i like how it looks on the AR2 because it's a strange alien weapon and they can be more stylish with it, but other than that i think the effect is far too strong. it looks more like you're shooting ropey strands of evaporating goo than an actual gunshot.
Quick questions:
1. Are any actual gameplay-based changes being made to the weapons? Some of them lack versatility in later chapters, and only really see use when alternatives are low on ammo (although thinking it over, it is mainly just the pistol, and even then it's still useful for limited non-projectile sniping)
2. What is the stance of the Ichy? I know that the devs aren't trying to recreate HL2 beta content - but I suppose since they are already coded to act as border control / as hostiles in general, would it be easy to just dump them in cliffside waters? Since just falling into the water and dying instantly is a bit weird, and you're going to die anyway. And since it'll be low-lighting conditions, probably wont be necessary to remake the model. Win/win situation, but the devs know more than I do on the subject

Most of the heights that kill you from that would genuinely kill you in real life, water acts like a wall of bricks if hit when going fast enough.

The Ichthyosaur was cut for a very simple reason.
Play testers would swim out and because it would take so long for the Ichthyosaur to come attack them they would get frustrated when it killed them seconds later and couldn't understand why they were dying, what they were doing wrong and why they couldn't swim out.
So they replaced it with the leeches that attack quickly, viciously and the damage scales rapidly so you learn the lesson.

It probably would have taken a while too.

why would the dying part be hardcoded to a timer? that makes no sense
why wouldn't it be a regular npc (that dynamically spawns and despawns in a volume) like normal?
at the beginning of water hazzard there is a pond with a ramp that you have to lift using hollow blue barrels, when I first played the game, I was so terrified to go into that water because it was dark and I saw bubbles coming from the bottom, after my experience with itchyosaurs in hl1, I though I was gonna encounter one in there, it was so creepy.

Yeah if anything, we should just move the "trigger hurt" to ontop of the coast water and make it do 300dmg or something, so hitting the water makes you splat.

I think a lot of games actually share that little law of gaming physics. When ever I have to jump from a significant height I look for a puddle of water to land in because I expect to take no damage.
