Also there's the red and yellow "Contaminated Area" radiation signs the rebels put up around the Ravenholm entrance. Where would they find such signs if not inside a fallout shelter that they happen to inhabit? :v: (even though the signs are American and not Soviet, but that goes for a lot of textures in the game) [editline]4th May 2014[/editline] Maybe I'm seeing what I want to see, but imo it all just makes way too much sense for it to be a fallout shelter rather than an usually large dam facility.
Doubt it. Gman isn't public transporter. Boat sounds more logical to me. I don't think Combine would allow humans use airplanes.
Well I'm not saying he threw on his sailor suit and took them there on his interdimensional yacht, but he seems to have a tendency to "manipulate" the world to his advantage. And perhaps arranging a number of Black Mesa personnel to end up in C17 is to his advantage. Though I'm not sure if we're debating how they got there or how they got there.
24 posts. I expected progress. Instead I got an argument over whether Black Mesa East is a dam or a fallout shelter.

I would bring up some awful game mechanic but that only causes huge shitstorms.
I would bring up some awful game mechanic but that only causes huge shitstorms.
This? This is not helping at all, and is actually even less productive than the argument you so clearly were against. Ironic, isn't it?
I would bring up some awful game mechanic but that only causes huge shitstorms.
go ahead and say it anyway, might risk derailing the thread (again) but eh.
Let's not start a huge shitstorm.
Let's not start a huge shitstorm.
then don't fucking bring it up
It would be nice if someone would Email Marc Laidlaw about what the facility used to be.
Dude, this was over 10 years ago and I don't really think they were overanalyzing the previous purpose of the BME, they probably told their mappers to create a map that looks like this and that. It's really fun to see how you guys analyze the slightest detail on each map, like a radiation decal that was put in place not to confuse the (back then mainly English) fans.
So Corgi, can my "HECU helmets on rebels" argument be accepted now that everyone is aware of resistance smuggling and the founding of Black Mesa East?
those concepts are great but i don't see why they have to be specifically HECU helmets.
those concepts are great but i don't see why they have to be specifically HECU helmets.
That's most definitely an HECU helmet. It makes sense as some Resistance members were HECU, anyway.
Sorry, didn't read all 5 threads, but what's the consensus on re-adding the Hydra?
Sorry, didn't read all 5 threads, but what's the consensus on re-adding the Hydra?
They're not adding beta content in, but recreating the design of the game using concepts from development.
That's most definitely an HECU helmet. It makes sense as some Resistance members were HECU, anyway.
yes, but it's really just a green PASGT helmet. my point is that it wouldn't really matter what unit it was originally used by, so it may as well be a generic nondescript kevlar helmet in the mod [editline].[/editline] also, where did you get that last thing from? i don't remember seeing ex-HECU resistance members in hl2
Sorry, didn't read all 5 threads, but what's the consensus on re-adding the Hydra?
It would break up the pacing the on-foot parts of the canals have.
as a random lurker, i think hecu helmets would be cool
It would break up the pacing the on-foot parts of the canals have.
Hydras'd also be impossible to fight, with that snakespeed stab leaving players confused about what they're taking on... But of course, it was stated the hydras'd be nice to see anytime in the future.
I guess if you really wanted to add the Hydra in you could just have it as something that appeared for only a brief moment down a hidden tunnel in an easter-egg manner. But apart from having it that way it's pretty pointless.

But apart from having it that way it's pretty pointless.
It's still pointless. It's creating an HD model, textures, animations from scratch, just for the sake of a "brief easter egg" down an obscure hidden tunnel... for the sole purpose of being a cool reference/pleasing Hydra fanboys, I guess.
Soviet helmets would work better. Following the Ukrainian conflict, I have no doubts that they're in abundance, I've seen loads of them used by nationalists and separatists, old camouflage too.
For a easter egg there could be a gated tunnel which you can hear the sound of clanging from the green tentacle in the rocket propulsion test chamber in Half-Life and maybe even its shadow.

Is somebubaone making an Odessa joke without me??
Is somebubaone making an Odessa joke without me??
Nope. If you're talking about the crossbow thing I am entirely serious. If it wasn't such a travesty since I never got around to fixing the texture I'd show you it.
For a easter egg there could be a gated tunnel which you can hear the sound of clanging from the green tentacle in the rocket propulsion test chamber in Half-Life and maybe even its shadow.
Half Life Enhancement Mod: Easter Eggs at Every Corner. Seriously, easter eggs aren't very important to the overall enhancement of Half Life 2. These references to the first game/the beta down some tunnel are getting a little old.
Throw 'em in at the last second. They aren't important enough to enhancement.
When you think about it, the dam doesn't really make sense. Several characters repeatedly call it a hydroelectric dam, thus inferring power generation, but the lake is way too shallow to hold any substantial amount of water for turning a turbine. Hell, there aren't any turbines to be seen in the first place. If you compare it to the Black Mesa Research Facility dam, then it becomes even more obvious. In my opinion, it looks more like a reservoir than a dam. Maybe it is a front for Black Mesa East being a fallout shelter after all.
