why not suggest real enhancements
like reverting the jeep physics back to old hl2 instead of the broken orangebox clownery
What's exactly wrong with the orangebox one ? Any video or pics ?
since the orangebox update the jeep uses a bastardized version of the EP2 charger properties/script
this includes but not limited to; strange inability to flip over, all-around slower speed and accel, dramatic change of the "sprint" boost behavior, hulkier/slower handling, impossibility to lose control in a curve, backward drive boosting exploit, and probably even more technical car physics that I don't even understand.
in simpler terms, the old jeep was a faster monster that was extremely easy to flip over and you could easily lose control and fall off cliffs with a badly-timed boost. That in my book was alot funnier, challenging and there was arguably a skill ceiling to be mastered in there. The new jeep feels like baby-mode and it might have been changed for the console folk.
I suppose it might be possible to find the old script file from a retail DVD or something.
snip I got beaten to explaining what's wrong with the jeep and he did it better anyway so whatevs
The biggest problem is that you can't outrun the train anymore, it always hits you if you don't back up.

I know you said that, but if you turn around and reverse boost you can beat it
Unless that's what you meant by backing up instead of waiting for the train to pass

Like every other post in the thread has said, HOLD DOWN shift.

Or you could install Source SDK Base 2006, locate the VPKs it installs, and rip it from there.
For reference, depot_212_dir.vpk is the one with scripts.
Why don't we add the "2 shots in quick succession" feature for the SPAS-12 from Black Mesa?
The ammo tube is not supposed to be the second barrel, Valve.
It's called a gameplay feature. I'm a little sick of gun nuts instantly assuming developers are dumbasses who deliberately mislead people instead of accepting that MP7's with grenade launchers and SPAS-12's with 2 barrels work better for game balance when the arsenal is basic and every gun needs to be distinct by more than just recoil patterns and reload times.

I'm all for a world in a game where everything works the way they're supposed, but for a fun game I, too, understand that it can't happen. A fun game with a world where everything works the way it seems like it should would be pretty terrible, to be honest. It's one of those things that any games with action will most probably never ever have, but it's one thing that, for now, more people need to understand.

why don't we just modelhack the spas-12 to have two barrels? :V:
why don't we just modelhack the spas-12 to have two barrels? :V:
Probs 'cause the model itself is getting remade (and also it doesn't really matter very much)

If it helps at all, I have an old retail Half-Life 2 box with a couple of installation disks. I tried installing it before, but I don't think the key works. It comes packaged with Counter-Strike Source. (Sorry for the shitty phone pictures.)

But it would amount to the same thing gameplay wise anyway, and it's only a minor change.
Also, if the SPAS-12 you guys are gonna model is going to have 2 barrels instead of 1 ammo tube, then where will the ammo be loaded? Up Gordon's ass?

oh
I shouldn't of spoken so soon.
Remember, the Combine took over the world. We have no idea what modifications they did with their guns :v:
People are forgetting the whole aka 47 thing. None of these guns are real guns. They're BASED on real guns, but that's it. You cannot complain that they are inaccurate to their real life counterpart, as they HAVE no real life counterpart.
Suspension of disbelief comes into play. I for one don't care if the weapons in the Half-Life series aren't true-to-life accurate - they're hardly simulators. Even though Half-life 2's slowed down in comparison to the first game, it's still more like an old-school arena shooter than a realistic interpretation. If I can shoot baddies and shooting the baddies is fun, I'm happy with that.

Could you quit pulling ideas out of your ass please?
Just popped in my 2007 (files dated August 2006) HL2 disc and found a tool online to extract things out of the sid files. If you need anything I'd be happy to extract and upload it.

Hey I've got that same box, but with Gman. Man that reminds me of how I had to wait a whole year until being able to install it because we had no internet. Definitely was worth it though
On the subject of the jeep, something I'd really like to see is non-digital steering. Trying to use A and D to get that bastard vehicle to manoeuvre properly has always been a pain in the ass.
I don't know how you'd implement this, as the only real analogue input is the mouse. I might have suggested using mouse1 to keep the crosshairs stationary relative to the environment (rather than the jeep), and steer using aim, but given the cannon this obviously won't work.
It's a shame keyboard keys aren't pressure sensitive.
Unless maybe the player could use crouch for more precise steering.

That sounds like a horrid idea.

Not another Borderlands-style driving control please. I prefer having looking be independent from steering.
After just playing Borderlands, for the love of fuck no
That control scheme is perfect for consoles, but it's absolutely terrible on kb/m

I'd get a reaction video ban for posting it, but imagine I left that The Office video of Steve Carell yelling "NO" here.
In my opinion, it worked pretty well for Halo PC. But on the Source engine with how it handles sharp turns, that's a big no-no.

How would you fire the Tau Cannon if you're driving with the mouse? You would either A) be forced to stop and aim at a target or B) wildly crash into your target and most likely plunge off a cliffside.

Halo worked very well because the vehicles were always in third-person mode, not first-person. Also, you usually had control over the vehicle's weaponry or relied on the surprisingly accurate AI to take down enemies.

It can already be done in default HL2, it's also terrible.
