What if all of the weapons are just hybrid weapons that look similar to their real life counterparts, but have completely different functions because of technology and "creativity".

A lot of valve's textures come from pictures. They don't even bother cropping off the picture for some of them. I think they have better artists now though.

I don't think it was bad artistry. It was a different time; you didn't need to hand-create everything cause who the fuck can tell the difference at that resolution anyway?
So I've been lurking for a while. Is there ever any actual progress made on the modification or do you guys just talk about "what should be in the mod" and then forget about it?
In that vein of useless things the mod makers will never implement, I say that the SMG's secondary fire should be a shotgun shell instead of a grenade, and the Shotgun's secondary fire should be semi-auto fire in exchange for a loss of accuracy ala SMOD.
What images did valve use? I'm curious now.

There is a drain pipe decal taken directly off of CGTextures, quite a few others too. I mean if you use CGT as a reference or use it for base stuff it's fine, but the whole damn thing was used by Valve.

The loading tube thing I hear a lot, but trust me, they know it's a loading tube, not a second barrel. Someone would have pointed it out at some point while modeling, texturing or animating it. Hell, the alt-fire sound effect in the HL2 leak is clearly two sequential firing sounds. If the hud tip said "fire two barrels" instead of "fire both barrels" this probably wouldn't be such a common complaint.
If anything, why not suggest the Shotgun's primary fire be semi-automatic with an accuracy trade-off & remove the alt-fire entirely? The problem is, the biggest drawback to the shotgun is it's slow, so making it (or the magnum) semi-automatic removes one of its biggest weaknesses & increases one of its biggest strengths; DPS. Yeah, there would be an accuracy trade-off, but that's entirely under player control.
I'm not saying making the shotgun semi-automatic is a bad idea. Some time ago I even thought of putting it in the mod I wanted to do but there's a lot to consider when balancing weapons, but is it really worth possibly pissing people off with unnecessary changes & doing all that balancing work just for a tiny bit of added realism?
