Yeah, I guess it's just me starving for a new adventure in the HL2 universe :c
I can understand that. I just want a scene where I get to jump onto the flatbed car of a speeding razor train, if only 'cause that's cool as fuck. Won't fit anywhere in HL2 though, so it's not worth suggesting here.
But then that completely defeated the purpose of the mod. [editline]18th May 2013[/editline] I think this is how remakes end up being so bad :v: "Hey, lets increase the production quality, and while we're at it lets add some details here, maybe an extra scene, some changes to the plot (screw it, rewrite the plot!), add in some hollywood magic, and done!"
Try to keep it in perspective?
Well, yeah. They're large, solid and imposing looking. A bike is a bike.
sure.

I'd be willing to believe something like that will happen in the next game because you're right, that is cool as fuck.
You do that on the first level of the canals :v:
It's not a razor train though It's not the same!
You do that on the first level of the canals :v:
I meant actually jump on a flatbed car of a speeding razor train and ride it.
While the background zooms by retardedly fast. Like, faster than the last level of Gears of War. ...I don't think source could do that.
Are the riot shields being used in the mod, because that is a great idea
Riot Shields in C17 would make good Gravity Gun play. I think they said before that they won't.
Ok, so I got bored doing environment textures and decided to doodle a bit more on my SMG1 skin. [t]http://i.imgur.com/ZEPkUTR.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/5TJ58EY.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/3ZK8bFM.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/krYVsBO.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/BbUVT5V.jpg[/t] still heavy WIP
Are the riot shields being used in the mod, because that is a great idea
Riot shields, tactical knives, killstreaks and perks are next on the list of things to add.
Plus rails on all of the weapons. Gotta stay tactic00l.
While the background zooms by retardedly fast. Like, faster than the last level of Gears of War. ...I don't think source could do that.
I think it's very feasible. Source isn't that shit of an engine as most people make it out to be.
But with razer trains.
our Benefactors in PC gaming
You know what would be cool? After beating the game be able to see gallery of every photo made by Scanners.
I think it's very feasible. Source isn't that shit of an engine as most people make it out to be.
It can be done
It can be done
those maps arent really moving though, its just the trick of making the skybox scroll and having the train or whatever youre on not move and give some force on the ground below it so it pushes the player back
those maps arent really moving though, its just the trick of making the skybox scroll and having the train or whatever youre on not move and give some force on the ground below it so it pushes the player back
But it's practically the same, isn't it?
But it's practically the same, isn't it?
somewhat but in a singleplayer game riding a train thats going in a constant straight line isnt that fun
somewhat but in a singleplayer game riding a train thats going in a constant straight line isnt that fun
Yeah, I prefer my trains to drift [t]http://i1.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/000/727/DenshaDeD_ch01p16-17.png[/t]
somewhat but in a singleplayer game riding a train thats going in a constant straight line isnt that fun
The action takes place on the train. The background shouldn't draw too much attention anyway. Again, see the final level of the first Gears of War. I've played on that convoy map before. It's pretty cool except the background is made of completely flat brushes and the ground doesn't scroll at the same rate as the rock walls :v:
those maps arent really moving though, its just the trick of making the skybox scroll and having the train or whatever youre on not move and give some force on the ground below it so it pushes the player back
Guess what normal maps aren't real detail in geometry. I guess they should never be used then. Game physics simulation isn't real either. Fuck, not even videogames are real. If you're not gonna let an illusion fly, what's the fucking point of the whole god damn medium?
But it's practically the same, isn't it?
Yes, from a technology perspective it's a lot easier to just move the the world around the stage rather than the other way around.
It can be done
That's just a custom multiplayer map, so it's free to look terrible. The outside terrain is flat and bare, and the walls are just the same few meters repeated endlessly. It'd be appalling for a singleplayer map, where the player has time to look at the scenery. Additionally, you can't have any entities on the moving part. NPCs legs will bounce around when they get pushed, particle effects will move away from the object that makes them, physics object will slide all over the place and it'd just be generally terrible. I remember I played a mod that used this exact effect, and the trick was immediately obvious because of the tiny skybox and everything that wasn't on the train was spazzing out.

Whether or not they'd actually want to do anything like this in Half Life is another question.
Problem is, to create a large enough nonrepeating background, streaming would be required. Which Source does not support. And will probably never because AFAIK integrating it would likely be about as difficult as creating a new engine from scratch.
And will probably never because AFAIK integrating it would likely be about as difficult as creating a new engine from scratch.
no it wouldn't
Streaming? Like having a video background?
map streaming
