I think they are. What is with people having to add fem model to everything?
What's wrong with a little variety? HL1 had 4 soldier models

Nobody said anything about adding female Combine. Stop jumping to conclusions. :v:
I don't think it's as necessary to have female Combine soldier models as it is for metrocops, since you could justify it as them being all altered to look exactly the same anyway. But I don't think it'd hurt, and it'd add some variety. And again, it'd make them seem more like altered people rather than just alien gasmask mooks.

I don't think the Combine would discriminate based on gender, it doesn't seem like their style.
What is wrong with the current HL2 damage system?
Hud has the red prompts that tell you were the damage came from, HEV suit gives prompts when you health reaches certain increments.
Did anyone notice the following?
This was filled with water in the past and ships docked to the wooden dock and then crane picked up the goods.
[IMG_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/vbKa42P.jpg[/IMG_thumb]
But the 'old map' shows the dock as dry already:

But if the water was at it's usual level, the distant dock you see on the first picture would be completely submerged. Hmm.
I did, but I ignored it because honestly I have no idea how to fix that without someone either redesigning the coast map (not worth it) or changing the entire level (really not worth it). We can't really do anything about it, so I figured it was best to let it slide.

Also I stand by my opinion that if we have female Soldiers, they should have a slightly smaller frame and nothing else. They would still look, talk, and act exactly the same as other Soldiers.

We've talked about this, and they shouldn't be JUST smaller. They should be correctly proportioned but otherwise exactly the same.

I don't recall ever talking about this, but okay. Either we redesign every female model in HL2, or we give them a smaller frame. Female citizens and female soldiers shouldn't have 2 completely different 'art directions' (for lack of a better term).
(that's if there will be female soldiers at all, probably not)

We could just edit the map while enhancing the textures...

They would have to alter that entire area, completely change over half the map. I'm not sure everyone would be supportive of that change.

I'd disagree. It seems...right up their style. You never see gender discrimination in the actual game, but I feel that in the darker, beta storyline, there woulda been tonnes of it. I mean, they're a massive intergalactic species that is managing a species comprised out of half men and half physically weaker, more emotionally unstable versions of men. (i know this sounds exist but im just trying to emphasize how the combine see it)

I think he means that they shouldn't just be scaled down clones of male soldiers. They should have the same slightly different proportions that the female citizens have.

I said smaller frame, not smaller size. The females in HL2 have a smaller frame than the males.

Not so sure about that. Gender discrimination is a pretty human thing, based on cultural perceptions of how men and women should be. The Combine don't have any understanding of that, or perhaps even of gender at all - they're coming from a purely outside and pragmatic perspective. They just see a type of alien that can be re-purposed to a task - they wouldn't take the time to make distinctions between different subsets of the alien if it didn't somehow serve their purposes.
If there's any kind of gender distinctions in the Combine regime it'd most likely come from the human elements, i.e. Breen.

Yeah, I agree. I think we're all arguing for the same thing, just getting mixed up over the wording. :v:

as far as the Combine are concerned, humans are a totally pointless and trivial species on a backwater planet in the middle of nowhere that only became relevant through complete coincidence - we're not a medical curiosity, we're not psychic, we don't even make for very good synths compared to everyone else. they probably wouldn't care enough to distinguish between the sexes if that weren't necessary for the suppression field to function - Advisors might not even fully understand the concept of sex, or really much care to.
Advisors might not even fully understand the concept of sex, or really much care to.
or they once did but have since... grown out of it
Yeah Humans are pretty much 'on trial' for the Combine. During that time, reproduction was suspended. If we succeeded, they'd lift it and let us breed Soldiers for them. If not, they wipe us out, drain what resources they can, and leave.
Fortunately for us, we managed to pull a fast one on 'em, and they won't get either.
or they once did but have since... grown out of it
As far as Marc Laidlaw's BreenGrub fanfiction goes, they can only breed once they've metamorphosed into some other creature and in the process lose their sentient minds. If this were the case, they'd most likely not ever think about sex or gender at all, since it's irrelevant in that stage of their lives.

Maybe we'll get to fight one!

considering how much of the human body gets replaced during the creation of combine, I think gender would be entirely irrelevant by the end of the process.
You barely see Overwatch soldiers outside their suits and they're genderless anyway, there's no need to make a female version. If you ask me the only Combine units that need a female variant are the metrocops, since they're ordinary humans.
You wouldn't even have to mess with the model either (since their suits are obviously made to conceal the user's features so it makes sense that they would all look the same), just their voices, since they only use voice filters as opposed to the transhuman soldiers who actually had their vocal chords replaced with a vocoder.
I think the best solution would be to leave overwatch/elites/nova prospects as male, but make metrocops male and female.
See: Garry's Mod.
This is pretty out of the blue, but when you do shipping containers, is it possible to like, have loose bones (modelling bone, not a literal bone) inside so that when you move it with a crane, you'll hear shit tumbling around and banging off the walls inside it?
I think that would be easier to do with a bunch of loops of different intensity thrashing sounds that turn on and off depending on the crate's velocity. I'm not sure if that's even possible though. Still sounds like the "too much work for too little payoff" thing. I personally would like to hear more consistant buggy sounds. Something where it doesn't seem to cut itself off when it boosts.

Don't shipping containers have secured cargo? It would be weird for them not to.

To be fair, shipping containers aren't meant to be swung around like wrecking balls as we do with them either.

As a professional HL2DM and Obsidian Conflict crane pilot, I really do say you shouldn't be thrashing them about. :v:

But you need to do it in HL2 to lower the nonsensical unmotorized drawbridge!
[sub]Fun Fact: HL2's Shipping Containers are 24 Feet. 24 Foot Containers are not normally used in Shipping, but for Storage.[/sub]
