I wouldn't buy it for at least a few days. Only for the fact that barely anyone can play, and I got my copy early.
lol when the game crashes you get a "ShooterGame has stopped working" message. they didn't even bother to change the name of the Unreal Engine 4 first person shooter demo that the game is based off of.
is it a piece of shit?
is it a piece of shit?
it's an open world crafting survival game in early access
From what I've seen in streams, it doesn't look THAT bad, beside UI of course. There are some interesting mechanics that I like, even though I can't be bothered to play another PvP oriented survival game.

I've seen some released games not bother to change the exe name. Edit: To say this game is unoptimized, would be a massive understatement. Running on low and it looks awful and I get like 25fps with two GTX580's, though SLI doesn't seem to work.

This is really not a rare issue... if you can even call it an issue.
it's an open world crafting survival game in early access
cool. is it shit though? you didn't answer my question. The Long Dark is an early access open world, crafting survival game, and it kicks ass. [editline]3rd June 2015[/editline] good post though, nicely done!

[editline]3rd June 2015[/editline] good post though, nicely done!
I've watched some streams and it seems like a decent start as far as this genre goes. Haven't gotten a chance to play it yet though. It's got a bunch of pretty cool ideas, I'll be interested to see how it develops. [editline]2nd June 2015[/editline] Though yeah the optimization and UI is awful at the moment, but that's to be expected and will no doubt be sorted out. Really you can't expect a game like this to NOT be rough around the edges on day one of early access.
Not really fussed about UI tbh, optimization is an issue though. I was really psyched about this game and was gonna buy it ASAP but I'm holding off for a while. Thanks for replying Interested to hear if the gameplay is addicting and the world is immersive. Also, if it's good fun to play, or just painful and a punishing grind-fest
I don't know how source engine games are made but changing the name of an UE4 game takes literally 30 seconds it just implies laziness
No, it implies they didn't bother to do something pointless.
They just added single player but you spawn with guns and items already. So I guess I won survival.
They werent there, when the dumbass-marketing class learned about timing. They would have waited till the game is ready, so they can hype it, then fuck everyone with the badass pictures.
They wanted to get out ahead of Saurian, The Isle and Mesozoica. Mesozoica's ship is sinking too though, they had a massive drama fest not too long ago and the implication is that it's a scam in the same way Stomping Lands was, avoid them as well. Prehistoric Kingdom I'm still not sure about, they've had a lot of drama over the past few months as well and they may or may not pull through, they do have a habit of copying designs from other games/artists though. The people behind Ark just plain don't know how to make a game, I mean, I haven't tried it but I've heard a good chunk of the performance problems with Ark are because the game was never cooked in Unreal. The co founder as well as many of the current Ark team are also responsible for Primal Carnage, anyone who knows that game would have written Ark off immediately.
When I say that I'm playing the game in N64 mode for about 25fps on a GTX580. I mean it. http://puu.sh/iaq9I.png This is lowest settings and I have the resolution scaler quite low.
I've been playing the game since it's released with a few friends. This is definitely a game to play with friends, and we haven't gotten far but so far it's been really fun. If the devs do continue to work on this and don't scam the community it has a lot of potential, especially after optimization.
My friend with a 980 can run this game pretty good, I have to play on N64 graphics on my 770... The concept seems really cool in my opinion, he said it's pretty immersive with the atmosphere. But.. I can't really get into it with 30 frames and rocks that fill in when I get within 10 ft of them.. Not to mention all the servers are dumping on themselves.
It wouldn't be a proper rust competitor if it didn't also run like ass.
Biggest problem rigth now is that the game looks beautiful on epic (ultra) settings but runs like complete ass.
They should have really at least got the game playable (as in reasonable FPS) and done something about the character creator and UI before releasing it. I know it's early access and things will be changed, but those things give a really bad first impression. There are a lot of bad Steam reviews because of those. What they showed in the trailer looked great but the actual game seems almost nothing like it, i was going to get it at launch but now i'm just going to wait until it's next on sale, assuming the problems are fixed. Lots of things just seem quite poorly done from what i've seen.
it has inspired me to take another swing at our HUD and textures

there was a point in my life when I was afraid the world would run out of scams and shitty games. boy was i naive!
there was a point in my life when I was afraid the world would run out of scams and shitty games.
Calm your tits, this game just got released in an alpha state.
The HUD is probably just a place holder. It was still a bad idea to leave it in though.
there was a point in my life when I was afraid the world would run out of scams and shitty games. boy was i naive!
(Garry, forgive me) Have you ever seen Rust in the first public test (or whatever that was), when it was free and available for everyone on a single server? That was a horrible piece of shit. So, indeed, hold your pants and wait for it to leave EA or at least reach it further state of development.
I played with some friends all day yesterday. Yeah it's ugly and obnoxious and there is SO much in the game that needs tweaking. With all of that said, I'm having a blast, and I'm glad I bought it.
I hate to be the guy defending a game with "But it's early access!" But really, it is early access. Besides the horrid performance and obnoxious placeholder notification text it's a really fun game, everything that was shown in the trailer is in the game with much more to come. A lot of people are being unfairly harsh on this game because of its less than smooth launch, without even having played it or having seen anything other than a shitty screenshot or stream with all the graphics settings cranked down and large colourful text on the screen. That said, performance is fucking atrocious. I can't get above 30fps on any combination of settings with a 980, i5 and 16GB of RAM. Everyone else seems to be reporting the same thing. But the devs have stated that optimization is one of their top priorities going forward. The game has only been out for around a day and has already received a few patches, so hopefully the devs keep up this pace and shape this game into something really special. TL;DR Good game. Shit framerate. Deserves another chance.
I get why the UI is bad, when you make a game you don't instantly go "GUYS LETS MAKE THE BEST FUCKING UI EVER", its probably on their list but near the bottom. The optimization however, theres no excuse for that. This game has a lot of potential, and theres already so much content but I still would have prefered if the game can run good before I get to super end game content because I doubt anyone got there so far.
Does FP really give any game a chance?
