Barrel's too long.
:)
The reason the barrel is made longer is because of the angle at which the view model is seen (and at fov 56, too).
Most of the weapons are skewed horizontally that way

Well, screenshots aren't particularly useful for showing animations off :v:
What's the difference?
when you guys go into the maps and change stuff do you just decompile/recompile them or are you making improved replicas or something?

I'm sure someone here does.

Part of me is going all :tinfoil: :tinfoil: and thinking this is the model they're using in the next Half-Life game :tinfoil:
So what do you guys think of this??

The emissive effect on the barrel rods blend and flow and pulsate, its a subtle effect but you can only really appreciate it in person.

I like it but that brownish part in the middle looks off to me

Looks really good! though you might wanna adjust the specular of the cylinder shapes on the sides and the complex shape between them so that they match more, and perhaps get the specular down a bit to. Though the rest is really good, i still have the Half-Life feeling with the gun so nice job guys, bravo.
Now, about this mod, will any unused content be cleaned out to decrease file sizes?

Of course it would there is no point in making people download unused content.

Really impressive work! The reflection map really ties it all together.
As people said, the middle needs to look less plasticy, you could also grime it up some more in the metal.
Also you really need to work on the duct tape, looks really off.
Did you need a crowbar too?

I could try to get it into Z-Brush for you and sculpt some dents in it and bake the thing afterwards. Kinda like the faked HL3 screenshot.

Can I ask what your motivation was for removing some sections of the gravity gun? I'm talking primarily of the section towards the end of the barrel.

Also the duck tape needs texturing so that it looks as if its been taped on the gravity gun.

I apologize if you're already considering this.

No problem mate, I didnt make the model I just texture it for them, I might re-do the ducttape as far as the missing end piece, its just how it is.
I didnt make the model I just texture it for them
Ah, I keep forgetting that modeling and texturing duties are split up. I realize you've just textured the world model duct tape in a way that is consistent with the world model in the original half-life 2 (which isnt consistent across the view model). It's a small detail.
Despite the duct tape, I am digging the textured model.

bad, if you guys are gonna make decisions like that I don't think this is the mod for me. seems like a bit of modelling laziness.
[editline]24th April 2013[/editline]
Not sure how but the orange needs to be improved, I have no idea what the original texture is meant to be, but I dislike that every HD grav gun texture I've seen just makes it a plain orange.
Looks too new. Maybe a bit of dirt.
No problem mate, I didnt make the model I just texture it for them, I might re-do the ducttape as far as the missing end piece, its just how it is.
The end piece is supposed to be like it is in Snood's model, it was just like that in HL2 to refrain from using to much polygons on the world model. Its different on the view model.
I always thought that was just there on the world model so they wouldn't have to model the insides.
Anyways, Snoodles said he modeled it partially after this, which has an open end:

I personally think it looks better open like that, but that's just me.

Nonsense, please do some research before you post your stuff here. In fact, the original gravity gun was done like this but they closed it off to preserve polygons. There is no laziness in the model at all, and now you're just basically throwing insults at the modellers.
bad, if you guys are gonna make decisions like that I don't think this is the mod for me. seems like a bit of modelling laziness.
That's just insulting, come on man, try and put a bit of constructive criticism and your own ideas.
Don't just call them lazy and say you don't like their mod because of a model.
of an area of the model mind you, you'll see maybe for a total of a few minutes, max?
This has probably been asked before but I'm too damn lazy to go look, but will this continue into episodes 1 and 2?
This has probably been asked before but I'm too damn lazy to go look, but will this continue into episodes 1 and 2?
Hopefully. Though episodes 1 and 2 will probably be released as separate mods, or addons for this one.

Technically that ring and that hole is still there, it's just that due to the way the world model is modeled/textured that area on my model looks a lot sparser. Also I'd much rather use that other picture as a primary reference than a blobby textured, crappily topologised world model.
of an area of the model mind you, you'll see maybe for a total of a few minutes, max?
See I had a feeling you'd say that. But if they're missing out obvious details like that, who knows what else they're skipping over.
[editline]24th April 2013[/editline]
I dunno, some of this mod looks great but some of it looks a bit rushed or not researched carefully enough. Sorry if I came across as overly rude.
See I had a feeling you'd say that. But if they're missing out obvious details like that, who knows what else they're skipping over.
but they weren't even skipping over anything with the new design, it's just that the gravity gun's model was so low-poly that updating it makes it look radically different

literally inches above you they explained that they thought it was just a way to save on polygons, that's why they didn't make it totally flat (which looks bad anyway). you're assuming because they took (read: ONE person took) an artistic liberty with a model you'll see for 10 seconds that they would do the same for everything else?

I don't actually have my hands on this seeing as it was given to Volpin Props for the replica I made reference to. I am also unable to find any contacts of it's creator (though I know who he is)
edit:
Also; What does the scratched out portion of the dial actually say? I know the module itself was constructed from scrap and it most likely wasn't needed but still. It's been bothering me.
