I'm so sick of all the suggestions on fixing things that aren't broken. Oh let's change the ammo on this gun, and make this gun have hitscan, and let's change this enemy's attack! Or maybe just replace that enemy all together. The point of this mod is to fix things that NEED fixing. A graphical glitch? Yeah, that should be fixed. Low poly/res visuals? A bugged scripted event? Of course, fix that. But the gameplay? Still as solid today as it was in 2004. Hell, if anything, the gameplay is the one part of HL2 that's held up best over time, and can easily go up against any FPS today.
Including the gunplay and the Combine AI?
Yes.
Yes.
I envy you if the gunplay and the AI doesn't bother you. It's what keeps me away from replaying the game
Graphical enhancement is our main priority right now. Technical shit can be done later.
I envy you if the gunplay and the AI doesn't bother you. It's what keeps me away from replaying the game
What is there about it to bother me? The gun's serve their purpose well, have good power to them without being OP. And the AI serves it's purpose pretty well too. No, they're not incredibly detailed, but they don't have to be.
I just wanna know when was the last time someone actually changed shit or did something with the mod instead of quibbling about details.
Probably yesterday. It shouldn't need to be said that progress in the thread =/= actual progress. [editline]8th July 2014[/editline]
I envy you if the gunplay and the AI doesn't bother you. It's what keeps me away from replaying the game
Sucks for you then, huh?
But what can be done with the snipers that changes them into a considerable threat?
But what can be done with the snipers that changes them into a considerable threat?
A few ideas: A more transparent laser Faster firing rate More accurate (not in a 'lands every shot' way, but like, if he DOES miss you, it was by a few inches) In a few areas, multiple snipers, so there's less safe ground.
A few ideas: A more transparent laser Faster firing rate More accurate (not in a 'lands every shot' way, but like, if he DOES miss you, it was by a few inches) In a few areas, multiple snipers, so there's less safe ground.
About the accuracy, you can't really increase it for them since it's always pinpoint relative to the laser. Tho that can be fixed with faster bullet speed, so when he misses, it will definitely be a few inches.
Faster firing rate In a few areas, multiple snipers, so there's less safe ground.
These two would be fucking awful. Snipers aren't supposed to be infuriating.
How about we drop the subject of snipers, okay?
I just wanna know when was the last time someone actually changed shit or did something with the mod instead of quibbling about details. Fuck, shouldn't we keep this to a visual mod just to stop all of the fighting? Think about all the stuff that's going on already. Dynamic lighting from the Alien Swarm engine. HD retextures and remodels of most everything. HL2 isn't a perfect game, but it stands up well enough on it's own to not really merit any extensive change.
The last time I saw, GlitchVid had made some pretty neat flowmaps for water sections and Stiffy was practicing his trees.
Make the snipers bullets hitscan, so that he actually becomes a considerable threat, rather than you zigzagging to him and he hopelessly trying to predict your movement with the slow ass bullets. Problems solved.
The levels are lain out specifically for the sake of having to trick him. [editline]8th July 2014[/editline]
But what can be done with the snipers that changes them into a considerable threat?
In HL2 you see regular soldiers firing from much further and trying to hit you with an smg1 or ar2, so why not have it so when you get within a certain radius, the sniper switches to one of the hitscan weapons like the smg1? Wouldn't make them a "considerable threat", but at least they'd be able to hurt you.
How about we drop the subject of snipers, okay?
What has been started, must be finished. So, no.
What has been started, must be finished.
You must be new here
Most of the changes you're coming up with are all just... not what needs to be done. For now, since most people don't have anything against it, I don't see why you can't drop it. There's clearly nothing more to be said about the subject, you just keep circling back to the same ideas. As I've said multiple times before, what bothers me here are not the bad ideas, but when some of you just will not drop them, even after it's clear it's not a good idea and you shouldn't bother. If you come up with more later on, great! Post them, do whatever. But when the discussion turns into a circlejerk of people going on about the same ideas, telling they're great and the opposition telling you why it's awful, constantly using the same examples you really just need to drop the idea.

[sp]seriously tho good work on the mod so far and thanks for informing people[/sp]
I actually think that's a pretty funny idea. Maybe just one somewhere, with a bit of a yellow splatter where his head was, to show his head was taken off. Then we'll know Eli took it. Hue hue hue. It seems we have mixed opinions. If it's about implied location, then just hide it somewhere on the way to Black Mesa East, on the Route Kanal levels. It really isn't that big of an issue if it's bad enough you can't just shove a ragdoll somewhere.
Lets add random scientists from hl1 into black mesa east. :downs:
Lets add random scientists from hl1 into black mesa east. :downs:
Aye, and a Gargantua in the train station. The added challenge of having to fight a boss character without weapons or even armor is the true Half-Life 2 experience.
Lets add random scientists from hl1 into black mesa east. :downs:
Maybe a vague reference to Dr.Rosenberg from blue shift in the form of a black mesa ID pin card? :v:
The only thing that 'needs' to be changed about HL2's gameplay is to make the shooting more satisfying. Odds are you'd be able to do that with better sounds, effects and animations. Nothing serious needs to be changed. This thread would be going a lot better if everyone kept that in mind.
Let's add a blatantly obvious HECU reference to all the rebels by giving them HECU helmets :downs:

My headcanon is that the Cremators were recalled at some point due to being too impractical, or somehow gained full sentience and turned against Civil Protection and other Combine units; either way, all the units were searched for/hunted down as a result. Their head's and Immolator's were to be dismantled later on in the Citadel to prevent them from ever becoming a threat again, while their bodies were dumped into the nearest canal, left to rot as they served no further purpose other than be just a past memory of a failed experiment. Now, Civil Protection officers just find the nearest gas can in a 76 foot radius to perform their 'interrogations'.
Let's replace all the enemies with dopefish and all the guns with different sized baguettes. That way, everyone's happy.
Let's make shitposting optional.
Let's replace all the enemies with dopefish and all the guns with different sized baguettes. That way, everyone's happy.
And lets also add AR3 DLC
Let's replace all the enemies with dopefish and all the guns with different sized baguettes. That way, everyone's happy.
Every model is changed to be cheaple and every texture is his face texture.
And lets also add AR3 DLC
Sorry, it was removed in favor of the Fists DLC.
