :v:

People above were saying how the destroyed landscape is an improvement. Does this mean we cannot make a destroyed landscape because it would be too much like FF? No, it doesn't, and I hope the team isn't thinking that way either.
Just because FF did it doesn't mean it's 'tainted' and we cannot. If there is something done right, that doesn't mean we need to change our ways because it was done by someone we don't like.

TBH I like FF's map edits, it's just his lighting is quite bad. Also some of his models are complete crud like the trees.
I'm going for a pseudo fakefactory look, with things looking less blocky, and more organic, but keeping the original atmosphere and making the visuals less cluttered. I mean when you have crap tons of debris everywhere, then the screen is cluttered.
I'm gonna make things a "clean" mess.
Just keep away from placing lush green trees everywhere and you're safe.

You guys can do a lot of cool stuff with particles and fog in the alien swarm version of source
particle fog helps a lot with giving volume to a map
