Not sure if it's been discussed before or not, but something I'd like to see is a remake of the test chamber in the opening sequence, seeing as they just ripped it straight from HL1.
Well it isn't a straight rip, I remember it being more detailed then the HL1 version.

Yes, noclip to that section of the map and look around, it's slightly improved.

I'd be willing to bet that they simply used the 'improved' version from Half-Life: Source. It's already on the same engine and they already have the textures converted for Source, so it would be easier than rebuilding the Test Chamber for a second time.

except the entire anti-mass spectrometer is different
plus all of the half-life source maps (for the most part) are just the original half-life maps with 3d skyboxes

Nope, the HL1:S version is a straight port of the HL1 version
anti-mash spectrometer
oohhhh so the aliens attacked earth because they thought the humans were messing with the xenian moonshine operation
oohhhh so the aliens attacked earth because they thought the humans were messing with the xenian moonshine operation
No dude, black mesa just hates them potaters
My first thought was actually that an anti-mash spectrometer would be directly targetted at the aliens because when you gib them they sort of look like they turn into little chunks of clumpy mashed potatoes. :v:
When I left this page, it was about revamping the testing room in HL1.
When I refreshed, it was about the insides of aliens looking like mashed potatoes.

Is it me or does the camera tilt during strafing (like in early versions of HL1)?
What are the devs up to these days? What's being worked on currently?

Multiplayer (coop? I've yet to try it) is enabled on the menu now. We've also started adding basic hud elements, items, and npcs to the steam build. Oh and of course bug fixes.

So official confirmation that the Steam build launches
we've got progress, people
[sp]every time the Steam build is mentioned it's always "trying to get it to work" so I'm not being sarcastic here[/sp]
I will not stop until I have access to the Steam build. I am important. I am a necessity.
Have you guys yet considered giving the sourceruns team access to the mod for beta testing? Here is their youtube page, for reference.
I realize I've mentioned speedrunners before in this thread, but these folks are tried and true experts at destroying this engine - just go watch their latest portal video.
Something to consider!

Speedrunners break games, not make them.
Speedrunners break games, not make them.
yes but because speedrunners break games so effectively you can use them as super efficient QA testing.
Why would they do that? That just gets them a worse time.

Finding bugs so they can be patched isn't a priority for the team?
Okay...
Why would they do that? That just gets them a worse time.
Not necessarily the point.
But you know what - it's not my decision either. You folks go ahead with your work! Again, it's just something that I believe is worth considering.
what bugs would they have if they are just making mostly cosmetic changes
they aren't making a new game

So you wouldn't call BM:S a nearly new Game?
maybe that is an odd comparison, but they come pretty close to making a new game,
some core features might stay, but they overhaul pretty much everything, which visual is apart of.

Aw, I'm just playing guys. I was actually joking in the first place, but I was given the key by someone and thought it was funny.
Seeing as I have access and all that I might as well fool around and see what I can add. I think I could do soundscapes and stuff in higher quality. I enjoy messing around with sounds, and I always thought it would be cool to have very minuscule sound details to add into very specific places to draw away from the looping monotony of soundscapes. For instance, the sounds of bugs playing in a bushy area that you could walk past and hear with position. I wonder if doing too much of that could cause problems in the engine, though.
The sound system in source is sketchy, or the way people access it in the code.
i've got a free repository of gun sounds here (that i backed on kickstarter)

i'm actually kind of disappointed by the quality but maybe strelok will be able to use one for something.

Usually what speedrunners do are bugs and glitches that are really absurd and weird that it's hard to encounter it in normal play so there's not much point.
Usually what speedrunners do are bugs and glitches that are really absurd and weird that it's hard to encounter it in normal play so there's not much point.
Usually, sure. But there are plenty of things a normal player'll do. Say, getting out of the airboat to shoot the explosive barrel to open the gate instead of going through the actual level as designed.
I can see how Valve neglected to fix that. A first-time player would never know that the barrel was needed to open the gate.
I can see how Valve neglected to fix that. A first-time player would never know that the barrel was needed to open the gate.
Doesn't change the fact that if you're adding to and remaking parts of maps, new bugs might occur.
