The slingshot remembered me that chapter on Black Ops. It would be cool, but again, it would force again rethink the maps and their gameplay.

I thought we already were? Aside from that, I didn't mean any of it had to be useable, but it'd be neat to come across some improvised weapons or launchers laying abandoned.
[editline]23rd May 2013[/editline]
Speaking of renovating the maps, what's the status on the coast? Have we decided anything yet, because I think I know what to do with the crane (so it makes sense), with minimal changes.
Relevent to rebels?
only relevant thing i feel are the missiles and maybe the Sham 1, which i guess i could see being used at some point in the background
I thought the point of this mod was to not edit the maps at all, just upgrade the textures and not tweak gameplay but add visual stuff like shell casings and 1024x1024 textures...

2048^2.
And maybe, if we get time and it looks good enough, we'll add stuff, but don't plan on there being a bunch of new features.

Some of this stuff is getting a little too ambitious, I feel. A few cool scenes might be nice, but it shouldn't upheave significant portions of the game.
I figure we were kind of trying to do what Fakefactory should have done. Isn't that why we're here? Because the only other major overhaul did it wrong :v:
We're not the industry.
Seriously, none of us are getting paid for this work, and I'm sure a good amount of the contributors have spent money (in one way or another) on the project.
We're talking about whether or not cut and dry decals of spent bullet casings look good or not. You said Source couldn't make it look good, and I said it looks serviceable despite a lack of POM or tessellation and that even pros do it without said features. Now you seem to be implying that it's a huge undertaking???

No, I said we're not the industry, because... we're not.
We're not pros either, we're a bunch of guys hoping to break into the modding scene and get their work out there.

I think you've grossly misunderstood his original point
which was basically 'if it's good enough for AAA games, it's good enough for a video game mod, don't try to one-up an industry that has much much more people and money than you'
Yeah, I mean we're talking about a development shortcut here, something that expressly does not cost money or excessive man power.
It's a decal.
Hell, it could even be a blobby detail object with something like this on it

with alpha'd edges.
Wow. I was looking for images for that point and found a bunch of awesome bullet accessories. Looks pretty cool for miscellaneous resistance stuff.

Alright, well anyway.
Found some used in L4D, they look ok I guess.

I could look into eventually making decals, but I think using a model (static ones place in hammer) would look better.
If it's gotta be models, I'd do an alpha shadow on the floor plane as well. Like a model/ decal hybrid. Because you know... source :x
If it were me I'd make one model of randomly dispersed casings, all really low poly, with about 5-10 casings in the one model. Then just place it a few times in an area each time rotating it differently. Also the decal shadow is a good idea.

That could work easily. LODs and fading would make it dirt cheap to render.

That's awesome
I wonder if, in the future, there will ever be a weapon with such symbolism as the Sten was to WWII resistance as Kalashnikov variants are in today's conflicts. It'll probably be the Kalashnikov I think.

If you mean in the HL2verse, probably the SMG1. Although I'm sure there's metalworkers also pumping out Sten-like guns chambered in 9mm or 4.6mm, maybe even a place that does make AK-47 remakes. It's actually not as far fetched an idea as it sounds.
(Note: I am not saying include this, just talking lore).

I never understood the hate with fakefactory. He only changed things aesthetically. You can turn off the gameplay changes too.

I could see Odessa Cubbage using a Sten.
furthering adding to the stereotype

because a lot of his optional character changes are questionable at best
also apparently he stole a lot of things
lets not forget the bridge.

What bridge?

Do you not have eyes? Do you want everyone in the thread to explain this to you? Do you know how many times we have to explain this shit to people on a weekly god damn basis? Do you know how fucking tired everyone is of pointing out this mod's bullshit? We don't have time for that, and the thread doesn't have room for it. For fuck's sake, end this shit right now. No one wants to talk about Makehuman: the stolen asset saga AKA Daz Studio The Game.

The coast needs major looking at, there's gotta be a better way for all the rock formations, they simply don't look good anymore, earth never forms with vertices. As are clearly visible today and don't look good.

I know FF is clearly retarded but boy
can you really be this arrogant and stupid?
calm the fuck down and just have a link ready.

There was a coast guy but there hasn't been any updates on that lately.

There still is, but mapping work won't be done until we get all the textures done. I'm currently the only one working on the bulk of them, though Glitchvid does do the occasional texture, if anyone wants to help out this'd go a lot quicker.
