Reduced the specular so hopefully the dirt/rust/damage is more visible.
Alright, here I darkened the orange of the glow effect and I made the tape more tape like. Better?
When people said darken the orange parts, they didn't just mean make it a deeper orange, they meant add those heavy black striations and grime you see in the original version

The original color of orange you had was fine.
Also, remember to post some more viewmodel perspective shots, since that's how you're going to be seeing it 90% of the time
Not bad, but I like the Gravity Gun more when it was yellow. I always imagined it made use of Xenian Crystals somehow (which are yellow). That could also be why it 'soaks up' the Dark Energy from the Weapon Confiscators, draining them and causing them to break. :v:
[editline]25th April 2013[/editline]
Actually Vman's shot is good too, it's not too orange or anything, it's got a nice mix to it.
I have a whole bunch of suggestions/corrections/whatever.
All right, I'm OK with seperate ragdoll versions for the cars. However, I'm keeping my word on Tristan Reidford's idea. (TF2 also does that with hats)
Plus, looking at the Rollermines, they emit an error in the Developer Console about lacking an "ACT_DIESIMPLE" activity (might as well point that to the idle, since it's a physics prop)
I even noticed on HL2BANANA that Romka made a more viewmodel-matching RPG worldmodel, what'll he say about this Enhancement Mod?
Horrible paint over, but this is how it should look texture-wise.

Actually Romka was already in here before, he posted in EMT-V2 when someone said we should try to get permission to use his high quality Combine Soldier models.

What's really bugging me about this is how the body isn't as wide at the base and slopes down faster.

It would have been great if people posted this criticism whilst I was actually making the fucking thing first time round. :v:
I think what I'm trying to say is to stop being too anal about stuff like this. Ultimately the models are going to be the same but different due to personal design changes. When I made the thing I didn't set out to make a perfect imitation, because that to me isn't developing on something, it's copying something that's already been made. And you don't progress that way at all, it limits you.

The problem is it really sticks out, the entire model is pretty much a perfect remake of the old one, except for that one little detail, which really throws it off for a lot of people

You never posted any first person views until now, which is the only place where it's noticeable. Also where you're going to be looking at it for most of the game

Incorrect, I posted plenty of views from behind the model during development and a first person shot.

Are you guys keeping the texture the same style it is now?
I think it looks way too new looking and very dark, the front looks good but the back end is really off. The original gravity gun looks like it was made with what ever materials they could find, just like Dog. This one looks like it was just made using factory made parts and the had all the edges scraped off.
What I'm trying to say is that given the environment of the game there should almost me no shine left on it, it should have rust/dirt/grease/visible welds to make it look like it was made out of scrap.

Like if you can defend things and say why they're better than the original, yay, go for it. But if it's just because you felt like it and it's objectively worse, then that's no good.
I for one like the current Garvity Gun.
I can live with the odd shape if the texture is redone like radu_iceman suggested.
[editline]dix[/editline]
I wonder what the gun's core would look like if it used the Xen crystal shader, might be something to try.

Guys please, if you post criticism make it constructive and usefull. It may sound childish but also say whats good about it, were making this mod in our free time.
And when people start to give criticsm without pointing out the good things, it just gets the motivation down and youll start to think people despise the model.
Zero Hour, it looks great and i love the new tape and the specular, you might just wanna fiddle a bit with the colours.

You're not going to be using any of those generated map beams, right? Where it's like a rope but it just wiggles to try to make itself look like lightning?
Also, looking at the Xen crystal now, does anyone else think it looks a little... Not there? Like, it has no lighting or anything, it's just a simple refract shader, slapped onto a model.
Sorry about nitpicking things you haven't even changed yet, but I'm most hyped to see what you all are going to do with the particles and shaders and such. Imagine a Xen crystal that actually looks like a crystal...

It does matter when people post crits, public feedback is always important in mod development. It's just in this case I think people are hanging over bits of detail that I feel aren't worth the fuss. I could understand if I'd made a dramatic change like the amount of prongs on the gravy gun or made it so it was held differently. But in this case the degree of slope that the back panel has, in my opinion, is a really minor and inconsequential change. I guess that's my defense against that.
... so THAT'S what the orange part is meant to be :0
The Combine voice thingy calls it a "counter-resonant singularity device", which, since it's the only weapon that doesn't levitate away from you in the confiscator, probably means it contains negative mass. Since Xen crystals are analyzed using an Anti-Mass Spectrometer, it's safe to assume that Xen crystals also have negative mass. So it isn't unreasonable to guess that the Gravity Gun contains Xen crystals. Ta-da, go slap on the refraction shaders.

Criticism is kinda worthless when most complain about even the smallest of details wich the common player might just ignore and move on, the mod is supposed to enhance the game, it would be a bit silly if all they would attempt to do is to perfectly represent and recreate everything with 100% precision.
Criticism is always accepted, but only when it actualy leads somewhere. There's also a certain time when giving critics about, well anything wich is posted actualy matters.

That's coming from the thread which spends 5 pages arguing about a single texture :p

I wonder how they managed to miniaturize the tech needed to manipulate a substance with negative mass. Also, because it has negative mass, it would have some pretty interesting changes to how it obeys the laws of physics. Something with negative mass would still fall down, but to keep it from falling you actually need to push down on it, so instead of putting the crystal on top of a table, you would need to push it against on the underside a fairly heavy table. This is reverse motion is already kinda factored into HL2 because you can't run while carrying something with the gravity gun, since the energized crystal would cause it to resist gordon moving.
**End semi-offtopic theoretical physics lesson, shutting up.**

Yeah, you're kinda right. I do have a habit of only pointing out the negatives in things. Trust me though, I wouldn't bother criticizing your mod at all if i didn't feel it had potential. I feel like the gun should be made more accurate to the original in first person. I can live with the front of the gun being slightly off compared to the retail texture. Just might seem odd in HL2DM where you see the business end of the gravity gun quite often. Like, the map changes and lighting and most of the textures in the mod I really like. And the gravity gun isn't bad, I just feel like in an "enhancement" mod it should be flawless.
The barrel is the enhancement.
The original barrel was a jumbled mess of fucked up UVs on a six sided polygon.
This barrel is based directly on the rendition of the gravity gun from an official Valve artist.
The "original," which was little more than a compromise, was the flaw.
