Good Job, you have created something more satisfying then bubble wrap.
I just had a revelation because of this post. The SMG's firing sounds should be replaced with the sound of bubble wrap popping.
I just had a revelation because of this post. The SMG's firing sounds should be replaced with the sound of bubble wrap popping.
Better yet, make EVERY sound bubble wrap popping, but at different pitches and speeds.
Better yet, make EVERY sound bubble wrap popping, but at different pitches and speeds.
Now I imagine somebody throwing a prop through a window, and instead of that window shattering it just pops.
Someone please make a resource pack for HL2 that does that.
But what sound would popping bubble wrap make? A medkit sound?
But what sound would popping bubble wrap make? A medkit sound?
An exploding grenade.
Or just invert all sounds based on volume, like a cup hitting a soft surface is like a exploding nuclear warhead or something, and turn a exploding grenade into some small fizzle, or a exploding capacitor. [editline]13th June 2014[/editline] Actually, no. A grenade must has got to be popping bubblewrap.
I find the worst aural experience to be loud noises panned completely either left or right and given cut-off or adding sounds on top with cut-off. The mod team can seek inspiration in this song. Headphones are recommended.
Cause' the point of this mod is improving (changing) Half-Life?
Not all changes are improvements, but all improvements are changes.
Not all changes are improvements, but all improvements are changes.
Well said.
Not all changes are improvements, but all improvements are changes.
All "improvements" are relative to what different people consider "improving." It could be argued turning the game into Checkerboard Heroes is "improving" it.
Are you guys also redoing the weapon animations? Because in my opinion the vanilla ones are pretty meh and something like this would be soo much more satisfying:

I could see that getting annoying tbh.
Does he have to pull back the slide every time he equips it? I could see that getting annoying tbh.
Perhaps only play it when you were equipping a different weapon before? Pulling the slide just after holding an object for one second seems a bit unnecessary.
You could make it the animation that plays when he first picks it up, like the suit hands.
Yes, the weapons will all be re-animated, as well as remodeled, and probably have a better skeleton as well.
You could make it the animation that plays when he first picks it up, like the suit hands.
That'd be good but personally I'd prefer if it popped up every now and then. Would feel cool selecting it at the beginning of a big gunfight and have him pull the slide like that.
I think HL2 was really good with gun slides, like how the shotgun only gets pumped after firing. Only thing I can think was wrong is how the pistol automatically retracts when you're reloading. Is it possible to have two animations? One for reloading from empty (Slide stays retracted, releases after loading) and one for half-empty (Slide stays still) [editline]15th June 2014[/editline] Something I did always love once I noticed HL2 did it [vid]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10437436/videos/hl2%202014-06-15%2004-30-04-324.webm[/vid] The shotgun still gets cocked if you switch before it can happen

Maybe that's why the animation does play after a double switch, because the game remembers that it hasn't played yet?
But isn't shooting and cocking two different animations? Maybe that's why the animation does play after a double switch, because the game remembers that it hasn't played yet?
Or maybe it was programmed this way intentionally?
Is being a condescending ass really necessary?

Because in my opinion the vanilla ones are pretty meh and something like this would be soo much more satisfying:
One thing that bothers me with a lot of weapons animations today is the way they just sway the weapons. Weapons are usually handled pretty stiffly, not like they're just something casual, even if it is Gordon Freeman. I could understand the swaying if it was some kind of super action star, but it's really not supposed to be.

[editline]14th June 2014[/editline]
One thing that bothers me with a lot of weapons animations today is the way they just sway the weapons.
Do you mean the inertia effect when you yaw your character? Because if that's what you mean, I couldn't agree more.

It just look so bulky and unnecessary.
realistically speaking, it fires .45 acp which is a huge round so you'd need both hands to steady it properly.
I just don't like the way 2-handed looks on that gun. It just look so bulky and unnecessary.
I kind of like it. If it didn't have the inertia effect then it would feel very... stable.
realistically speaking, it fires .45 acp which is a huge round so you'd need both hands to steady it properly.
In the game it's heavily implied that the USP is some kind of bastardized 9mm version
I kind of like it. If it didn't have the inertia effect then it would feel very... stable.
The inertia never really bothered me. However, why is he always pointing his gun even outside of a fight? Is it possible to change this?
I don't blame him. In the world in which they live, if you're not in the pre-uprising city17 (or another reclaimed city), you never know what could be lurking around any given corner.
